BW Lisa's! Lol what a throwback! I loved all your videos, the BW midrange Lisa's that would get there, the 60 card mono red deck that trophied. Thanks for this video, it brings back so many memories.
Pack 2 pick 1 not taking Bomardiers is criminal…just play Lurrus as a value 3 drop don’t get married to the companion idea that’s a trap. And Bombardiers was better than all your other black cards combined at that time
36:00 doh! Research Desk hit dismember, which was the perfect card to deal with the board, but then you let it go because you thought the Research Desk card needed to be cast by EOT. With Research Desk, you have until the EOT of your next turn.
Paul, here's some good advice for vintage cube: open power! It's not saying there's no chance to trophy without power, but power does make things a lot easier with the occasional oops I win draws.
It is really tought to draft a 2 color Lurrus deck because usually there are not enought 1 and 2 drops available in just 2 colors. Typically when I draft Lurrus, I draft similarly to if I'm drafting Domain. By opening yourself up to 3-5 colors, the risk decreases of ending up with not enough creatures. So if I've picked up an early Lurrus, I prioritize mana fixing/flexibility even higher. Also, Paul seemed to have the mindset that everything in a Lurrus deck wanted to be cheap. I disagree with that sentiment: Lurrus decks can afford (and sometimes want) to more expensive non-permanent spells. For example, a card like Mystic Confluence (with the assumption that mana supports) is usually great in Lurrus decks. If all your spells are cheap, it is hard to compete with the 3s, 4s, and 5s from midrange decks so Mystic Confluence becomes your 5 drop,. It is a way to psuedo-cheat on the companion requirements.
Unfortunately not great, as parallax wave only sacrifices on upkeep if you can't remove a fade counter, and you can activate parallax wave with the hexmage ability on the stack.
Was surprised you didn’t keep Dismember since desk is till your next turn, but sleeper is really strong late game and the 5/5 is a wall regardless so it is certainly defensible.
I totally agree that it feels like you fell into the Lurrus trap. There were so many permanents that would have made your deck so much better. Recurring Nightmare, Serra Paragon, the Reanimator Fanatic, Palace Jailer, Shriekmaw, Grief, Solitude, Enduring Innocence. You could actually have had a really neat Nightmare/Corpse Dance deck. Shame. You also skipped the Legion Extruder that came early to go into more of a red artifact Lurrus direction. Maybe even play Lurrus regularly to include Bombardiers and Gut. Man, pack 2 pick 1 was painful! Regular Lurrus with Demonic would have been an interesting twist, but I don't think it's worth it to skip Sculler, Bob, and Bomba. Fun draft! I like that you're branching out into Cube. Thanks for all your videos and happy holidays, Paul!
Pack 3 is why I hate Lurrus. In black white and passed: sheoldred, palace jailer, solitude and (to a lesser extent) grief. Basically the most busted cards in your colours and you can't play them.
Sorry Paul, just came here to comment and say I can't stand looking at MTGO and won't be watching any content from that client. It's old, it's ugly, and I'd rather watch paint dry than see all these manual clicks and spreadsheet-esque graphics.
I agree with MTGO not being particularly ascetic anymore, however I think there is a lot of entertainment to be had, especially from Paul’s drafts. Vintage cube especially
You guys just need to get used to it. The vintage cube format is so superb it is worth sacrificing some aesthetics for it. It bothered me as well back when I first watched mtgo content but it really does get better. Also BO3 is way superior and I think the whole priority and technical gameplay stuff is handled better on mtgo than on arena. The chess clock style is good (although some combo decks might run low on time if you are new to the client)
I don't know why youtube didn't inform me this was live but either way I'm so excited you are back at vintage cube. THE RETURN OF UTAMOG
Thank you so much for this! Magic online is a creaky old beast but the cards still play the same!
The LSV trap ;)
Your constant bemusement and frustration really captures the cube experience in its truest essence 😂
That's a good way to put it! 😂
I'm so glad you're back, I missed you 😅@@haumph
Thank you for the cubeness

Karakas is so ridiculous, especially in the MTGO vintage cube. You were stuck on 1 land vs a very fast start and Karakas single-handedly won the game.

The expedition map into dark depths after the hexmage pick up would have been huge
Yeeeaaah vintage cube ❤

LETS GO
Paul, Paul, Paul
What's the interaction of Hexmaging the Parallax Wave?
It removes the counters but the Enchantment sticks around until the opponents next upkeep
Unfortunately not great, as parallax wave only sacrifices on upkeep if you can't remove a fade counter, and you can activate parallax wave with the hexmage ability on the stack.
@@TMidander Gotcha. It's been like a million years since I've seen that card. I did find one in an old binder.
I really need to bite the bullet and figure out magic online, it seems so Daunting after playing arena for years
Was surprised you didn’t keep

Yeah same here. I tried it for the first two matches but I just can’t really enjoy.

You draft the boriest decks.

@@haumph There's no creativity or gamble. It's draw and play.
