  • Candling our turkey eggs on Day 7! Incubating turkey eggs takes 28 days and we are trying to be patient! It is Day 7 and so far we are seeing at least 10 with veins! Fingers Crossed! How man do you see!?

      I saw approximately 10. Sometimes I wasn’t sure, it was hard too see.

    Good idea not to leave in any that you are sure aren't viable. In elementary school my sister's class incubated turkey eggs and I don't know the details, but a rotten turkey egg exploded all over her. She got sent home from school and my mom ended up throwing the dress away. Hadn't thought of that in decades, until I was watching this.

    Elysia next time you candle the eggs try candling on the opposite end of the egg by putting the light under the egg. We could see better when candling from the underside and discovered we had 8 more than what we thought!!!!!

      I didn’t want to tip the eggs and online it said to do from the fat side of the egg?

    I'm glad you have some survivors. What is the rate of survival of eggs that don't have shipping problems?

    They sent them that dirty? They could have been rinsed in warm water.
    We are incubating eggs too, over 80. Mine were really dirty and I rinsed them. It seems to be ok so far. Turkeys will be so exciting. What an experience for your boys

    A dozen turkeys is still good odds (if those 2 are viable too). What a good start for your plans! Hopefully you'll get mostly hens to get even more turkeys! I think it's so cool that you'll have ducks, chickens and turkeys. Are there any other birds that you want to raise on your homestead? 🐔🦆🦃

    If they are darker it's good. If it shines through its a no. The darker ones will getting darker what means they grow.

  • @lisaconnelly7731
    @lisaconnelly7731 ปีที่แล้ว

    Some of the eggs may simply be un-fertilized. The transit delay should not have affected the eggs' viability. Many times hens wait a week till they have a good clutch before starting setting.

    Why do I have the feeling that after these are hatched, you'll name them and get attached to them and they will become pets and not food? lol

    There was only 6 eggs that didn't have veins. That's a good ratio for eggs that were shipped. Great job
