I used to have sling TV. Then I moved on to TH-cam TV. I am using Philo TV now, and I am getting ready to cancel service because I'm always watching something on TH-cam, so there isn't any need to continue service with Philo. The only thing I will be paying for is my home internet. Once you get accustomed to the cord cutting, you will be just fine. Thank you for sharing.

Hey Michael it's gotten to the point that streaming applications have become as expensive as having a cable package. It's a shame how they played of the fact of so many people cut off their cable service. Some of the applications have raised prices more than $5.00 from the previous price. Even though I like streaming better than cable I didn't think it was going to as expensive or more expensive than a cable subscription. I have a Roku Ultra and 2 4K streaming sticks for my TVS. 😊

I finally dropped dish for OTA and free (mostly) steaming services. I’m 89 so I find a great many free older movies and old TV shows. Being old I just don’t care much for present live TV shows or most new movies. I’m fairly satisfied so far BUT, and it’s a big BUT for potential cord cutters, I sure miss the ease of using 1 provider (Dish). I especially miss the guide and simplicity of their DVR.

In regards to your new rule about subscriptions, I get it. And it no doubt would apply to me as well. However, a streaming user(e.g. newbie or less involved with content) who does not have as much exposure or as many encounters with streaming services as ourselves, it may be just too severe, as they may not have as much data to compare with.
On the other hand, those individuals might be able to achieve their 80/20 usage from just free content today... and need a similar "free" rule.
    Keep up the good work!

Thank you, I'm using YT TV and I like it a lot, but if the price goes up again then no. I had Sling which worked fine though at times it had a few glitches. But it didn't have local channels like YT TV does. I'm a soccer fan and YT has the USA, NBC, CBS and FS1 to watch and record games. I also have Peacock TV to watch Premier League matches, once the season is over I cancel it. Continue the great work on keeping us informed. Btw I just wish YT would let us delete recordings like Sling did.

Since I am on the Max Black Friday promotion I can watch NCAA March Madness on Max & CBS with an antenna. I will have MLB At Bat radio broadcasts & Marquee Sports Network during the Baseball season. The Live TV Streaming Services such as Sling TV or TH-cam TV will probably come just during the Baseball Playoffs.

The only thing I miss from cable tv are the cable news networks (and the dvr) but I'm not going to pay $40 a month on sling just to watch them. I set up an outdoor ota antenna and get many more local channels for free than I used to get with a cable (satellite) subscription. Since the big conglomerates own most of the content they've raised streaming costs to such an extent that the days of saving money by cutting the cord are mostly over. The big plus to streaming however, is that you can subscribe/unsubscribe at will.

I believe that TH-cam TV provides the best live TV experience. I have an eero Mesh WiFi network w/ nVidia Shield streaming boxes, plus a 4th Gen Tablo tuner connected to a $40 attic antenna (in the event of network disputes on TH-cam TV). I had 500mb fiber for $65/mo, but recently upgraded to 1gb fiber for only $50/mo. Yup, they doubled the speed and cut the price. Ironically, most of my current WiFi devices aren't capable of using speeds exceeding 500mb. Fortunately we have Gigabit ethernet in every room. My only gripe is that the excellent Logitech Harmony universal remotes have been discontinued as of a few years ago. :-(

    1. All YT transmissions are 720p max. I believe they are working on 1080p or 2160p but hav'nt seen any announcements yet.
    2. YT has recently upped its ad duration & frequency. Luckily they still provide the ability to quit an ad after the introduction.
    3. YT free movies used to ad free. I suspect they arn't any longer. Google is obviously trying to reduce it's deficits!
P.S. any chance of a low cost phone (flip & simple smartphone) plan update? I need extremely long standby duration (car glovebox storage).
    Thanks!

Thanks for watching. I don't have much experience with flip phones, but Motorola has some smartphones with great battery life. I've tested a few over the years. Are you looking for a light data plan? Red Pocket has some cheap annual plans that it sells on eBay. They use AT&T's network. Tello may also be worth considering for T-Mobile's network and they bill monthly. I like Visible and US Mobile for unlimited on Verizon's network.

It seems that if you 'cut the cord' and get a live TV service that you have just switched which cord your cable comes out of. Didn't cord cutting used to be about killing the cable package model?? Why pay for dozens of channels when you only want 4 or 5? It only took one baseball season for me to learn to live without those 4 or 5.

Are they responsive, available , helpful ? Can I get info on this Michael ...and would love to hear from current customers feedback. Thanks a bunch

The channels are mostly delivered in the same picture quality across all services, 1080p or 720p for some networks. 4K content is limited and some services charge more for 4K. All services offer customer support, but once you’re setup, how often do you plan to contact them? I can’t say any of them have amazing support. My hope is you don’t need to contact them at all. YTTV gets a lot of complaints because it has a callback feature but no number to call. Most of the others have a number. Chat support is another option. The problem with us getting rid of cable, is that even tho we live in a top 20 city, the part we live in does not get FIOS so the cable company and one other are the only choice…and if you only get wifi, then a streaming service, we’re paying just as much as we would be for cable+wifi on the same bill (and likely more because we’d have to go buy our equipment, etc etc.) I almost never watch the actual TV, usually just TH-cam or similar, but my husband likes it, and we won’t really save any money by getting rid of the cable. One of these days the world will be good and we can just buy individual channels that we want to watch that aren’t priced outrageously.

The carriage charges for local TV is a bunch of crap. Broadcast local TV should be FREE. If the FCC actually did their job and made the local channels broadcast a signal that was receivable in the DMA that they serve we would be able to receive it with a antenna. If they wanted to offer it over the internet in the DMA that they serv that could replace the need for proper broadcast transmitters. Broadcast tv is made to be profitable by selling commercial time.

95% of all antennas sold are either trash or fake. All antennas are digital. All antennas are analog. All antennas are 4k, 8k , 99k, 10000k including the antenna manufacturered in the 1900s that was on the titanic. No antenna can have a range over 80 miles. There exists no electronic device or booster that can increase the range of an antenna.

The problem is if you only have Internet for streaming you are probably paying more than just having dedicated cable. $50 Internet and $70 streaming $120 which isn't any different than old fashioned cable.

6:45 That’s not how networking infrastructure works. Routers are not specific to ISPs; they’re just network routers that manage networks. If you buy a Netgear router when you have Spectrum, there is zero reason whatsoever why it won’t work when you switch to T-Mobile Home Internet. However, it is good to note that with the rising commonality of free ISP-provided routers (and modems, for those using cable Internet as opposed to fixed wireless), a large percentage of home users really have no need to purchase their own networking equipment, since most people only have Internet service to access the greater Internet and web, and not to do any complex home or business networking, which is really the main reason to be buying your own network equipment anyway.

    • @MichaelSaves
      @MichaelSaves  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

Maybe I could have been more clear? The point was don't buy a gateway for Xfinity/Spectrum if you plan to switch providers to one that includes equipment. Also, when I switched from Xfinity to AT&T, I was not able to use the gateway that I bought. It was not an option. I have not tried hooking up my own gateway to the T-Mobile and Verizon boxes, but it isn't necessary since they are included in the monthly price.

I don't get your reasoning. You have to have internet to subscribe to TH-cam TV. The average internet cost is $50 a month. Adding TH-cam TV at the present cost of $73 a month is not cost effective at all. It would be way cheaper to get Spectrum cable/internet or Verizon Fios.

I am Dumping comcast Xfinity not only because they are now charging me $200.00 dollars a month ...but their customer service is nonexistent. Horrible. I don't want to subscribe to a streaming service that has shotty customer service.
