      True. We use "bloke", as opposed to "guy" in the U.K. as well.

    Some of your examples are very rare. But you missed some too. For example: "Chuck a..." as in giving directions, chuck a left, chuck a right and chuck a uey.
    "gun" = the best, as in the gun shearer
    From Barry Humphries: "chunder"=vomit coming from "watch under" as you dash for the side of the ship in heavy seas.

    Very cute, but not all use these expressions are that widely used, but yes, shortening words are quite indicative of the (Aussie) culture. As Australia is known for its multiculturalism such expressions are not heard as often as would have been the case years ago as part of the common language or should I say (local lingo). It continues to change particularly since the late 1980s and 1990s onwards over time though I am sure some expressions will remain for years yet. Over the last 50 odd years due to the amount of North American media bought and shown by Australia media, some of the North American expressions and spelling are becoming part and parcel and in incorporated as some of the expressions used in Australia.

      They are heard outside the cities in the regional areas and outer suburbs where Australians fled after the Invasion

    • @christopherclarke3022
      @christopherclarke3022 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Invasion ????? What invasion are you referring to?
      The only invasion I am aware is white settlement for late 1700s on wards at the expense and attempted ethnic cleansing of the indigenous populations.

    I would give you two thumbs up if I could. I've never understood why the letter Z in Australia and the UK is pronounced "Zed." When I hear commercials for AN-Zed Bank, I feel like throwing a brick through the television. We go to the zoo to see zebras. They don't have any zedbras. Good video! :)

    This is hilarious. I'm a middle aged Aussie bloke and I was playing along. Pausing the vid before the Aussie chick answered. Most of them I answered the same as her. Maybe it's cause I'm from Brissy that our answers were slightly different. Regardless, I was laughing along with you both. I never realised how much we shorten words. Noice vid btw
