  • Using both our rollbacks to recover and then tow a pickup and dump trailer after they had jack-knifed, rolled over, and landed in a ditch. Both the truck and trailer were a total loss, but amazingly neither of the men in the truck were injured!!! Thanks for watching and God bless. www.paypal.me/... www.midwesttruc... www.guardianan... Just glad no one was severely injured. I really wish they had gotten a medic to come take a look at the driver, but you cannot force people to do what they don't want to. What a gut-punch losing your livelihood in the blink of an eye like that. Prayers sent for those fellas to get back on their feet quick. Glad nobody got seriously injured - that could've been alot worse in that regard!
    I got flashbacks from this from a tow I did 5 years ago. I have a Silverado exactly like the one here in the vid, only an extended cab instead of a crew. I had my 18' dovetail in tow to pick up a van. Well, this was a F-350 van, with an 10" of combined lift, and 44" Super Swamper tires - this thing TOWERED over the roof of the Silverado! Whole thing was apart - engine and entire driveline was removed, disassembled, and in the back of the van, so there was no way to load this thing without being tail-heavy. Seemed ok as I was accelerating up the on-ramp to the highway. I merged into traffic no problem, about 65 MPH, then went down the hill on the other side. Boy did that trailer start whipping! Almost the second I let off the gas, too. I cleared the whole highway - people were driving in the breakdown lane on both sides. I hadn't been so scared behind the wheel in years. I reached down and stabbed my brake controller full bore. Seemed like an eternity, but I held onto it, didn't try to correct - just tried to keep it straight and not go too hard on the truck's brakes, and she eventually calmed down. WOW!! I was sweating bullets! I went 55 mph the rest of the way home. As soon as I got back, I got on eTrailer and ordered a weight distribution hitch with anti-sway. No more white-knuckle rides for me! I could have easily ended up like these guys, only worse since I was going over 60, and had ALOT more weight behind me! Could've killed somebody else as well. I thank God nothing bad happened!!
    Great vid as always, Ron. Hope you and the family had a great Independence Day. May God continue to bless all of you and keep you all safe.

    It’s always the good folks, the people that bend over backwards every day to make a living for their family, that get struck by misfortune. And that’s not just a stereotypical lament but something I’ve seen many times over the decades.
    Life is a gift and we should cherish it more than anything else but it’s best to accept that life ain’t fair. Sometimes it seems quite the contrary. Battles are there to be won but if life is one long uphill battle it takes a grand person to straighten your back over and over again...and when the working man prevails in doing so, that makes me immensely proud.
    We shouldn’t forget that the working man is the real nobleman.

    Poor driver looks totally frustrated with the situation. its a good idea using the block of wood to save the cable. Hope he had insurance. I came close to having a similar type of accident. I had my toyota hilux towing a large single trailer (similar to the black one you picked up) with an old VW Kombi body on it on its roof. We had to roll it on to the trailer off a bank. . We had old motors and some junk in it. It was all pushed to the front and id tied a rope between the "B" pillars to stop things moving back. A guy changed lanes on the motorway in front of me forcing me to brake hard. As i accelerated off again i think a motor broke the rope and the load shifted back. It started yawing and i went across all 3 lanes and back before i managed to pull it straight by jamming into 3rd an hitting the gas. I nearly had to change my pants. we pulled over moved the motors back and retied everything. it happens quick. Had a nervous rest for a minute and carried on.

      The worst I’ve had on the road is going up a hill in a cattle shoot during heavy rain and poor drainage I hydroplaned twice and nearly lost control. We have a farm and I was going down a steep hill with a hydrostatic little tractor(50 or 60 hp) and about 4-5 tons on a bale trailer and it ended up pushing me and jack knifing on me since I didn’t have the breaks or gearing to try and slow it down. Both of my scary moments. Luckily I fortuned better than these guys like you did.

    From one LoadMaster to another, I like those little wooden skids for the trailer jack. That's alright. A former career as HC-130 LoadMaster, USCG 21 years. The flying was easy but we hustled on the ground moving cargo, using winches to load the aircraft and swapping pallets while making the "milk run" logistic flight and also maintaining the weight and balance on the aircraft. We were the mechanics on the ground and aircrew when the engines were running, sometimes we fixed our airplane to include an engine change away from the station and used local wreckers to hoist our engine in place.

    i was riding my bicycle home from visiting my mom the other day and i seen a dust cloud and once the dust cleared i realized it was a accident. person got ejected but it was only him who was in the jeep. i seen a car seat and freaked out as one would wen u see a car seat in a accident or even a roll over but the child wasnt in the jeep at the time of accident. ive never in my life had that happen in front of me... had i been in the spot he hit it coulda been me as well. just hope the man will make a speedy recovery. he was talkin moaning and groaning(good signs of being alive) as they took him away in the ambo. but man its scary when accidents happen. stay safe everyone and slow down and move over for anyone on the side of roads

    I've been close to having this happen. When moving my family to our current location, the tow vehicle couldn't control the sway of the uhaul very well, but by God's grace, I was able to catch control of the vehicle and get straightened out. The butt clench was nearly tearing the cloth off the seat though.

    Towing a trailer that is too heavy for the truck is so dangerous, especially with not enough tongue weight. Glad they were not hurt bad.

    • @Malakie
      @Malakie 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually have the same setup, but a Nissan truck the same size... and the truck in this video and this trailer weight ratio are just fine and it is rated for that.. To me it looks like the trailers battery either died this not engaging the brakes or the brake lines broke or came loose.. My bet, the battery died or was unplugged because those trailers do not normally wag the dog unless something drastic like a tire blowing happens. The trailers center of gravity and weight ratio are why they are one of the best trailers on the market in their design and capability. In fact after watching the rest of the video, they got lucky.. that trailer took a ride but outside some tires and bent rims, it appears to have held up damn good and should be fully usable again. They may need to replace the tongue ball joint as well but outside that, I don't see any major damage.

    • @92804dv
      @92804dv 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Gotta wonder if the the load shifted to the rear, and the tongue weight went negative.

    • @fantasticola
      @fantasticola 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      it was that or he was going to fast, and started fish-tailing. Easily done with uneven load. Could be nose or tail heavy, which drastically effects and dangerous to vehicle.
      .
      in the UK a trailer that weight/load rating, requires you to pass a practical exam, and a license rating update
      .
      American Road laws a little too relaxed on these things.

    • @jfbeam
      @jfbeam 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't say if it's outside the designed weight limits. However, towing a heavy load with a pickup truck is never ideal; the back end is always too light. (and if you put too much tongue, it can pull the front wheels up compromising steering.) This is why I always use load distributing / anti-sway hitch. (and tow with a 3ton commercial cargo van, previously 30ft RV)

      The trailer battery only engages the trailer brakes if the trailer becomes disengaged from the truck. Under normal circumstances the brake controller in the truck powers the trailer brakes. The breakaway cable was visible when Ron went behind the truck and found the mailboxes. There are no brake lines that go to electric trailer brakes... they are electric...
