I was having the same problem with my chicken eggs! They were fully developed but didn’t absorb the yolk sac and didn’t even try to hatch. I talked to some people and one guy said that it sounded like a temperature problem. Low temp will slow development and they die right before. I got an old-fashioned thermometer (not digital - they said digital are often incorrect) and sure enough it said my incubator was only around 96 degrees Fahrenheit, despite my incubator saying it was at 99.5. I turned the temp up a few degrees and am currently hatching some chicken eggs, hoping I found the problem… if you don’t have a second thermometer in there already, you should get one and see what it says.
With parrot babies it's the same. Temp too low they hatched underdeveloped. But aswell if temp is too high, there's the chance they hatch early and they are underdeveloped
@@AM-xf8mu I hatch parrot eggs too, they never hatch under the parents and I don’t know why maybe because I breed them indoors? I tried some high end incubators like Brensea and no success only a cheap Chinese incubator had some success in hatching some it had good ventilation so I came to the conclusion either breed them outside or use incubators with excellent ventilators. I’m still experimenting so if you have any insights please feel free to share.
This is just chicken info, but Look into building your own incubator from a styrofoam cooler, a water heater temperature wafer and a computer fan hooked to a keyless incandescent lightbulb. Then research dry incubation. I’ve found most people keep the humidity cranked WAY too high and the chicks drown or get stuck in the shell. Once I started only adding water when they pip, I get much better hatch rates.
Just a suggestion! Please don't open or take the eggs out of the incubator unless it's necessary. Not all eggs can withstand temperature change. Bear in mind that different eggs have different agility towards incubators and temperature. Nevertheless, seeing that the dead birds were developed around 80%, and theb unexpected death means that there was temperature change in them. Don't forget that you're dealing with exotic birds from very hot places. The same goes with peacock eggs. Love your videos. Happy birthday 🎉

No, if anything not enough variation . Incubators are constant , female emu is not . Goose , peacocks and emu all have problems when incubating at a constant temperature .
Since the dad is either BERt or ErNIE, and it shares birthday with BEcky, that little fella should be named BERNIE :D It's so adorable, sad to see all the other ones not making it but it just makes this little guy (or gal) extra special!

I breed reptiles, and I have learned my lesson of taking eggs out of the incubator due to impatience. For snakes even after fully developed in the last week - it leads to deaths, unabsorbed yolks, and twisted umbilical cords. I would advise perhaps trying to leave them completely alone until they pip. The constant taking them out may be what's killing them if they are developing normally prior to this.
Except you can't leave them alone because you need to watch their progress to know if you need to change the temperature or humidity, also to see if there's anything even developing.
I had the same thought, I breed quail and once in lock down you don't touch the eggs. They will sometimes make you wait up to a week past the hatch date too. I recently hatched out chicks 6 days past the hatch date and all but one was healthy though they had me nervous for quite a while. Maybe something is different with bigger birds, but the chick that did hatch looked sticky which comes from changes in temperature and humidity while hatching resulting in the membrane getting stuck.
I think the reason they opened the egg was because it had stopped moving/making noise, along with the fact emus are known for having trouble hatching due to their very thick eggshells, so it was obvious something was wrong
@@sage3255 Opening the egg if you need to isn't what they're talking about - they're talking about messing with the eggs before that point. Moving them in and out of the incubator changes the temp/humidity and can be harmful. It's best to leave eggs alone up until the very very end.
Always drill a hole when they start peeping just to be safe. Also next time don't move incubators, flip the other ones by hand if u have to until you see them start to hatch/crack out and then move them. They are very sensitive
Stop taking them out to check them everyday and you will have success! I know you are nervous and excited, but the temp change..they just can't take it! Also get a second thermometer just to double check the temperature is reading correctly. You MUST stop taking the eggs out. I promise you, toy will have success when you just trust the process. When you want to check, so something else. Establish a routine to help you avoid bringing them out. Congrats on the new baby emu! I'm so very happy for you that one of them was successful! Here's to the future and more babies!!
@@carolynnr.6409 actually I think he did because he was so nervous before he only took them out to weigh them and as it was closer to hatch day I think he left them alone. He took these out every day.
Make sure to socialize (supervised of course) this baby emu with the other emus early on so it does not end up imprinted on people and unable to breed in the future.

Hello, we are two children 10 and 8 years old and we live in Quito Ecuador. We’ve seen your videos and we love them!. We have also learned a lot from the information you share in your videos. We have tried to incubate in a very homemade way, that is using a cardboard box and a light bulb, but the experiment has not worked. That is why we would also like to benefit from an incubator that you are giving away to achieve this beautiful project of incubating and continuing to learn.
To be honest you need a bit of a more precise incubator for emu I think. You should try and get over to someone who hatches a few emu and pick up a few little tips. I feel they look like the temperature is a little low.
So you just gotta find the key to them absorbing their yolks for your customers and your next batches. We need answers. Maybe humidity needs to change before hatching or something to do with moving them too late in development. I don't know. God bless!🌱🌾
I'd like to put a comment because I was starting to incubate eggs for the first time, and watching lots of videos from lots of different people in the world, and your way to save chicks is the best. And it doesn't mean you can't go further helping them if it is not enough, but it's the best way to start. A big thank you!
Like many other commenters suggest Try leaving your eggs sit in the incubator until absolutly necessary 😅 Dont move then untill they start to hatch out on their own. Temperature is the main issue from the looks of things

As some others have already said you need to not take the eggs out almost every day and to be patient. Even the slightest temperature change can do damage. Also, check to see if the incubator is at the perfect temperature. The fact that so many were basically almost fully developed but just couldn't finish absorbing the yolk sac and cross the finish line says quite a bit about potential issues to solve in the future.

Make sure to bring it to the other emus to start socializing it so there is not a repeat of Bamboo and his species misidentification. Holding it while working with the adults or perhaps, if the weather is favorable enough, letting it walk on the other side of the fence would hopefully be enough. We had geese on the farm, and it took so long for them to have good eggs that would hatch. But when they did hatch, it was so exciting to have baby geese again! I'm so happy for you to have baby emus again!
I'm so sorry for the loss of those little emus, it is hard to witness all of that movement and the peeping and then have something happen to cause them to die. The healthy baby certainly does lighten that loss! S/he is adorable!
I was really looking forward for news about the eggs, sad for a few that didn’t make it but happy you got 1 at least. Maybe avoid so much opening of the incubator and check temperature, but at least there is some progress. 👍🏻

Def too low of temps. The green look on the unabsorbed yolk looks like yolk infection and when that happens, they almost always die. I would do as suggested and use a non-digital thermometer and do a sanitizing clean on your incubator.

Could be from getting cold at times. The interruption of temperature can be one major cause of the yoke not having enough time to absorb into the babies in the eggs. Also looks like some of the organs didn't develop right. Could also be caused by temperature changing to often or to much. One other cause is bad genetics. BUT I don't think its that cause. I do think its the temperature one. I hatch alot of chicken and quail eggs. I also at times hatch Turkey and duck so I do see the difference temperature can make if its not constant or changes to often for the egg.
I recently recently went through the same thing with two different hatches of duck eggs one egg from each made it all the way to last day they were peeping everything seemed fine one of the eggs was backwards wasn't able to absorb the yolk or get out and the same thing happened again but we actually took the other one out but because of being backwards and the Egg it still wasn't able to absorb the yolk and it died it's the saddest thing when you hear it peeping and when it's made it to the last days and I felt so guilty as if I did something wrong but I know I didn't it was a horrible feeling thank you for posting your video it made me realize that these things just happened with raising animals I pray for you and your family in the name of yahuah the creator of the world
Fantastic I’m so pleased to see you finally got one! It’s disheartening to lose them before hatching, particularly just a few days before because they hadn’t absorbed the yolk. But take the positives from it, you’re now getting fertile eggs! Hopefully more baby emus to come😁🤞
Don't open the incubator door or take them out lol. we can see just fine through the glass. that could be why the eggs are not making it. my grandma would hatch baby chicks she be like you can look but don't touch lol.
If your temps, and humidity are correct, then you're too hands on, and messing with incubator, need to trust the process. and let them hatch on their own without constantly reopening the bator, just let them be. I see a lot of homesteading families doing that on TH-cam.

With the eggs having such a long incubation time it makes sense that the babies would still have enough nutrients inside of them from the yolk to not need to eat for a week it would make sure that all off them could get a chance to hatch before the parent has to take the babies elsewhere to find food
Just a little tip to help you hatch emus ( I wouldn’t take them out every day bcs it can cause shock to them and stop them from absorbing yoak and some other things.) GL ON GETTING MORE ❤❤🎉
If it close to hatching aren’t you supposed to lock it down so the humidity is high? Why are you taking it out and putting it back in nonstop? Wouldn’t that cause the membrane to harden and the chick won’t hatch? I know for chick and duckling there a lock down so for emu I expect the same
I think you have opened too many times the incubator and then the humidity will change. Try not to open the incubator especially the last 2 weeks and never when they are hatching ..
It’s been a tough season for emus this year. I normally get 18-32 eggs each season, but only got 6. Of the 6, only 3 made it to hatch. 2 died at hatch and the last one died a couple days after hatching. I’ve never had a hatching problem. Such a bummer! I feel your pain. Glad you got one little emu though.
I’m hoping and praying you get a bunch of new babies. I can’t wait to see little emus running around that would be fantastic and what’s really unique is you don’t have to have different nails and females there. Yeah they can crossbreed between each other can’t they🥰🥰🥰

I've hatched both bearded dragon eggs and ducks/geese/emus..
The two are incubated completely differently.

My friend hatches out emus and ostrich. You need to not take them out all the time to check. Taking them out so much shocks the chick

I’ve seen this before. It helps if you drill a hole a few days before they hatch. So they can get oxygen. Sometimes there isn’t enough.

Could be from getting cold at times. The interruption of temperature can be one major cause of the yoke not having enough time to absorb into the babies in the eggs. Also looks like some of the organs didn't develop right. Could also be caused by temperature changing to often or to much. One other cause is bad genetics. BUT I don't think its that cause. I do think its the temperature one. I hatch alot of chicken and quail eggs. I also at times hatch Turkey and duck so I do see the difference temperature can make if its not constant or changes to often for the egg.

I recently recently went through the same thing with two different hatches of duck eggs one egg from each made it all the way to last day they were peeping everything seemed fine one of the eggs was backwards wasn't able to absorb the yolk or get out and the same thing happened again but we actually took the other one out but because of being backwards and the Egg it still wasn't able to absorb the yolk and it died it's the saddest thing when you hear it peeping and when it's made it to the last days and I felt so guilty as if I did something wrong but I know I didn't it was a horrible feeling thank you for posting your video it made me realize that these things just happened with raising animals I pray for you and your family in the name of yahuah the creator of the world

It’s disheartening to lose them before hatching, particularly just a few days before because they hadn’t absorbed the yolk. But take the positives from it,
you’re now getting fertile eggs! Hopefully more baby emus to come😁🤞
Don't open the incubator door or take them out lol. we can see just fine through the glass. that could be why the eggs are not making it. my grandma would hatch baby chicks she be like you can look but don't touch lol.
If your temps, and humidity are correct, then you're too hands on, and messing with incubator, need to trust the process. and let them hatch on their own without constantly reopening the bator, just let them be. I see a lot of homesteading families doing that on TH-cam.

With the eggs having such a long incubation time it makes sense that the babies would still have enough nutrients inside of them from the yolk to not need to eat for a week it would make sure that all off them could get a chance to hatch before the parent has to take the babies elsewhere to find food
Just a little tip to help you hatch emus ( I wouldn’t take them out every day bcs it can cause shock to them and stop them from absorbing yoak and some other things.) GL ON GETTING MORE ❤❤🎉

If it close to hatching aren’t you supposed to lock it down so the humidity is high? Why are you taking it out and putting it back in nonstop? Wouldn’t that cause the membrane to harden and the chick won’t hatch? I know for chick and duckling there a lock down so for emu I expect the same

I think you have opened too many times the incubator and then the humidity will change.
Try not to open the incubator especially the last 2 weeks and never when they are hatching ..
It’s been a tough season for emus this year. I normally get 18-32 eggs each season, but only got 6. Of the 6, only 3 made it to hatch. 2 died at hatch and the last one died a couple days after hatching. I’ve never had a hatching problem. Such a bummer! I feel your pain. Glad you got one little emu though.
I’m so sorry for the loss of the hatchlings, I could see how much that hurt you. I hope the last one will make it.
