Sunset Views, Unique Graveyard & Times Square!: Exploring the East Side of Miri, Borneo

  • On my second day exploring Miri in Malaysian Borneo, I ventured to the east side of the city, starting off with an amazing park full of lush greenery, a beautiful lake, and even people dancing! The day took a surprising turn as I discovered one of the strangest graveyards ever - split right down the middle by a main road!
Next, I made my way to Miri Fan Park, named for its fan-like shape when viewed from above. As the sun began to set, I grabbed a taxi to City Hall, where after 5 pm, you can head up to the 10th floor for a breathtaking view of Miri and a spectacular sunset over the South China Sea.
To wrap up my last night in Miri, I paid a visit to the city’s very own Times Square - a hip and trendy spot filled with bars, restaurants, and shops. Although it’s not the Times Square of New York, Miri’s version has its own charm.
Saying goodbye to this vibrant city is going to be tough!
I am an older backpacker travelling the world proving that backpacking is not just for the younger generation.

As you say a surprisingly nice city is Miri, so clean and tidy, affordable too. Great sunsets to see from that building.
