Do at Sturgis whatever it is you wanna do. Thats the beauty of it. Do a lot. or not. Drink. Or don't. Ride a lot. Or don't. Im 55. Last summer I got to go for the first time. Could end up being the only time. Who knows. I rode out from Ohio and back. Me and the guys were 100% focused on hitting the rides. We were up and out all day every day exploring and finding places for grub and a beer. We hit everything and everywhere. We rode something like 750 miles that week. We walked the strip a couple times but skipped Full Throttle, Skipped the Chip, Skipped the drag races and other attractions. We got back to the campground in Spearfish early evening each day and had a few pops and generally turned in early, from exhaustion. It was Hot that week. If I were to go back again, I'd do some new things and probably do more drinking and less balls out riding in the heat. I'm just a random blue collar slob. I have no reason to attend all the trade and chopper shows. And I'm too damn old for the Chip shenanigans. But this is me. Everybody is different. Whatever you're into you can find happiness. And btw....Did you say Lynyrd Skynyrd? They're literally ALL dead, now. So that just makes no sense.
Without being rude, I'll say you're missing out on a lot of life. I'm 68.7 yrs old and started going in 2008 for the first time. I have the time of my life each year. I've found places to stay cheap, eat cheap and party cheep. I spend more on gas than anything else. I do almost twice as much riding as you did annually. I come down from the north (Alaska) and go to Wisconsin for home town folks first. This year, I'll come to Ohio to see friends who can't make the rally. Life, it's only one and done. Live it to its fullest, my friend.
Tuesday we are hitting the iron horse for Hairball. Also creed fisher is at kickstands for 2 nights. All the concerts at kickstands are free to get in!
We are going to get to town on Sunday, Maybe we can catch up Sunday night at the Chip. We are also looking at going Wednesday night as well. We may do vendors on Monday just to take a break after riding 1K to get there and go see all the Vendors at Exit 55. I have a ride planned Tuesday and I think another on Friday. So I have a few days open still.
I haven't riden in 11 years at this point but will again one day. And at that point,Whenever it may be,I will make my pilgrimage to Sturgis. Mainly because the last time I rode I lived in the Hudson Valley of New York,now I live in Colorado and it's a 6 hour drive to get to Sturgis for me.

You need to go into Sturgis and buy a print of all the people. They take a picture I want to say on Wednesday at noon. I'm in a lot of them for the last 15 years.
I made a day by day calendar so I know what is happening that day and I can go or not. T.T. is a good Tuesday ride/event. Ham Jam Wednesday in Hewett, numerous rides on different days. Always a bike show at the Chip. I'm particular to tge FXR Show. Then tge rides to Badland, Devils Tower, Rushmore, Needles, Pig Tails, Spearfish, Vanknocker Canyons. Then you have the museums at Crazy Horse, Bikers in Sturgis, Rapid. On top of all that you have the Harley shop which is a mini Sturgis all by itself. Deadwood is always a mid week day. I say all 10 days and this year I will be their by 1 August and till 15th. There is never enough time to see it all.
lots of road construction on I90 thru South Dakota this year. expect two lane traffic at 65mph for miles and miles. Sturgis is gonna be rough with traffic east bound lanes are all tore up.

Yep. The 31st we get there late, 1st and 2nd is gonna be our chance to have hubby and wife time, the 3rd is the first event at Kickstands. Pool area is public at the Pony. It’s awesome!!!
@Trexducatis I agree! When I deployed to Iraq, people in my platoon told me to never go down cause it’d take two or more of them to carry me out of danger! I’m 6’ 5” tall and then I weighed about 250-275!! Now I’m knocking on the door of 300lbs!

This will be my first year going and I'm bringing my girl with me. We're staying in Rapid City. Since it's my first time, I think the majority of my time will be spent doing the rides, checking out vendors, and some of the bike shows. I think I'll probably go back next year and do the partying at the campgrounds.
@EricSVT18 You should check out some Professional Monkey videos and a few other motorcycle TH-camrs on the various rides around Sturgis; this being your first time there, you’ll want to be extra careful riding those roads. From what I’ve heard, curves come up suddenly, change ratio’s quickly(get sharper or wider than they start out being), and this leads to lots of accidents and injured riders because they aren’t familiar with the roads or how to handle their bikes in challenging situations. I’ve never been to any rallies myself, but when I do get to go, I plan to ride as carefully as possible while not pissing other riders off behind me!
@TruckingShooter I only had to make a year long trip to Iraq to really hate being around people, not to mention the fact that my bullshit threshold is a dangerously low bar which means I don’t deal well with idiots to begin with and I know that I should keep my ass well away from anywhere that I might be confronted by large numbers of idiots!!!
Any recommendations for rally’s closer to us down south that still get wild? I plan on riding the black hills this year but probably not during bike rally though I would like to find a good rally to go to this year

Found my new favorite channel to binge. I’m new to riding motorcycle and have been at it for about a year. Just bought my second bike (Indian chief) as an upgrade from my starter bike. I plan to get a bagger but don’t think I can do it justice by putting enough miles on it right now with my schedule. So my question - I’ve been interested in going to Sturgis and have been watching a lot of videos on it. One thing I’ve noticed is a don’t really see anyone who looks like me there. I’m a Canadian born and raised Indian (guy from India). I know the biker community is amazing, but I worry about feeling out of place or unwanted at Sturgis. What are your thoughts on visible minorities attending the rally. Have you had any experience with any and how do you think my experience may go? I think it’ll be fine, but also have this nagging worry about racism or just being out of place.

I’m sure I’d get along with Professional Monkey and his family and friends, but I’d be very wary around the 1% biker community just because I wouldn’t want inadvertently “step on any one’s toes” so to speak! On the other hand, I’m 6’ 5” tall and nearly 300lbs, so I don’t have to deal with idiots very often or those types who have a tendency to try starting shit for no reason! These are just words to think about! Here’s another tip, it doesn’t matter where you’re from, what “race” you might be, or what you ride or drive; act like you belong, have fun, and don’t do anything stupid and I’ll bet nobody will bat an eye at you or try to make you feel out of place!

They are constantly redoing parts of the highway. Every year, there are 15-20 mile stretches and usually 3 or 4 of them.

Nah, Sturgis is pretty well universally thought of as the top dog. The riding is as good as the party, and most rallies have only one or the other.
I look in the mirror in the morning, first thing to make sure nobody painted my face while I was passed out
