    If you use a vinyl rain gutter as a glide inside your 5 inch vinyl post your hoses can just lay on top of it and slide the whole thing inside... when you take them out then you can also use it to keep your hose straight going from your RV to the dump site.

    You can order that vinyl fence post material online in black.
    FYI - maybe just wear a stocking cap for padding (my plumber does this when working in crawlspaces)

    This is exactly what I've been looking for, thank you!
    How's it gone since you've installed this? I think I'd be a little concerned with that 8-ft vinyl fence post sagging in the middle. Have you supported it in any way to keep it from sagging?

  • @lanedelker9161
    @lanedelker9161 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I think I saw the same video as you. Mine looks almost exactly like yours. The only thing I did differently was I painted my post black beforehand. I also screwed the opposite cap shut on the camp side. I like your hitch pin much better. Mine is a threaded rod with a wing nut that's kind of a PITA. I couldn't find a pre-made hitch pin long enough. Kudos for fabricating your own.

    • @DownsizingMakesCents

      Lane, Larry likes opening caps on both ends.

    Typing from under my GD Imagine 2800BH. Installing 2 of the 5x5's and only got 6 tapping screws for some reason. It's starting to come together and I even had spacers laying around to compensate for the propane line running down the passenger side under the I-beam. Thanks for the video. Hoping this turns out as nice as yours minus one goose egg. :-)

    • @DownsizingMakesCents
      @DownsizingMakesCents  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hope yours turned out good. I love having the extra space in my 5x5 tube for connectors and accessories that won’t fit in the bumper or my super tube. The goose egg helps me remember how much I had with this project. Larry

    Larry is Alice beating you again? lol. Come on Alice get in on that black tank. It is not that bad. What in the crap do you need those safety glasses for. You never get hurt. lol That is a pretty cool setup. I can think of many things even beyond sewer lines that you might could store in there. We all know more storage of any kind is great on a RV. No hamlet I want to see where this leads. Man you are super crafty. You and my wife will get along well. She is good with stuff like that. Thanks for the share y'all. I think I may use this for different storage area ideas.

    If you get a 4" vinyl eavestrough/rain gutter the same length as the fence post, slide it in first and now you have a pullout drawer for the stinky slinky. As an added bonus, the eavestrough can be pulled out and used as a sewer hose support while you are parked and set up.
    It may be better going up to a 6" post and a 5" eavestrough so the fittings fit in better.
    I'd love to take credit for the idea, but I can't

    It's a small thing I know. Also, for the weekend warriors, go to a new subdivision near you and ask workers about left over 4" round PVC pipe. Great "up-cycle" idea and one less pipe in the land fill. Just know ahead of time how long you need to span the frame.

    Curious what happens when you force the hose and fitting into the bumper @ 0:24? I suspect it will eventually get it stuck and rip the hose trying to remove it when it binds up. Here is another great version with a spring loaded door, so you don't drive off without the door... The gutter tray is very good idea too.

    I've also seen one smaller storage bay with a basket that has all the sewer stuff including the black tank flush hose and the gloves. It's all that lives in it, that way it doesn't stink anything else. They use a magic hose that is a different color than the drinking water hose.

      Hi. We used to keep a lot of it in a bucket. But as full timers, we need all the storage we can get. Plus I like the stinky slinky to be outside away from everything else. Also some people mention it could be used for fishing poles and other things. We can add a lock 🔒 too. Thanks for your thoughts. Take care. Alice.

    You think that's a lump? Wait until you get whacked with a Jeep driveshaft! 🤕
    Great job, only thing I could improve would be to suggest some kind of tether line / cable so the lids don't get lost.

      @DownsizingMakesCents  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Silas, did you see the other head injury video 🤣. I almost fainted. Larry said your tether line is a good point. He needs to add that. Thanks. Stay safe. Helmet for you? Alice

      @@DownsizingMakesCents Yes, did find that vid of his head-butting the hitch angle plate, and I'll give you points for a worse injury, bleeding wise, than my Jeep driveshaft, which acted more like a club, rendering me semi-conscious with a huge lump. Always good to have a 'complete' first aid kit with wound closures, etc. Be safe!

      Rick, hi. A second tube is an option but they are much more expensive and the main point is they are too small for all the attachments. But if you are not a DIY guy you can definitely just have the bucket of accessories separate in your basement. Thanks for your thoughts. Alice

    Love this idea. I’m not super comfortable drilling into steel so I might look for a different way to attach with zip ties or something.

    • @DownsizingMakesCents
      @DownsizingMakesCents  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you use the self drilling/tapping screws like I did , it is pretty easy, but I think you could use heavy duty zip ties also. Larry

      I used beam clamps and all thread and made a trapeze hanger to hold mine up so didnt have to drill into the structure. Has held steady after many years and miles.

    Looks great. I believe I would had gone with a little larger washers. Also I would add a strap around the outside of the pipe to keep any movement to a minimum. I'm one of those "overkill" folks if ya didn't notice

    • @DownsizingMakesCents
      @DownsizingMakesCents  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am also one of those overkill kind of guys, bigger washers would have been better. So far it is holding up well after over two years of constant travel, over crappy bumpy roads. I should inspect the screws and washers to make sure the plastic is not fatiguing. Maybe i will do a follow up video. Larry

    Something just occurred to me in regards to going “…anywhere near the black tank…”! When young couples have babies in diapers, moms are troopers when it comes to changing dirty diapers, while dads are usually, “Ahh, hell nah!” Lol! (Well, not my hubby, he did a good job and no gagging.) Enter the empty nesters and retirees, and most couples I see, it’s the guy doing the black tank stuff. 🤭🫣 So guys, what goes ‘round…
