How to solve fear reactivity FULL video - th-cam.com/video/CYQNQDN3VKg/w-d-xo.html
You taught me a lot in this video, the first thing I learned... nothing
Yes... he did.... he said "get his paid program" to learn his methods 😅
That’s not all you did stop the cap. Reactive dogs don’t just stop being reactive cause you have it freedom. You did something to make it feel comfortable
Program=Correction/redirection < reenforce neutral/calm behavior.
The trick with dogs is learning to identify what is aggressive and what is reactive and the stems of each
Of course he did. He gave you the outline but not the details. He means having the right tools to correct when they make bad decision and reward when they do. It then clicks.
👎🏻Dogs making their own decisions is the reason ppl want to train them lol
Exactly. I have a very reactive boxer pup. I am training him with obedience to be a good boy and listen. If I just let him make his own decisions he ends up pulling me down the street after every damn dog, person, leaf and bug
He is not telling you not to guide your dog, but to actually change his feeling around other dogs instead of still hating then wwhile performing tricks.
True, if my dog made her own choice she would unsafely cross the road
Gotta say - you have some of the best dog training info and explanations I’ve seen on TH-cam. Keep the content coming!
How does that even make sense saying that kind of statement without explaining why. That sounds like a bad idea to me
Do they have the decision to shit on the bed
You either reward or punish said decision. If you reward, you reinforce, increasing the odds of that behavior ( decision) to be repeated.. cmon, now let's be problem solvers
😂😂😂😂😂😂 shit on the bed 😂😂😂😂😂 I can't make sense of it either
Not a very helpful video, my dog would not act like a angel all off a sudden if he approached another dog in the park
That's not what he's saying? He's saying you're not treating the behaviour by distracting them. If you need help you need an expert to guide you, you're not gonna get the answer for all your problems on TH-cam
@@DudeWheresMyCardzon the contrary, using obedience to override a dogs reactivity is the best possible way to diminish leash reactivity. Because you're actually teaching your dog that they don't need to worry about what's going on, and instead you're training them that when they feel like reacting to whatever it may be, they just need to look to you and you will provide them with guidance to get through the unfamiliar situation. So you actually teach them to start ignoring all other things expect you on the walk. Which is 2hat you want.
@@jasperavery46he basically just implemented a “leave it” if anyone’s wondering. Sometimes it’s good for the dog to learn how to disengage theirselves even if it’s just with a help of a self implemented cue. Doing obedience to avoid confrontation can be a little inconvenient for you and the dog, and maybe even just a little bit unfair.
For me it was mostly about just distracting him with treats by allowing him to sniff them when other dogs would pass by and if he didn’t bark I’d give it to him…that worked pretty well for my pup
The advice I got was recommended to me by my behaviourist. Stop look at me before they react. So this is interesting
How would you teach a dog to walk on a leash better? And another dog to stop trying to bite people?
Of course things are a profession, however I believe with the amount of people who don’t understand dogs and yet own them, people need to be educated not paywalled. So many dogs get out down because of people ignorance.
This is so true!! Great explanation!! ❤️🙏🏼
So this goes against want most dog behaviorists recommend but doesn’t actually explain why or how. I’ll stick with what most experts recommend
Good video, there are so many trainers that don't know what they're talking about. And this video displays that you definitely do 🙌
Yeah just give freedom to a reactive dog that will worl nicely let him decide for himself that will work just fine
@@n0n3xyhe said a key point, obv there is training and desensitization done
So ur dog starts attacking another dog cause that’s it’s decision and then what?
You can’t just say using the ‘sit then treat’ method doesn’t work and then not actually tell us why and how your method is better 🙄
Hid the dog in obedience? Let them make their own choices?…well….life…what you think people are doing maybe wrong but there other people who train dogs that take them to trials to be judge by officials well say what you say is crazy. Which I agree to most the people here, it’s bad advice. Also, like I said life…we all well always judge each other. 😅
Oh no, not obedience! Nooo
Make their own decisions is terrible advice. I think I understand what you are trying to get at here, and maybe the short time restraint made it hard to articulate.
Fear based reactivities generally has to do with their owners not taking control and action which ultimately outs the dog in the position to take the lead which then causes anxiety and other manifestation behaviors some maybe a show boating of growly or postering.
With this being said
“Allowing them to make the decisions” is what” led them down this path.
As a dog owner it is our job to take action and allow the dog to feel confident
They look to us for protection and guidance
Similar to a young child.
I do agree with the statement about forcing a submissive stance then rewarding that.
This is ultimately establishing and validating their reactive response.
When the dog reacts in such a way
They are basically saying” this is a bad situation”
So you then react negatively
Which then tells the dog that this (what they have deemed to be negative) is INDEED negative which then you seal the envelope with a treat officially creating a behavior.
Instead of allowing the dog to make their own decisions, show them that the situation is not bad.
Ignore the dogs negative behavior
Have a light hearted fun conversation with the person and then allow the person to then acknowledge the dog in a
POSITIVE way then hand or throw the treat (if the dog is not quite ready for the stranger to her to close.
Like all dog training this takes time and consistency
But one day the dig will understand this person is nice and may even have treats!
Just thoughts of a 10 year+ professional dog trainer.
God bless!
Bs
Ok but getting to that point you need to teach them how to behave
Part of the challenge with this dog is the handler in the video is allowing the dog to make her own decisions. Handler needed correct tools, learn how to use tools and be a leader instead of letting the dog, “make her own decisions”.
Total crap! 😂
you taught nothing here
Omg. Let the dogs make their on decision? The worst advice you can give!
Some of these comments are beyond stupid , fools wanna play semantics and have too much of a smooth brain to understand what’s being shown and said …
It’s simple & to the point of what he’s trying to advertise. Good stuff sir 🫡
