    Even if it takes twice as long I think this project deserves a full interior. A resin printer would be ideal for that😋

    Andy you could add rail tracks from the right into the small factory level with the concrete, so you could add a flatbed, and other rail wagons.

    During the war, many vehicles returned to the factory for upgrades. Maybe a tank having skirts added, extra armor added or main gun upgrades. That will allow for smaller supply items to scattered about

    Love your channel, Andy, and i really like the ceramic buildings. Here's an idea: Move building 1 and the office to the right side, inside the fence. Add on more ground squares on the back, and put the chimney with piping in the back right corner, by building 1. Keep building 2 as is, and add the freight warehouse on the back side, with rails and rail stock as wanted. Leaves courtyard room and street room, also allowing for interiors in main buildings. Don't forget giant 3 foot turntable...

    In case you didn't see in the other video, a Ferdinand coming back to the factory to be converted to an Elefant would be excellent. Pose a civilian factory worker's car near it for contrast. Something shiny in blue or red.

      Nice Idea, but the Ferdinand's have been build and converted to Elefant's in the Nibelungen Factory in St. Valentin, Steiermark/ Austria. The Buildings there are looking very different to those on Andy's Dio. Sorry for my bad English.

    Loving this Andy. Hmmm... a bit of ivy growing up the brick walls would give the building instant age. Plus... what self respecting tank factory wouldn't have a Kettenkrad or two around for hauling supplies, etc.

    Andy, just a quick note about the column trusses in the tall building... those would be oriented with a skinny side against the wall, in order for the web of the truss to better resist side forces, such as wind loads.
    Keep thinking, and playing with the layout of the subassemblies, and you'll get somewhere really special with this build!

    Like many others I really like the new layout. The added room to the yard will be ideal for more display options.

    Andy, awesome project! I think it would be relatively easy, with the posts you have, to make a gantry crane in the taller building. You could then have something heavy like a turret or hull hang within view just inside the door! I think that would look awesome! Just take some regular railway rail and support from those industrial posts and support also with the industrial joist that you show. These are not complicated to build. What do you think? I love this project.

    Doing well on a geat kit. A rail siding does not need to be ON a concrete surface. So you could end the hard surface and have the rail siding on a dirt/gravel surface. Just an idea!!!

  • @ITSARLOOL
    @ITSARLOOL 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    If it becomes a repair factory, maybe throw in some captured tanks being converted either pre or post conversation. Or maybe some tanks in the process of being converted into some of their prototype counterparts to throw in some flair and promote some of the more obscure models out there.
    Also if it’s a repair factory it would be relatively close to the frontline and possibly damaged. Maybe one of the smaller buildings could be in the process of being repaired after a bomb hit it! We could see trains hauling broken down tanks and materials in and being unloaded.

  • @jennyrodmartin1814
    @jennyrodmartin1814 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Loving what your doing.
    I think both the larger factory doors may still be too narrow to have tanks passing thru them. I believe a truck would be the largest thing using doors of that width, height etc, so components manufactured would be a practical alternative. With the chimney close by it would be providing the heat required to manufacture parts.
    Alternatively RSO or Kettenkrad manufacture? Whatever you do keep it up. Cheers

  • @chemech
    @chemech 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another quick note:
    First off, pipes and electrical conduit would be either supported above the ground from racks supported by those columns, or buried in trenches under the paving.
    A scenic thought is to have a plumber's crew hand digging a hole to get at a leaky "water" (sewer) pipe that's sprung a leak...
    Those pipes (ducts really) provided by RT Dioramas are *HUGE* for stem pipes... they're more like exhaust ducts bringing air from the buildings to the boiler.
    Real world steam pipes for something like this would be about 8" OD, with a couple of inches of lagging under a sheet metal sheath...
    A scale foot in 1:35 is essentially 11/32" (~9mm) - 3/8" works well enough for scenery.
    Lots of compressed air and water lines would also be in overhead pipe racks, so even 1/16" or 1.5mm or 2mm wire / plastic rod cab be useful.
    Electrical conduits in the 2" / 50mm size would be 1.5mm in scale.
    Just some tools for you to play with as you develop your ideas.

    During the war in the UK a lot of factories and hangers were camouflaged. Maybe a little waethered camouflage to the rooftops might make it look more period. What about a roof top air raid lookout post? I think it looks great and is coming on really well!

  • @keithbosch37

    This would seem to be a smaller area of a large complex, maybe where experimental/developmental panzer design would happen, blueprints on the tables and walls, different parts and armament coming together, some being transported for testing elsewhere, also with high security around, guardshack, guard's at the gate and so on. looks like fun 😊!, I was also thinking maybe a mock-up smaller scale wooden model in the background/window sill....

  • @markfergerson2145

    You know, if you wanted to expand that setup it wouldn't be all that hard to make silicone molds of the pieces and cast more out of plaster. The wood bits could be cobbled together from balsa.
    It may be my OCD but how is that furnace fueled? Those doors may be for shoveling coal in or if it's oil-fueled they could just be cleanout access, and that standing tank would be for its fuel. Either way there needs to be a little room in front of the doors for access.
    I can see a kubelwagen staff car in front of the office and a military officer or three showing up for an inspection, with the plant manager standing in front of the office door, hat in hands. Hey, the plant could be building kubelwagens!
    There are lots of in-scale tool and workbench sets out there that would adapt perfectly. Those would be on the ground floor, the second floor mostly for storage and maybe a toolroom. Is there a traveling overhead crane that would attach to the first floor roof beams for moving heavy castings and such?

    Hey Andy - fantastic progress. One Idea watching This given that you want to incorporate the RR tracks is perhaps to place the tracks where the cobblestone road is and move the wall to the very front of the dio (or not use them). Unless you make it larger it may be too cramped otherwise? Another Idea - how about placing the buildings in line as opposed to an L shape? Might free up some room for a nice courtyard/Loading area? Thanks for sharing - Regards Fredrik

    Really enjoying this Andy, such a great and novel project.
    I've been pondering on how to treat the back edges of the diorama, how are you going to cap the back end of the center building for example if the door is to remain open and you would see the factory floor. Wouldn't a photo or mural at the back end of a factory floor in perspective be great. Give you the illusion of a "mile long factory" beyond the confines of the diorama. Not sure how to get the image, but think of some of the industrial age videos produced in the 30's showing factory and manufacturing facilities (automobiles, etc). Just a partially developed thought that perhaps some of your readers that are smarter than I am can think of a solution.
    Also, I have worked in older factories that use the blocked wooden floors. These literally look like butcher blocks for the floor. They gave great wear and were repairable. But they could add some huge character and interest to the diorama inside the factory. Could probably make these just scribing some thin balsa wood and staining.
    Just a couple of random thoughts. Keep up the great work.

  • @joecallan8422
    @joecallan8422 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have you considered having your factory be a barrel turning mill? By barrel I'm thinking artillery or tank gun barrels. That way you could include a flatcar or some such used as transport etc.

  • @kristhijs3180
    @kristhijs3180 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why tanks or ground war cases? Many aircraft such as the Me262 were made in small factories. For example your EF126/EF127 Elli/Walli jet from Das Werk. Damaged fighterplanes from the Luftwaffe were always sent to the factory, not like the RAF (they were usually repaired at the airfield itself). Perhaps you should think about the Air Force and the Naval Forces. The possibilities are great. Great job so far, Andy

    You could even do different stages of the war,early on with the new equipment coming out,some bad equipment coming back for repair and the end of the war with the flags and german signs on the ground with allied forces poking around outside,with a holdout sniper inside in the rafters
