Athymhormia seems like a very interesting disorder. Why is it that certain people with the disorder respond to external commands but not to basic instincts of self-preservation? Very puzzling. On a sinister note, if a person like that can be commanded to "not die" by getting out of the pool, can they also be commanded to go against instincts of self-preservation (as in, jumping in the pool and drowning)?
That's an interesting, if slightly chilling, question - but I suspect that experiment would be extremely difficult to get through the research ethics review board, ha.
