There is something about lettering on a casting which manages to hold onto the paint even when using powerful paint strippers. Always requires a pick and a lot of work to clean out the letters.

I Just Picked up Some Old HO Aurora Controllers and Track . That's What Is Keeping Me Busy Right Now. I Need To Keep Busy Especially Now.

Coating with WD 40 to prevent flash rust works BUT if you wipe metal with Flood Penetrol you will get great long lasting rust protection plus a transparent prime coat.

@@357magdad Happy July 4th from Canada. I have a solid cast iron version of the 1299 (no holes in the handle) - it’s been in the shop since I was 5 years old - nice weight in your hand. Third generation of use.

About 20 + years ago I bought a RCBS Rock Chucker reloading master kit, powder and related stuff to start reloading 38 Special and 357 Magnum cartridges. I recently decided to use the stuff I bought. I have books, VHS tapes and DVD's on reloading. I also started watching TH-cam videos on reloading. I watched a lot of them and one I put on I didn't see who posted it, but I knew the voice right away. Wanna take a guess who the person was ?
I've loaded a lot of 357 with that Lee Loader kit!
Prime candidate for magic juice
Evapo-Rust saves me a lot of time and does a better job than I could with wire brushes.

Super nice project Magdad and a history lesson to go with it! I have 3 of those knives and i paid up a bit to get them with no chips. Did you paint the inside of the knife also? Makes me want to get busy doing one. They are very heavy for a utility knife. Happy 4th to you and your family! 👍🎉🇺🇸

I was surprised you coated the body with wd40 since the plan was to paint it. What did you use to strip off the wd40 prior to paint?? Also wondered if you primed the inside?
Do you think a small silica gel packet would fit inside the handle? I toss em inside all my toolboxes. I don’t know if it does anything, but I save everyone I get and put it in one of my toolboxes.
Thanks for watching! In real life there was about a week between the Evapo-Rust and the painting, so I protected the metal with WD-40. I cleaned the parts with denatured alcohol prior to painting. The inside was primed and then painted flat black.

Thank the tweakers for us not being able to buy good paint stripper or even Sudafed without a signature. Aircraft remover stripper was good stuff.....before now.

Hmm, that paint stripper seemed to struggle. Do you think that’s because red paint generally had a higher lead content?
I don't know what they put in red paint - it's always tough to remove. Lead, enriched plutonium, blood of Spartan warriors....
