    Thank you so much, Ms. Elisabeth! I've been looking all over the internet for something that'll help inform me on my transition from America to Hillson. This was very informative and helpful. It is much appreciated and such a blessing!

    I'm currently living in Nashville, TN. I have this burning feeling like God wants me in Australia for this program. I'm scared that leaving Nashville and getting out of the music scene will hurt my chances for worship leading/ministry. Really conflicted here..

    • @elisabethbeemer
      @elisabethbeemer  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      DUDE! That was me 100%. I was going to head to California and start up my music career but other things happened. Honestly if you feel like you're supposed to be here then you should definitely come. You can only escalate with God and maybe there is something you need to work through and on before getting to where you want to be in your career. Plus, the best musicians need to master their craft. Even the bible says "play and play skillfully". If you want to talk more about it, I got you. I understand 100% where you're coming from.

    I liked your insight, interesting hearing an international student discuss a city in a country you live in and the church you have visited many times when living in Sydney.
    I would also add that Australia is expensive to live in. If coming from the USA (post covid pandemic) everything from food to clothing and so on is more expensive, though you can hunt for bargains.
    The opal card is great, Hillsong Church is not in central Sydney but out in the suburbs so I suggest google maps and study the Hills district and Sydney, they have been building a station to go from the area of castle towers shopping centre that will make it easier to get into the city areas.
    Travel from the airport on the train will cost you around $15 to the city, due to some privatisation thing.
    Sydney has a winter! Electricity is expensive so running the heating air con, or a fan heater all day is not recommended. And the same for aircon in summer. It will be cold enough to wear a coat or jacket, boots, beanie, scarf etc.
    Lots of sunscreen get the 50+ ( on the tube or container) UV is really bad between about 10-4pm in summer. For long term care of your skin ( Or you really don't want sun damage) sun baking is not recommended for very long, you can wear rashies and is acceptable to where a T-shirt swimming too- I did especially as a teenager and didn't sunbake through the hot NSW summers, now giving me beautiful skin in my middle years of life- make sure you have a broad rim hat caps are not enough if spending a lot of time in the sun. Drink lots of water.
    If going to the beach the ocean- surf is very strong in Australia and learn about rips, especially Sydney beaches for example Bondi. If travelling north up into Queensland for a break or holiday in summer the heat-UV is ++++, gets more humid the further you travel up the coast in Queensland.
    We love our coffee here cost anywhere from about $4.00 -5.50 (Australian) depending on the size or place you buy it.
    And I think Australia is great, relaxing and one of the safest countries in comparison to many others in the world.

    the make-up tip is the best tip! buy before you come!!, and also what you said about the sun, yessss! protect yourself, wear zinc, (invisible zinc is great and there are a few different brands) but honestly 50+ sunscreen. can confirm stylish people at hillsong, and at sydney i cant personally say i have good style though, and I'm here soo if you're expecting good style you're not going to get it from me. i can make you a pretty good coffee though

    not a hundred percent sure yet, but I believe God is calling me to help set up the Youth Group and church in Prague in the Czech Republic for a while, and then go to HC after that.
    I'm 16 and everything in life can be so scary, but I do believe God has a plan. this school seems super dope, and hopefully (if I go), I don't get tired of all the people since we'll be having chapel and stuff almost everyday haha

    I am planning on attending in 1 year and am interesting in pursuing the songwriting focus of the worship stream. 1.) When we audition for that, do we sing a composition without accompaniment, or are we supposed to play an audio version? 2.) When we audition for vocals, are we also singing without accompaniment? I'm fine playing keys for myself, but I was just wondering what to expect. And thanks so much for your video! I am 1 year out, but it feels like there are so many details to adhere to! @kristenkeith2103 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    THANK YOU FOR THIS!!! I'm hoping to attend HILC next January. A couple of questions tho, you mentioned coffee... Does there happen to be a Starbucks near your campus? Lol! Also, if I were to arrive perhaps a month early, are you immediately able to get into college housing despite the fact that it's early in January and there's no school?

    • @elisabethbeemer
      @elisabethbeemer  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey!! So basically there is a coffee shop at the school and at the shopping center across there are a few also. The coffee is amazing here. They take it very seriously. However, it's about $4 for a super tiny cup. What I have discovered (on the DL😂) is there is a gas station across from the school that sells pretty big cups for only $2. The nearest Starbucks is an hour bus into the city, sorry 😂!
      Accommodation wise, they only opened up housing like 2 days before school started for me. I doubt they will let you into to your house that early so I would recommend not going with college housing or renting an Airbnb. Otherwise, college students rent their rooms out when they go away on vacation so you should check the Hillsong Community page.

      Rent for college housing in the hills is anywhere from $149-$180. In the city it's a lot more. That doesn't include monthly water, gas, and heating bills which differ through house depending on what is used.
      If you don't mind it, I'd really recommend going with non college housing. They are super cheap and generally quite nice. People are offering up spaces all the time on the fb page.

      Mainly the campus isn't as nice in my option but everything is more expensive. It's nice because it's great access to the city which is about a 30minute bus where hills is.

    Out of curiosity how many people showed up barely able to play their instrument haha....I've heard that used to happen a lot there.

      I honestly have no idea:) I think people are pretty proficient in their instrument but we are all here to learn. I would recommend knowing basics.

    Hi Elizabeth! I am planning on coming to Hillsong January of 2018! Just curious, how much money would you suggest having when I get down there with all the preps and living costs. Also, is it hard to get a job while going to school there? Thanks for this awesome video!!!

      Emilee Grace Hey! I'm actually an ASL interpreter, thinking about going to Hillsong for a certification or something, since I'll have my Bachelor's soon. I would say that the best thing you can do is master the language while staying in the Word, so you can be well-equipped and ready to evangelize. It depends where you want to go with it too, so I'd be happy to DM you and talk some to help you figure out your goals 🙂

      Australia uses Auslan (Australian Sign Language). It is different to ASL. We use two handed fingerspelling for a start.

    Hey! Thanks so much for uploading this, it really answers a LOT of questions. I'm planning on attending the January 2017 intake and I was wondering what the college housing is like in the City campus? (Also, I'm 28 and I was wondering if that would be a setback for me).

    • @elisabethbeemer
      @elisabethbeemer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Age is absolutely no biggie:) For the city, they have quite nice apartments but I have only looked at them briefly so I'm not 100% sure what they look like.(ALSO, I would recommend hills all the way.)

    next year I'm coming also for songwriting and I've heard that I need equipment^^
    how can I choose the right equipment? and do you think it would be smart to buy it after I started college?

    • @elisabethbeemer
      @elisabethbeemer  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      What kind of equipment are you wanting? The school doesn't provide anything so everything you want, you should bring.

    hey Elisabeth your video is really helpful . I am planning for Jan 2017 in the stream of TV & media . I have few doubts .
    1.for how many days in a week that we are gonna have classes ?
    2. what are the accommodation facilities we have ,from college side and even of our own choice ,how much it's gonna cost ?
    sorry if over asked 😋

    • @elisabethbeemer
      @elisabethbeemer  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Arpan! Thanks for the question!
      You will have classes everyday except Friday, Saturday, and Sunday if you are first year. However you will be serving on Sundays.
      Housing wise, you can apply for college housing and it should be about anywhere from $100-$170/week. If you feel comfortable finding non college housing, that would be a good alternative and a lot cheeper.

I know it varies from person to person, but can you tell me if you look back after a whole year of college, how much you have spent including everything, flights, food, housing, tuition, visa, all of that. I want to have an ideia of how much I should have to be okay for my first year there.

    I was wondering if it was easy to get part time jobs while being a first year? I'm Rachel and I live in England. I'm looking at going to Hillsong College in a few years but don't know if I could afford it. The pricing is nothing in comparison to the English Universities so the opportunity is great but I know you have to pay upfront for Hillsong. Please help ?

      IT GET SO COLD! You wouldn't think it but i recommend layers and more layers. Also once you get here you should buy a hot water bottle or a heating blanket as there is no housing insulation and heaters are very expensive to run.
