As a 50+ year Dodgers fan, this episode has been downloaded. Three discussions made this epic. First, Freddy getting the top ranked impactful play of 2024 by both of you was great. I loved every detail covered by both of you. Second, the people listed for stud of the year were great. Picking Doc was great. I have often felt he may have been out of his league within the playoffs, especially when it came to yanking pitchers (and not doing it soon enough). His approach to pitching this year in the postseason was inspired. But Ken’s call for Ohtani was unquestionable. 50/50 alone would do it. Getting his third MVP in four years would have done it. This man is a god playing among mortals. Finally, not shying away from the Otani versus Soto first year success story was important. As someone who who has had economists work for him for decades, the concept of who was worth their contract in the first year is important. I will let the evidence fall how it may, but it would be nearly impossible for Soto to bring more value to a team, per dollar paid, compared to what Ohtani did this last year. Happy Hanukkah and merry Christmas to each of you.
Soto is not even close to the level of Shohei. I get annoyed when Ken ( or anyone else) describe Soto a "generational" talent. Is he? I think the word should only be used for a player like Shohei because we are not gonna see a player like him for a long time. What has Soto done so far, seriously? Has he ever won MVP? batting title? I know he won RBI title in covid year but anything else? ( Yeah I know he won WS with nats) Compare what Trout has done when he was his age and tell me how special Soto is.
Freemans banger in game 1 is not only the best moment of the year. But damn if it wasn't one of baseballs most iconic/memorable moments of all time. In a sport remembered by specific moments, it is definitely worthy of being up there with Thompsons pennet clinching Hr, Gibsons game 1 Hr, and Buckners nightmare in NY. It also couldn't have happened to a greater person in Freddie Freeman. Even as a Dodgers fan who has watched him play in the blue for years now. It's still bizarre to see him NOT in a Braves uniform. I will never understand why the hell they let him go. It will never make sense. Ever.
This! I am naturally biased as a lifelong Dodger fan, but am nearly as dumbfounded over the Braves letting him go. It did seem like (1) his agent messed things up and (2) the Braves saw a younger 1B player with an easier ask contractually. I loved Freeman so much already when he did have that rough game in Atlanta as his denouement that I was all set to support the Dodgers trading him back. It would hurt us (more than I could know at that time), but if it was that important for such an amazing human, I would have supported it. And now, he’s laser engraved into granite his accomplishments, persona, and hall of fame destiny into the pantheon of Dodger greats.
Rendon was more key. Soto was only 20 and didn’t really had that much effect neither during the season or post season. He just happened to play in the team that won.
@@mirikaku5811 Yeah he only hit 333/438/741 in that WS. Also that could be said about Ohtani in his WS with respect to Freeman. And really that's all beside the point.
1) that game was awesome and so was the ceremony. 2) clearly the stats shouldn’t have been nor should they be incorporated- it was a different lg. it’s one of the greatest tragedies in baseball that we never got to see those incredible athletes compete with major lg athletes, especially over something as stupid as segregation. That doesn’t mean that the stats shouldn’t be incorporated as if they are the same thing. Gibson did not hit 962 big lg home runs and trying to erase history by pretending what he did is somehow the same isn’t noble, nor is it “justice” it’s a lazy attempt to make people feel better about history.
He had a 190 OPS+ this year. He put up a 185 OPS+ last year while being a starting pitcher. I think I’ll give up 5 points of OPS+ and 20ish steals if I’m getting a starting pitcher with a career 3.01 ERA.
Problem with people like you who are just commenting from the couch is that Ohtani should have his own stats criteria made for 2-way players! Instead Ohtani is forced to play on the terms of specialized players stats made for players who are either hitting or pitching. Not both simultaneously. It is sheer wonder he can even be on the top echelon of those stats. Even 2024, he was rehabbing (meaning most of the daytime, while other training hitting, he had to do rehabbing = painful stretching therapy of scar tissue, regain mobility strength and nerve connection to the hands etc) and in the evening he would go out and play regular season games and hitting dingers..
He DHs when he's not pitching like he's been doing. Current MLB player saying that's just flat out crazy. Search for Chris Bassett interview and listen to what he said about him.
What Ohtani accomplished is great. But still a DH. The other players in that catergory played the field on defense sweating there ass off in the summer every inning. Ohtani was on the field 4 /5 ABs per game. that 20-30 mins on the field total. while sitting on his ass between ABs..players play defense 9 IP plus there ABs. thats going to affect your offensive output.
He's a hitter not a player. Facts are facts. Judge hit more home runs than ohtani and he played defense all yr. Is that crying? Or is that stating facts. Where does stolen bases rank as an offensive statistic? 10th maybe. If Ohtani is so talented as you say why can't he play defense?
Ohtani is the best I’ve ever seen. GOAT.

the 2 Yankee fans who almost ripped mookie's hands should win dorks of the year. they don't have respect for the game
Yep. And ban forever

Juan Soto won a world series on 2019 with the Nats
Between Dave Roberts stealing that base “in the World Series” and Juan Soto having “not won a WS yet” this was a fact free episode
Soto has also won World Series, Ken

she the same chick saying dodger lost to padres in nlds..she reaterded and dont' know what she talking about...
There is no way Ohtani will be the same if he pitches, he has too many days off
He had a 190 OPS+ this year. He put up a 185 OPS+ last year while being a starting pitcher. I think I’ll give up 5 points of OPS+ and 20ish steals if I’m getting a starting pitcher with a career 3.01 ERA.
@@sffan10 He's gonna be lights out with the dodgers. probably a 2.50 era and probably hit .280 35 bombs 100 rbis

A moment of the year: when I found out Ken Rosenthal got kicked out of the Padres dugout!

cry about it some more. Ohtani is the most VALUABLE player in every sense of the word.
Hilarious. You hate on Jordan? Pathetic. When you can’t recognize greatness you are stupid.
Then why there was no DH ever won MVP if it's so easy to achieve what he has done?
A DH…well that doesn’t look too good for Ohtani. A recovering rehab pitcher …wow he’s the greatest 😂.
