    Reminds me of the roll stand bolts we used to make back in the day. Made them on a 60's vintage monarch engine lathe. Loved doing those! Excellent work on that tie rod!

    Just brilliant Chris as always you have some serious skills my friend!!! I have been wondering if you could do a video, maybe a short?, on how you get the 3 jaw into the 4 jaw and clock it up?? I suspect it is a little awkward with the gaps of the jaws and chuck key holes.

    I used to use a little bearing grease or something else thick and sticky to hold the bottom pin in place when I measured big shit with pins.

      I'm pretty sure that they often mill shaft faces clean and center drill them on a HBM.

      @@qualified_monkey8813 We do it like that on bigger parts. On smaller parts we clamp a chuck on the end an drill the center with a cordless drill and a guide bushing through the chuck.

      You can also use a tail stock mounted chuck & machine a steady rest band , then you can do any machining on the end .

    Did you have to set the tool geometry each time, ? It looked like the same tool post position each time. Maybe that was down to the diameter of the work piece..

    Chris, is that an attachment on your micrometer when you were measuring over the wires? If so, where did you get it? I do a lot of large threads, and anything over 4 threads per inch i have to measure over a parallel on top of the wires and subtract the thickness of the parallel to get my measurement. works just fine, just a little clumsy trying to hold all that. Would be nice to have a micrometer like the one in your video. Thanks for posting

    Love watching your vids but would it be possible for you to put what the metals are and not just the material codes cause I'd love to fully understand what the metals are and for what jobs you use them for, same goes for the inserts, cnmg999999 just looks like a cheat code for street fighter 🤣 would be cool if you could add the descriptions and would help people learn better.     why not use a full form threading insert? they always work great for me. less deburring and alot cleaner thread imo.

      I can think of many reasons... but rather than go down that path. The core question is what kind of work are you comparing to his? Material, thread type, etc.

      Because he does all kinds of custom threads all the time. Single point is the way to go with this stuff, plus tool pressure can be an issue.

    This one showed and then wandered off; YT's algorithms remain a mystery.
    0:03 - H-T and surface finish specs shown; you can deliver one of those.
    1:00 - Lots of screaming going on.
    3:46 - Never heard one of your cuts make that amount of noise; gotta trust that that was the least you could find.
    4:46 - Wow. Even that single-edge tool is that noisy with coolant - a result of the material being cut?
    6:33 - Regardless of the noise, the surfaces look fine!
    7:51 - You can still fix it there.
    10:28 - This is a "stretch stud" for some high-load application.
    12:38 - VERY nice fit,
    12:58 -Surprised there's n 'cushions' on the chuck jaws

      Man, you are killing me 😅. That background noise, it wasn't me. That's the horizontal boring mill right behind me. They had some problems with the machine and that's where the noise is coming from. I just realized that when I put the video together.

      and the groove can be done fast with an adaptive toolpath with round insert

      They might be OK for smaller diameters, high rpm. My lathe maxes out at 630 rpm and the down side is that you need second tool for 90° shoulder.
