Hand carving a Female Wood Spirit

I was not intending to record this video for TH-cam so this video is filmed in vertical. It would probably be best to view it on a phone or tablet. Anyway, here's a look at the carving process of this female wood spirit. This was intended as a practice piece, but I am really happy with the overall result. Thanks for watching!

WoW! Great carving! Women are harder to carve probably because they can`t hide under a beard but you make it look effortless! Looks like you use an exacto knife around the eyes!

Thank you! Yes the exacto knife is super helpful. I can get my knives really sharp, but never razor blade sharp lol

Wow!!! You're amazing!!! I'm so happy to see a woman's face emerge from this simple block of wood. Being fascinated with the carvings made from a pine notch/branch joint I googled images and found only male faces. Dozens and dozens of them. I'm hoping to include one on the backside of a forest fairy tree house I'm creating out of a hollowed out log. Just keeping an eye out, I need it to be more on the crude side than as highly articulate as yours. You do such beautiful work!! (I tried my hand at this once when I was 16 then again a few months ago, at age 74. It didn't go well.) She's so beautiful!! Do you do commissions?

Turned out nice. A lot of people have trouble depicting the female face because they try to make it perfect or attractive. Try carving old women, and giving them the same amount of "years" or "character" your old man statues have.
