Thanks for the inspiration I am a pacific Islander and unfortunately the elderly men who carry these customs are nearly all gone I have retained our tribal designs you have given me a way to keep a dying custom alive to pass on to my children. Great videos

I like that you use a knife for so much of your carving. I grew up in Kenya, and remember watching traditional woodcarvers using just home-made knives (flattened and sharpened 6" nails) to carve their amazing tribal masks.
As you say, you can go a long way with a knife and a V tool. As a pro cabinet maker, I want to develop my carving skills so I can incorporate some carved details into my work - some grotesque faces on the stiles of formal cabinets is my ambition!
Love your clips and your work. Great stuff!

Hey I thought you weren't supposed to move wood to different regions :p
I recall Shawn saying that he used to carve ducks.. I think you guys should have a carving competition and let the subscribers choose a winner
To keep it fair you should meet in the middle, Doug carves a lot of characters and Shawn has experience with ducks.
You must carve a duck man

great to see this. Bass wood is expensive in the UK - for a 74 year old pensioner it is. Plus it mainly only comes in 1 or 2 inch square. My Staffordshire Bull Terrier insists on bring a trophy back from her walk and they pile up in the yard. Not a stick, more a small log. About 2 and a bit inches in diameter. I saw this post and chopped a few into 10 inches long. Free wood. Love your posts Doug. Keep at it. Ron UK.
