The original dance music scene, dance scenes come and go this has never left still going strong ask yourself why ?because it was that good and we know it !! The sound track of my late teens at 66 this was our scene never beaten never bettered , I dj on the current scene but my heart will always lay with the old 60’s and 70s , being from Wigan I spent much of my teens at the Empress station rd I moved away many years ago but sometimes these clips bring tears to my eyes remembering the best times of my life btw I was there this night when this was filmed we didn’t want the cameras then but I’m so pleased now that we did , finally many people on this footage are no longer here god bless them all
Love seeing my friend Keith dancing on here, his trademark tie he was wearing, he's still on the scene and frequents some of the club stuff in His home city of Norwich
I have tried contacting Granada and Tony Palmer, eventually I found out all the film at Granada went to Yorkshire TV when they moved buildings. YTV are slowly going through all the film and scanning and tidying it up including their own. At some stage in the future this may re appear looking better. I'm sure Casino veterans would pay to do it themselves if they were given access to the footage.
@@northernsoulsongs I use to go to civic hall soul nights in ormskirk in the 70s he was always there we kind of went out together for a bit I bet he won’t remember me now
@@northernsoulsongs I have the This Is England doc twice one has Tony Palmer giving commentary through the film i don't understand why this wasnt added as an extra. . But i do hope the footage can be restored one day . . . .
Old Northern Soul boy here from Nottingham, I was into this music before it became N.S. I also personally knew Paul Smith when his shop only opened 2 days pew week, before he became famous. He was never into N.S. and as far as I know he never went to an all-nighter. So why in a documentary abot N.S. is he pontificating about the subject. This only detracts from the films authenticity and credibility, also makes me question other authoritative speakers ( especially looking at their apparent age) I doubt if they were around at the time? Try Interviewing people who were actually there and you might have some credibility, another opportunity lost!
@drwhatson......I was there that night Dave [Iain, Nige and Graham all went to the Mecca but for some idiotic reason that I still don't understand - I decided to go to Wigan]. It was hideous - pure torture for over 8 hours]. I couldn't wait for it to end so I could escape back onto the coach and go home. I never ever went back - it was the very last time I set foot in Wigan Casino. From then on it was the Catacombs and Mecca every Saturday night.

Every time I went , always came home with more vinyl . It was part of the experience. Never left till 3 before 8 .
