I always play Mick to my bass students, and they are floored. Instantly recognizable in a world filled with imitators. I wish he was still with us. Brilliant player AND composer.
This is fantastic! Makes my day! Jansen, Barbieri, Karn together is magic! Steven Wilson really ads. I miss Mick Karn! No one played the bass like him.
No one...
This sends shivers up my spine. It's like nothing else. You are missed Mick.
They're all so cool and relaxed while thumping out this insane masterpiece.
That's the epitome of jam band . Fabulous.
Fantastic musicianship!. Wow, speechless.
R.I.P. Mick Karn.
I have been a fan of Japan since early 1980 & their subsequent projects;solo & otherwise, since. Does anyone else have a shudder down their spine at Barbieri's keyboard performance from 6.43 onwards ? What a fantastically talented bunch of musicians, one & all.
I just love steven's long hair!
Wonderful. Miss you Mick.
Pro rock shit.
Happy birthday Mick ❤🌹 60 this year
Four fine musicians. Epic track! Miss you Mick..
JBK... totally stunning.
Epic Karn
As a HUGE PT and SW fan, including the delirium years, from about 2004. I can't believe I'm discovering this today, and it just made my year! Feels like I'm falling through a void of Old School PT and tripping 😊
Agreed. I discovered this earlier this year, late 2022 and cannot believe how good it is. Would love to see a Steven Wilson remix and new release of this JBK material.
This video radiates way too much beauty
Thanks for posting this. I always wonder how people get all this wonderful stuff to post on youtube. After Japan split I did not really follow the individual band members, and what they were doing. Now I know I've missed much. R.I.P. Mick
You certain did! I hope you've managed to catch up in the 5 years since you posted your comment?!
I saw Japan 5 times in the 80s loved them, lost interest when they split, just found this now in 2020, Amazing ..
MICK KARN - SO UNIQUE -

Mukunda this was from Abstract Day, 1997.
This is spot on
Such a sublime trio. Verily, their influence on modern music may be as incalculable as it is invaluable. (How can one not love and admire these guys?)
Thanks for sharing!
Missing Mick, indeed.
peace
they are all fantastic musicians ,all credit to them each and every one
another great performance. eternal karn. big jansen; not only brother of.......
Just damn.
Duran Duran lost their #1 position to Japan... I love them then and solo. Mick is my fave.
He's so pretty and talented and unique
Superb
Got first properly intruduced to J&B on a Future Music CD with this very song.
Many moons later, Porcupine Tree.
These are what is missing in todays music... Its called "talent" kids. Look it up.
This is a real treat! Thanks for sharing.
EPIC KARN.
Thanks for posting.
@alexcubata of course Duran Duran did not officially lose anything to Japan. Can they even be compared?
Fact is (in an interview with John) Japan was inspiration for Duran Duran.
It is by my opinion that Japan is more awesome than DD, thought they remain cool as they were!
Huzzah, Mick is so pretty!

MICK ありがとう
@citic101 It's on the 1995 Jansen/Barbieri album, "Stone to Flesh".
RIP Mick Karn
Steven Wilson, from Porcupine Tree. He has many bands, you should listen to Storm Corrosion too.
ありがとうございました
This is a great song, there are still the sounds of Japan in it but after the split, this will do.
Song?...it’s really just a jam with some repeated structures.
Japan had structure ...
Gjhgjhgjhg Vhgvhgvhgv People like it. No need to be technical. You’re impressing nobody
thanks this is an album i should buy this sounds great
Brilliant, thank you for putting this on youtube x
this is incredible. thank you for posting.
@mirzamarco I'm guessing that he's triggering a pattern on the drum machine, yes. That's part of his sound, combining real drums with drum loops.
Thanx Pafemo... Regards!!!
this album is 16GBP on amazon !!!!
epic!
ん、コレはかっこいいぞ!!
undeux355 ので、あなたは!
Steven Wilson. He has a band with Barbieri called Porcupine Tree and has worked with many legends over the years including Robert Fripp and Alex Lifeson. Definitely check him out, he's releasing a new solo album the 25th of February.

In all respect to Japan (and Mick, R.I.P.) whose I´m a big fan I wouldn´t agree with such a little hot-headed comment..consider DD doesn´t mean only well-known big hits or similar crap (devastating big-labels-influence is here evident)..such a kind of view would be very unfair and limited..Taken without prejudice DD does mean lots of hidden gems - sophisticated songs, great b-sides, interesting live-versions, Arcadia project, Medazzaland etc. This is what DD musically really means!
I always hum this as "Sylvian mood"
@RinaTTinside Really? When was that? Sounds incredibly amazing
Does anybody know where/when this was recorded?

Is Steven Wilson?????
@wraithy65 How old is your lucky son? Good to know this music
Awesome jam! Who is the guitarist?
Keith Rowley Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree and no-man
@@blixaland Rowley 😭😭
Is this performace available on DVD by any chance?
Jansen / Barbieri - Lumen
Sounds like Gong!
And the guitarist's hair is long enough for Gong too! :-) I don't think the bass sounds like Gong though.
Bit of hillage in there
which album is this on
Karn evil one
1st impression!
Explain please.
He des look a bit demonic here...
It looks like Steve Jansen is not actually playing the drum part, as witnessed at 1:02 and 1:11. Such a pity. Is that a drumloop or what?
