  • Would you be okay with grocery shopping at a store with a corpse behind the walls for 10 years? In today's video we are looking at how an employee went missing in a supermarket for 10 years before the body was discovered. This story could have been an accident or was something more sinister at play?

From the area. That store had been closed for years at the time of the discovery. No health inspections in random abandoned buildings. Only reason they were finally getting dismantled in 2019 was because someone finally purchased the property, and those coolers were not needed for what they planned to do with it, so they were ripping them out.
Additionally the video seems to have misunderstood which cooler's they were by having the animation be front of house display coolers (movable), when in fact the body was found in the hot-side ventilation gap of the backroom industrial freezer units, which are the size of entire rooms and cemented into the actual foundation of the building. Which is also why the rotting body stench wasn't discovered. Any offgassing of his decomposing body during the time he was there while the store was open was pretty much immediately vented to the outside of the building and never really got to anywhere that any person would have ever been.

Ive worked in several stores, obviously we have all been to many stores. Behind the coolers in some stores can be pretty loud. It could cancel a yell. Especially if you take into consideration, say he hurt his rib area on his fall so it hurt him to try and scream. Which it would be rather hard to be louder than a loud cooler.
However, the smell plus not cleaning an area for years or maybe even never cleaning an area is ridiculous. I actually got fired from a gas station for "cleaning to much" because I found mold and threw 40-50 products away instead of putting them on shelves.

I have the answer for how he went unnoticed for ten years. People are probably asking "How did no one notice the smell?" Or "Did the huge plume of flys tip no one off?" Or " Wouldn't the puddles of liquefied person seeping from underneath the coolers aroused suspicions?" . Heres the answer. Those coolers back panels pump out heated DRY air. The other end of an AC is effectively a dehumidifier. As such being trapped in the tiny space with dry heat blowing on him every minute of every day effectively mumified him, and did it so quickly that his body didn't have alot of time to decay before enough moisture was wicked away that he essentially became jerky, which over time the roaches would have nibbled away at untill bone and sinew were all that was left.

I believe there is no way he was back there for a long time and must have died on impact or shortly after. I have a few reasons. 1: Supermarket coolers can get loud, but loud enough to cover human screams? Probably not. 2: If they were too loud, the area behind he coolers is 99% where the coolers are plugged in. He could have aimply unplugged them so people can hear him. 3: In the off chance that thats not where the coolers were plugged in, he could have simply banged on the coolers or moved them, pushed them over. The chance that he broke his neck or suffered a fatal injury upon landing is far greater than him being stuck alive behind them. It could have been a suicide attempt, too. But if he were trying to commit such an unfortunate action, i feel as though hed pick a more effective way than sitting behind a cooler at his job.

He could not have done most of the things you described. It was 18 inches wide from wall to cooler. The coolers themselves were 12 ft. tall. 18 inches is not much space to move at all. The average human body is 10 inches wide , front to back. Some average torsos are 18 inches themselves. If you fell head and/or arm first, you could not move much or get any leverage, especially if you had an arm pinned behind or in front of you. I also think it unlikely he died from the fall, especially if there were cords or plugs that could have slowed or entangled his fall.

I grew up with a parent that worked in a grocery store and worked at one myself. In a small enough town/store, there is no CCTV, those big coolers are only moved when they need serviced or replaced, and depending on the kind of machine, age, etc, they can get pretty loud, but they don’t run at full blast all the time, meaning they do have quieter moments, so I have to imagine he probably did land on his head, which would explain how no one heard him. What I can’t understand is how no one smelled him at any point. I can’t imagine that would have been pleasant, as the back side of those machines can actually get pretty hot if there was a motor on it, unless the motor was elsewhere, but that’s unlikely. So the heat from it would have sped up decomposition, and there is nothing I can think of that would have prevented that smell from being noticeable. That’s what baffles me the most.

It doesnt strictly work that way. He might have run out of the house in a panic, into the snow storm, and they lost him. He had already been to the doctors fairly recently, perhaps he hid it from them or didn't want to discuss it.
I will admit I am quite as baffled as you are, but perhaps the parents did call the police, or for some help, but he got so scared by them insisting that he needed help, that he ran off into the snow storm.
Psychosis can cause extreme paranoia, as can schizophrenia. Often sufferers of this disease become convinced that those who are trying to help them are against them. I have psychosis, in some of my episodes, I became utterly convinced that my life was in serious danger from those around me. Thankfully, my family knew the indicators I was displaying for what they were, and helped me stay safe.
I suspect that the family did not know these indicators, and so missed them. Very few will pick them up if they have not come face to face with them before, especially if they are relatively subtle. Like with other mental illnesses such as anorexia, sufferers of mental illness can be very good at hiding their problems, usually out of fear.

I worked there right out of high school (mid to late 1990's) and had to say that it was the big walk-in storage cooler deep in the back room of the store, not the coolers out in the middle of store. I have been on that cooler myself. The store smelled like a rotting corpse for years after he went missing. Cleanliness was (In my opinion) was not at all a priority there.
Since it was in the furthest part of the backroom, there weren't many people who would have been back there to hear his screams nor was there video recordings because security for the longest time there was barely a room in the upper floors of the store behind one-way mirrors, which hardly anyone manned anyhow.

I agree. Which probably means he died instantly from the fall (although I find this debatable, considering it was only 12 ft -- that's pretty much like falling off the roof of your house at eve height. It's happens dozens of times to people with only minor injuries). I've been around some noisy refrigeration sections before, but nothing so loud that it would drown out the screams of a trapped person behind them. He could've banged on the backside of it, etc. There's simply no way a person could remain trapped back there.
On the other hand, it's also possible that he deliberately chose to drop down into the space given his mental state. He may have simply spent the following week there completely cut off from reality as he experienced a full blown hallucination. In this case, he would've eventually starved to death and/or died from dehydration in about a week.
I find it curious that his odd behavior started only shortly after being prescribed medications. Certain meds that are normally meant to treat schizophrenic symptoms can sometimes have the opposite effect, worsening the problem.

I remembered a boy (in 70's or 80's in Chicago) was reported missing during the winter, everyone thought he was kidnapped on the way to school. The parents were frantic offered to pay a ransom, anything. In the spring they found his body, he was right outside the front door. It was an especially snowy winter that year, all they could figure was he misjudged where the stairs for the porch were, because there was no hand rail. He stepped off the porch into a large snow drift, got stuck, and froze to death unable to escape the deep snow drift. It snowed all day, and covered up any evidence as to what had happened to him.

This is why they should have had handrails if it snows like that there. Hind sight is always 20/20. Very sad.

Both my mother and brother have worked there in the past. In fact my mom worked there all the way up until it closed. My brother only worked there about a year or so before any of this could have happened. She was just a cashier though, so never had a reason to be in the back of the store where this was.
Not going to lie, I'm surprised to see this story on youtube narrated so well with this many views. This was a very creepy news story and a shock to everyone around who used to go there. The building is now being used for a different business.

@frank 12 Possibly not sizes, but human and pig decay are extremely similar. They might have not smelt it because of all of the foods in the freezer, or eventually got so used to it that they didn't even notice. But there's a lot of holes in this story.

I worked in the grocery industry for years and have seen many stores that did not clean behind or under spaces for extended periods of time (years). I could totally see this happening. There are spaces in stores where people just never go. Sad to hear about a loss of life, but the story was pretty feasible to me.

No Frills (the store mentioned) in rural towns in my area have cameras, at the front and the cash. They'd see him come in and if he left. If small towns have cameras I'm sure most do because it's a large company.
They should have checked the footage of his workplace before 30 days (or 10 years) to see if he was there and if he left.
