  • Adrian Christopher Synnot Cole, the celebrated British author, was born in Plymouth, England, on July 22, 1949. His early years were shaped by a family sojourn in Malaya due to his father's military service, which instilled in him a passion for the fantasy and science fiction genres. Influenced by literary classics like Tarzan and King Solomon's Mines, as well as cinematic marvels such as "Earth versus the Flying Saucers" and the original "Classics Illustrated War of the Worlds," and the works of Algernon Blackwood, Lovecraft, and Dennis Wheatley, he developed a deep-rooted love for the extraordinary.
Adrian Cole's literary journey began when he discovered "The Lord of the Rings" while working in a public library in Birmingham. This masterpiece inspired him to craft his own epic, the "Dream Lords" trilogy. His writing career expanded to encompass ghost stories, horror, and fantasy, leading to the publication of four novels in England. Notably, his captivating tales received recognition in prestigious collections, and his editorial talents shone through in curations. Beyond his literary pursuits, he held various professional roles, including that of a librarian and an educational administrator.
Among his many literary contributions, one particularly intriguing story, "The Horror Under Penmire" (1974), stands out. In this chilling tale, the protagonist, Phil, embarks on a quest to locate the mythical town of Penmire in remote Cornwall, following a plea for help from his friend Roy. However, upon his arrival, he finds Roy missing, and the locals deny any knowledge of his whereabouts. Unfazed, Phil stumbles upon Roy's mysterious notations, one of which alludes to the ominous name "Dagon," a reference that resonates profoundly with fans of H.P. Lovecraft's work. This narrative weaves a web of suspense and Lovecraftian intrigue, adding another layer to Adrian Cole's multifaceted literary career.

I think I have shared this story here before, about Luxylian valley in Cornwall near Bodmin moor. I was driving under the haunted aqueduct where we stopped - myself, my brother in law, his girl and my wife. We didn’t hear any ghosts or anything and dawn was just coming up.
So we drove on to Luxylian valley to try and get home, we drove around for ages and ages and kept coming back to the aqueduct. We started to panic a little, so decided to turn right into the other way and ended up driving though the village.
As we drove we looked for someone to speak to and ask directions, even though it was a summers morning about 5am. All we saw as we drove were cats, sitting on walls, at the end of gates, on the road and everywhere. All these cats looked almost like people going about their business and they all turned to look at us. My wife is somewhat of a natural empathic sort of psychic and shouted out that these were the villagers as they were all actually cats.
It did seem extremely odd, for so many cats to be out, no humans and the weird staring eyes of the cats. Even me, sheer skeptic that I am started to get a little flustered - and I couldn’t drive quickly as I definitely didn’t want to hurt any cats. We eventually got to the end of a lane and there was literally a parliament of cats looking at us in half a semi circle blocking the road.
A large white cat, all white with red eyes was at the front.
I stopped and nerved myself up as we all stared - I wound the window down and popped my head out and said politely to these cats “I’m sorry but I’ve taken the wrong turning and ended up in your village and I’m very sorry to disturb you. I don’t mean any harm and I would just like to leave, please” I went to private school and so do really speak like that.
Of course they all parted and left, like cats do, nonchalantly and in no hurry at all. I then drove ahead and we went straight out of the village and into Luxylian road and on to St Austell. When we got home we did discuss the incident, the really funny thing is that my wife’s memory of the incident has faded, even though she was the one who twigged that they were all villagers who become cats.
Luxylian valley is well known for being a very strange place, which is why we had gone to see as many young folk do the haunted viaduct and look for ghosts. But this story is true, a real experience of mine. I like to rationalise it with lack of a GPS, bad map reading, the fact it was early morning and they were probably just a lot of cats who were very friendly in this village. Its easy enough to do this, as nothing specifically paranormal occurred that can’t be sort of explained. But for me who experienced this, it was a truly frightening encounter with a familiar world but one which had pulled the covers back a little and showed what’s underneath.
I thought I would add this again, as its truthfully a genuine story. Plus lots of people go down to Cornwall and so if you do then suggest you pay a trip to Luxylian valley and see what’s you can.

The only thing you could have done better is to tell them that they have pretty butts. I'm not kidding, cats love it when you tell them that. Cats love this more than telling a woman she looks as though she has lost 10 pounds. Try telling the next cat you come across "You have a very pretty butt" and see if he or she doesn't look ridiculously pleased.

Great narration! The pic is terrifying. I'm terrified of frogs. I grew up on an island and we had an open drain that ran across the side of the yard carrying wastewater from the kitchen to the garden. Frogs loved the drain.
As a teen, I snuck out one night wearing a ridiculously short skirt and when i got home i had to sneak in through the kitchen door. As I got close to the drain my mom turned on the kitchen light and i ducked down to hide, and a massive warty ugly frog jumped on my leg and started climbing. I couldn't scream because it would have alerted my mom so I was kicking and stomping like mad to get the monster frog off my leg. It was awful 😱. Just thinking about it makes this story even more terrifying.

Very Lovecraftian! Though the language and story was easier to understand than one of Lovecraft’s! Not an “eldritch” in earshot. All the elements were in place: jaunty adventurers in search of a mysterious secret village, hostile townsfolk, ancient monster, noxious odors, sacrifice-you know. All the good stuff! Good grief who the heck complains about your sound? It’s great! And I love the homey addition of the doggies wrestling on the floor. It makes it like we’re listening to a fireside story, always a lovely atmosphere for scary stories! It’s hard to believe you’re 62, you have a beautifully melodic and sonorous voice. I would’ve said mid-40s. Thank you!

Excellence! All of it, the story, the narration, after words (I made "after words" up just now 😀). This story is full of Lovecraftian influence and I love the references to King Arthur, who I believe did exist, I think there is always a little truth in a legend.
Perhaps, it's also a cautionary tale for someone who may or may not be me, who might want to do something silly, for example, searching an isolated part of Wales for a dragon that may still exist. Wings, fiery breath and all.

Some people have those soundproof booth thingies,,,

    • @TwilightCreation
      @TwilightCreation 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@ClassicGhost No way?! Mi oroty interest? I can't believe that. Maybe because it isn't ghost related? It would blow up in a group of Anime fans as it reminds me a bit of Sword Art Online which I am very much love and recommend you have a watch if you are a fan of Anime. It also takes place in an online game where the players are sucked in and forced to play for their lives.
I wonder if I could get your permission to narrate one of them? I am going to get back into narrations ( VoxNocturne is my narration channel that I have sadly neglected for a few years now.) and would be honored if you let me narrate any of your stories. I am going to start using sfx audio software for character voices in addition to sound fx of the environment (foot steps, gun shots, and the like). I will send you an email incase this comment gets lost.
However I would like to once again state how much I truly enjoy your work both your own storied and your narrations. I also really like your commentary and chit chat at the end. Please don't change that due to some sourpusses who complain without contributing any useful criticism.

One of these entries was the finding of a man wh had drowned in Frogs !!!!! they found something unexplainable but recorded it. "There is more between Heaven and Earth than is dreamed of in your philosophy, Horatio" according to "Shake - Speare" {not Shaksper the actor} .
