It's hard to believe how screwed up that beach has become since it's been commercialized. I remember going there when you could only get there by boat... it was much more peaceful and relaxing just 10 short years ago.

The vast majority of budget videos can be compared to wages in the same area & seen to be absurd. 100k peso a month is a very high end management wage.

Yes everyone has different ideas about budgets. My monthly budget for renting a house in large subdivision of $1200. Which includes food budget of $500 for my gf of 7 years. Then there other things to spend money on. I don't own a car or motorcycle. Prefer to live in cities for medical.

@Stevenhufnagel I wanted to live in Phillipines with my gf of 7 years. Europe was never on my scope.
I am living further up north and I am married and our third kid will be here in 6 weeks and we spend 170K PHP a month. Our rent is 16k php a month and electric is between 15-18k php a month. We could live off much less but that’s the budget that we’ve been at over the past three years.

@ our budget should be a lot less by next year because we’ve purchased almost all of the stuff we need for our home and we were spending a lot since we started off with nothing. I also agree with you about the car situation. I purchased a new Hilux Conquest a little over two years ago for $25k USD and it would have cost me around $40k USD in the U.S. I am still making payments on the Hilux but the loan is through Navy Federal Credit Union so the payments come out of my U.S. budget so obviously it would make my budget either go up here or I would be forced to spend less. Once I get my debts in the U.S. paid off our plan is to send more money here and put anything over 150K php into saving for a lot and to build our own house

The car we have picked is 751,000 php/58.4 php=$12,860.
The vehicle is a Toyota Raize.
3 colors to choose from, we picked the basic model-it’s a starter car for her to learn on.
And vehicles here get beat to death by everyone else. Meaning most damage will come from scooters hitting you, people sitting on your hood or just leaning and denting it. Kids taking metal or any object they can find and hitting/scrapping the paint of it. Be prepared not to loose your mind. Lol

Once you hit your mid sixties, health insurance in the Philippines becomes unaffordable, at least insurance that will actually cover major medical. Hospitalization and health care are much more reasonable in the Philippines than in the US so a smart expat would bank a little $$ each month to cover those expenses and self insure. If you are an expat that already has health issues or concerns, STAY IN THE US.

@vgwalldecals Nothing ventured, nothing gained. I would rather be here with my gf of 7 years. I already survived 8 days in private hospital with pneumonia. Paid total bill in cash. Best to save money for emergencies. Can't live by fear.
Budgets are very subjective,no two are the same i dont know why vloggers do them,just figure it out on your own,good video.

I think because they are very helpful. If the viewers take it that the video they are watching is exactly what their expenses will be are sadly mistaken. I liked them before I came because it gave me a good idea of what expenses actually are. I watched many and sure, everyone is different but it is still valuable information.

@@jimcunningham61 yet you see countless videos live like a king on 1200 in Philippines. Guess when i imagine living like a king i am eating steak and lobster. I live in a big house with many servants to clean cook etc. all things you can have in the Philippines much cheaper then usa but not for under 1200usd lol. I also live on 1200-1500 budget 3 years now. I sacrifice alot of the creature comforts of home washing machine and dryer automatic dish washer hot showers a good ribeye steak no car. However, i was able to retire at 43 years of age and enjoy life instead of slaving away till 67.

I think those videos got the wrong name, they should be monthly expense videos. They are showing what people spend per month. Budget videos are setting a certain dollar amount per category and seeing if you stayed within that budget or not. Most have more money than what they are spending each month. I also think there are expense videos that are very well done by showing all categories while others leave out a lot and making it seem that what they had shown is all they spend. I like them, but of course you have to realize where the person is living, what they chose to rent, etc., however it does provide a good insight on what someone "could" expect to spend each month.
We are 800 meters from the coast. 15 minute walk down to the beach and look across the Gulf of Leyte to the island of Samar.

I'm in Thailand but my opinion is a guy that managed his money well in the West will be fine. Guys that used CC's and had trouble managing their budget in the West will likely have issues in the East. I knows guys doing well on 7-800usd and I know guys running out of money every month on twice that.

Yep, boots on the ground is the best way to figure out what your budget will be.
But, TH-cam is actually a good way to work the numbers before heading out. Why? Because of exactly what you talked about in this vlog. Everyone is different, and you can't use someone else's numbers, if you have no clue as to where they live, how they live, what they spend on, do they drink & smoke, are they married, etc. Via TH-cam, you can get a pretty good idea of each vlogger's lifestyle - which is something you just cannot do when looking at cost-of-living numbers from a spreadsheet, a travel article, an old-fashioined blog, or a Facebook group.
However, it is necessary to watch cost-of-living vlogs from as many TH-camrs as possible, as well as several day-in-the-life vlogs from each TH-camr - which does take a lot of time. Watching only the cost-of-living vlog from a single TH-camr is pretty useless, since only some of his/her numbers will apply to your own situation and, without a lifestyle context, you won't know which numbers to use, which ones to ignore, and which ones need to be tweaked.
Anyhow.... that is why I find personal life vlogs like yours to be useful & informative, as well as entertaining. :)

My dad a retired butcher we stopped at a 150 peso lechon manok stand the guy goes chop chop my dad said yes the look of horror my dad gave as the shop owner bashed it with the clever. My dad after we walk away said we feeding this to ur stray cats. We stopped at jollibees and ate that night. Two days later though we stopped again. My dad first words was no chop chop. He carved it himself when we got back home lol. We both enjoyed bone shard free chicken that night.
