Great job Magdad, my wife burst out laughing when you said Mrs Magdad rolled her eyes. It was a lot of work but definitely worth it. Cheers mate, Stuart 🇦🇺
Outstanding work Magdad! The screwdriver looks like it just came out of the store. The restoration of the flutes really does make it look good. Thanks for sharing this.
Wow! Incredible transformation. I love how you simply break down each step into easy bites to accomplish. It teaches us that we can tackle seemingly impossible restorations and achieve success. Thanks Magdad! (Oh - and Chuck!)
What a awesome transformation! I don’t know if I would let Mrs Magdad use it 😂. Great job Magdad! Thank You for sharing! Ok , I would really let her use it 😃
Used to have a little flea market shop inside a storage place with all sorts of items and tools. One day a customer told me he was looking for old wooden flathead screwdrivers, Glad he did because I would buy them cheap and just keep them for myself because they are so usable even when they look bad! Thanks to this video will try to restore a few now because that one looks great!
I like the way that you blended the gouge into the blade, looks great. The cap is a great idea, also. I will have to try some of that JB Wood Stuff on some of my projects. Well done!
Magdad, that certainly came out to be a nice project. If you think you overpaid , i would gladly give you twice your purchase price! Lol. I think the previous owner used that more for a paint stir stick than a screwdriver. Thanks for all the links to the products that you used. 👍🎥🇺🇸
Great job on the fluting. When you first drilled out the end of the hammer, i thought it was a goner. I was sure you would turn a new one. Great job rescuing it.
Unbelievable how far gone it was before vs after, great job. I could knot 😂 believe there was a knot in the handle! Great idea getting the twist out of the blade. I have a SAK with a little twist in the screw driver, Im going to give your method a shot.
You really went all out on this one mate. Turned out magnificent. That liquid masking is ideal for so many things. I first came across it when making models as it can be placed accurately. Still have a bottle in the shed. Been there for 20 years and still works!

Nice Job 👍 Magdad ! I Think It Came Out Nice . Definitely Worth A Buck . Good Use of the Rat Tail File. I Cleaned Up A Pair of 8" Channellock Needlenose Pliers I Got At My Local Flea Market Today For $2 . They Look Great . I've Found The Evaporust Even Works On Greasy Handles ! They Look Shiny Channellock Blue Now.
Superb job MD, that driver has to be worth a buck fifty in anybody's money now. But hey, there has to be fifty bucks worth of satisfaction in the outcome ! ✌❤ Bob.
I did pretty much the same thing to an old Mac Tools screwdriver I bought in 1968. Didn’t paint the handle, finished it with boiled linseed oil and wax.
Your wife sounds like my wife when come home with a handful of great finds at flea markets, all I say is that I could be doing a lot worse things!!!!!😂 BTW, screw driver came out sweet, beautiful job job sir.
The screwdriver looks terrific. I will have to get some of the liquid masking tape, very useful in the shop. I know the feeling of paying too much. I purchased a Yankee #41 push drill at a recent flea market visit for $3. When I got home after cleaning and closer inspection, I felt I paid too much. In another recent flea market, I picked up a North Bros Yankee #30 ratchet screwdriver in excellent condition for $1. No bits, but I will be making a bit with hex adapter. In this case I got a bargain. Dave.
Sadly no bits. I kick myself for not checking until I got home. I agree the bits are not cheap. The bigger disappointment is that this must be an earlier design, not spring mechanism to hold the bits. The collar is a screw design. I do not know what the original bits look like. There is a hole in the shaft to engage some detent in the bit, but not sure how this worked with a screw collar. Dave.
What an amazing transformation Magdad, great end result from an unpromising start, that flat black looks just the part ! I hope that Mrs Magdad has changed her view now ?
I became worried when I watched you making the longitudinal cuts with a hacksaw. I didn't think you could get the cuts on target or perfectly straight. But you pulled it off! I would imagine the circular file could correct for any minor deviations from straight, and cut to the depth you wanted. I know JB weld has a variety of products, but I did my own experiments and settled on epoxy with fly ash. Fly ash is available for about 30 bucks for a 70 pound bag. It forms a stiff paste that will adhere to flat, vertical, and even overhead surfaces. Truly amazing amounts of fly ash can be added to epoxy for amazingly thick pastes. I've used it recently to patch holes in a concrete sidewalk. It cures hard as a rock! I use System Three T-88 epoxy.
I like your method of getting the flutes back ... I've been stuck on using my 3/8 bowl gouge. And it just doesn't work. Even riding the bevel still follows the grain too much...
What no bombay Mahogany i am so disappointed LOL ....99% of people would have left that Screwdrive for junk but you and Mr chuck took the time and made a Rock Star out of that old beat up screwdriver nice job take care looking forward to next Sundays Video or maybe a fishing video ?????
Magdad, I look forward to Sunday morning knowing you will produce a great video. That screwdriver was worth a $1.00. One thing I don't understand is using a screwdriver as a chisel. I know that you can losen screws and free stuck hardware. But, in my mind it is abuse. Bob

Nice drawing Chuck. You helped MagDad very well.
Chuck is pretty handy with the CAD!
That was fun to watch, and learned something. Very cool.
I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Redoing that fluting was above and beyond! That was fantastic! Great job!

I have always liked those old square shanked common blade screwdrivers. Many were rarely used as such. Nice to see one saved.
Thanks Stephen!
Beautiful transformation. Those square bladed screw drivers are the bomb.

I saw Jess Buttery use it and knew I needed to try it!
