Can we take a minute to give kudos to the front rider. That was amazing horsemanship. Never lost center balance in the saddle. Complete calm and wasn't fazed by the rodeo like moves. Amazing 👏

It didn’t look like a classic spook, it looked more like a wasp, bee or horsefly sting. A sudden discomfort rather than a sudden fright. Note it was lashing out repeatedly with its hind legs... as though defending itself, it was not bolting as in a classic spooked situation.
A strap of the harness had gotten tangled up in the hind food of the horse. Well done to the postillion rider and grooms for sorting out the situation.
I think they did an excellent job in making sure that no one - to include the horse (horses) were hurt. To me, it appeared that the poor horse was stung by something. The reaction didn’t look like it was spooked, but rather panicked from the pain of a stinger.
"It doesn't take a lot to spook them" Christ tell me about it. Things that spook horses: -loud noises -flashing lights -moving shadows -their own shadow -lights in general -noises in general -nothing -nothing, but quieter.
The rider was in so much control. Now that's a seasoned rider. They all pitched in to calm the horse down. Luckily Beatrice and others were safely removed just in case.
All horses can be spooked, what’s important is everyone stays calm, it happens to everyone and even if they are royal people, they are no different - it’s part of horses, I will never understand if anyone thinks horses should be calm all the time, it’s a scary experience

Maybe that should be included in "bomb-proofing" training in future. Straps around the ankles, like western horses and hobbles, ropes being flung around them, etc.

The carriage horses are very well trained, but something spooked it. What was important was that the crowd and everyone around them remained calm and collected. Screaming, applauding or yelling would've made it worse
This was handled the best way possible. The spooked horse was freed, the rider did an amazing job holding tueir seat and remaining calm. Very well done!
The royal escorts did a fabulous job in handling the horses without a massive fuss, the rider showed her skill In staying seated. Handled very professionally
They did a great job. They were calm and kind. They checked the horses to see if something had happened like a bug bite, or some equipment digging in. It was nice to see.
They also saved an injury to the horse as well which could have resulted in being "put down". Broken legs are very difficult to mend, as far as I am aware. I have heard of horses with badly broken legs have to be shot, as they cannot be repaired.
It would be interesting to know if the rider was thinking, "Oh, I've had much worse than this," or whether it was really scary, as it is for a viewer like me unfamiliar with horses, except to admire their beauty and speed. All's well that ends well. Bravo to the rider and the escorts.
Brilliant work of the grooms, footmen of both carriages to bring the one back in control. I assume, based on my personal knowledge of driving horses, the horse stepped over a slack trace, putting it uncomfortably between it's hind legs and squeezing tight their genital area. A " leather wedgie " if you will. Hopefully, trace hangers will be added or, the driver of the wheelers will warn of too much slack of the lead team. Had the Duke of Edinburgh been alive, he would have gone off ...
Let’s give credit also to the riders who were able to keep their seats. I’m sure the responsibility of being entrusted with the Royal Family as well as members of the public around them and not to mention the Queen’s beloved horses is huge. The fact that none of the people were hurts, the horses were not hurt is a huge achievement. Also kudos to the crowd who could have made the whole situation so much more dangerous by screaming etc.
Total professionals although has anyone thought about putting an emergency release on that carriage so they can get the horses released quickly? I know just how dangerous a spooked horse attached to a carriage can be. Happily nobody human or equine was injured
Kudos to the other rider and 2 horses closest to the carriage...they are the ones that dug in and kept the two lead horses from bolting. They were literally locked in...they were not getting spooked and were holding steady.

This is why they have a rider on one of the lead horses. I believe that some how part of the harness got between the horse's legs and that often times leads to an impromptu rodeo. You have to give credit to the rider for keeping their seat and their wits. It could have easily ended badly. I'm glad everyone two-legged and four-legged were okay.
We can only speak of the luck that a rider sat on it and could handle the horse and enough others came to help right away. When the horse first bucked, one of the carriage ropes got under its hindquarters and that's why it couldn't stop.
