But they were still large and had a short battery life. My father had a "bag" phone in the 1990's. This was decent, but it was useless unless you put an antenna on the roof and plug it into the "cigarette lighter". Late 1990's, he got the legendary Nokia 3320. That was glorious. He loaned it to me and my brother when we went to School events (like out of town games). Having a cell phone then was not exactly "cool", most thought my parents were being weird by giving it to me. At my school the perverts would just kidnap kids one at a time

I'm so glad this story has a happy ending
I bought the book about this incident gor $1 in 1985 and just wore it out. Back then there was no onternet and microfiche was nauseating. It is sad that California and the Feds failed the survovors and the community.
God rest Ed's soul. A good man with a good heart.
I mean most people would do the same things he did, very few people would just not comfort the children at all
This straight up sounds like a climactic part of a Breaking Bad episode
on God
Walker, Texas Ranger did an episode on this. Never knew it was a real event.
I know I've heard this story before, but I would have sworn they died. So glad that that's not the case. Mike and Ed are absolute stars
I was scared that trailer was gonna give in and the kids buried alive.. that ending relieved me. The parents should have sued the inheritance from that pos.
"Haha I'm in danger!"
-Every kid in that bus.
Yelp
Lol
LOL
Kidnapping even one child is a horrific thing to do. But kidnapping 26 and then burying them alive!? 😨🤬
That is a NEW low!
Credits to mike and ed for keeping the children safe and getting out alive !!!
A hero
These men had plenty of fun in prison. You don’t mess with kids people
ed and mike are heroes fr i'm so happy to know that nobody died
Wow, everything dealing with the production of this video was perfect. Timing, animation, pace, organization, story telling, and the voice over! Great job! Subscribing.
One of the main reasons I love this channel is that I always get to know about stories I haven't heard before
Oh thank God! They all survived...smh That man deserves to be honored!!! I pray he properly was.
My dad was one of the kids on the bus, he was stuck for 3 days and it is interesting how people are still talking about it. It has been decades.
What is your dad's name?
@@evanhsieh I guess the world will never know
I smell some major cap here
Sure💀
Name?
I'm sure that is partially why company's put GPS on these now. Also, a good reason for children to have cellphones in the case of an emergency that the adults can not handle.
Yelp
10-4 good buddy remember keep on trucking and keep the rubber side truck driver
Well this was 1976, so the technology did not yet exist.
@@Gilhelmi it existed, but very few people had it
@@好吧-h6k Only the extremely wealthy, and it only worked in a very small number of places. As I recall, they were large enough that you had to install it in a car. Technically, only as portable as a car. (can you take your car inside a building? lol) Most people did not know that they existed.
By the late 1980's, they were almost "truly" portable.
(Times do change, LOL)
Sorry, got distracted there. Memories of School.
imagine the sheer pride (and terror) of being the one that saves the group.
In the 4 months I've been watching this channel I've leaned about more insane stories then I thought ALL was possible...Thank you IGS. My brain expands with every upload.
They come from wealthy familys and still want to make money? Lol.
Thought the same. It may have been easier for him to just steal from the parents. Surely if they can plan this they could find a way to do that
I was wondering the same thing. If they are so wealthy why do this for money? It does not make sense.
I think I remember from another iteration of this story that they had gambling debts, possibly to people you would not want to owe 5 cents to.
Often they get an alliwance but it's not enough for their tastes. Some greedy richkids have murdered their parents rather than wait for their inheritance
I saw another video on this topic apparently they were in a debt of 2.5 million they asked for 5 million so that they will not go into debt again
So nice to hear that in the end they managed to escape and find safety after all they had been put through
not gonna lie, I was expecting the children and Ed would die but thank god all of them managed to survive in the end. Kudos to Ed and Mike too for managing to still be calm in the midst of it all. F to those three men. they should have just rot in prison for traumatizing those children
this is one of the craziest things ever. much love to Ed & Mike for getting everybody out ♥️
Oh my, the poor children and bus driver. What a terrible situation to be in!
This is insane, Mike is a legend
The bus driver is also cool
they are epic and cool
Mike should get a medal IMO.
As a bus driver this scares me and I'm soo glad they were all ok in the end
Learn something new everyday!! Which is why I watch this channel everyday !! Never knew this
Every time my child is put on a bus I pray for a safe return sending our children away in this crazy world you have to stay prayed up. Thank God those babies escaped.
With phones everywhere these days a plot like this wouldn’t last 10 minutes before failing.
I believe that's *Menlo Park.
What an amazing story!! Thank you so much for sharing it.
This guy never fails to upload
This guy is a whole production team
I remember reading about this years ago and seeing a Criminal Minds episode inspired by it. Great animated re-enactment, but the only thing is you were way off with the perpetrators ages at the end. One of the brothers was in his late 50s when he was paroled, the other got out in his early 60s and the last one will be 72 for his next parole hearing.
What compels people to do things like this.. can't wrap my mind around it..
I actually remember a Lifetime movie about this. I remember watching it and often thought back on it when riding the bus
Richard Schoenfeld was paroled in 2012 at age 57. James Schoenfeld was paroled in 2015 at age 63.
Mike and Ed should have been awarded for their bravery.
I’m really glad that all got out safely. I hate stories like this when kids get hurt of die
I believe most of us can't let a second without watching Infographics's videos.
Ed is a great example of "Not all heros wear capes"
HEY INFOGRAPHICS!!! The guy who does the narrating in this one.. is the one who should do ALL of them! Whenever I click one of your videos and hear someone else.. I just click off of it. This guy is number 1
He does do all of them. There was another dude about 3 years ago.
Same here. That other dude was just bad.
@@john_blues He wasn't that bad but just didn't have the right broadcaster voice.
@@djbeezy His readings make the videos unlistenable to me.
@@john_blues Yeah, I kind of agree. It depends on the topic. But it's only been this guy for at least 3 years.
Investigation discovery has a great episode of one of their shows on this incident. It includes an interview with the older kid who saved them all before they were crushed. A remarkable story!!! Mass kidnappings do happen but are rare for obvious reasons...
Oh thank god, the way you worded it made t sound like the children died. Ed is a true hero, keeping his cool and helping them out.
I REMEMBER THIS STORY like my mom was friends with the oldest kid in the bus in summer
Not enough people talking about Ed. He did good for his age and experience
Imagine being absent that day and coming back to see 26 people missing
I've heard so many stories of serial killers, mostly due to creepypasta narrators on TH-cam who are now starting to read IRL stories about real murders.
THIS story is possibly the worst story I've ever heard. This is the most horrible and evil thing I have ever witnessed.
Then, you haven't heard enough....
Thanos though
You did not “witness” this. And you are either very young or very uneducated to think _this_ is the height of “horrible and evil”.
@@Thurston86 Endangering children is “evil” by the book to a large amount of people. I don’t see how thinking that makes you young or uneducated. Sure it can’t compare to other things. But it is both horrible and evil nevertheless
Keep it up on your work and this channel
Listen this one had me at the edge of my seat. I’m in my kitchen clapping for the kids and all. Great documentary friend. 👏🏾👏🏾
This was one of many reasons my mom made sure my brother and I had self-defense training. As well as drilling us on escape and evade tactics.
Of course with my little brother's multiple mental problems meant it would only really be a matter of waiting till his meds ran out for him to drive the kidnappers absolutely insane and create an opening for me if it had ever happened. Thankfully it never did... but the drills were actually kind of fun.
I mean the kidnappers have guns there's basically nothing you can do
@@firenation2030 actually certain black belts have training to defend against people with guns
Great mom!!!
@@Bleepbleepblorbus seriously? it takes no training to hold a gun to someone and even less to pull the trigger. they’d be 6 feet under if they challenged them
@@SuperBaddlyAwsome have you never heard of tar before? That stuff builds up in guns when don't clean them
And since bullets are launched by gunpowder in the bullet shell
The gas created from the explosion in the shell it goes backwards because of the tar
That's not even counting
-death of shooter by malfunctions
-death shooter by not carrying the gun in a safe direction
-death of shooter by dropping a gun on the ground and getting shot by the gun
-death of shooter by the wrong type of ammunition/barrel/gun attachment (or even all three)
-death of shooter by suicide from PTSD after surviving a gunshot
The list goes on and on and on
