    Just bought a 1983 Mustang GT Convertible. I'm an 80s kid who loves these cars but took the plunge to buy one that is rust free! These cars are coming up in value now. Buy one now prices are is still affordable compared to the earlier years which are very expensive to buy for most of us. Great video it took me back to a fun time growing up bringing back memories, thank you!! 🙂

    I'm so happy to see a video on the Fox Body. I am a big fan of the smooth styled late 80s models, along with the horsepower and speed of the legendary 5.0. Fox Bodies have begun to gain popularity as collector cars and value has been increasing more in recent years. I love the sound of a 5 speed manual with the 5.0. Interestingly, the Fox Body Mustang and the C3 Corvette are the longest lived generations of American cars, with both having 15 years of life.
    I'm waiting for Ford to come out with a modern version of the late 80s/early 90s Fox Body as a next generation Stang, very much like what they did with the 2005 as a modern version of the 1965.

    The Fords expense control freaks had too much power and sandbagged it. The biggest issues were:
    1. Too small of brakes and lack of rear disc brakes with the exception of the SVO. If Ford tried a little bit harder rear disc brakes could have been an option.
    2. 4 bolt hubs which limited buyers choices for aftermarket wheels, and upgrades to 16”, 17” or larger wheel diameter.
    3. Jitterbug rear 4 link suspension which really needed a panhard bar or something to keep the rear axle from lateral movement.
    4. Reinforcements to the floor pan under the front seats. In 1987 or 1988 the seat in my 79 Indy Pace Car had started leaning. I looked underneath and the floor pan was cracked really bad. A friend from work welded it up for me.

    • @patsfan8057
      @patsfan8057 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, they really blew it. When they discontinued th SVO, it would have been a no brainer to transfer the parts to the GT. One reason I hate Ford for doing that even though I drive a Foxbody.

      Luka doncic is better than lebron james , 🐎🐎🐎🐎 you’re speaking of the SN95 4th Generation. Yes, it was a nice save for the brand. Otherwise we would’ve gotten the Probe. I think all years are nice, including the Mustang II - Tofer helped me improve my opinion about that one 🤣

    • @xrmerkur
      @xrmerkur 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Luka doncic is better than lebron james , beauty is subjective and in the eye of the beholder. I tend to have a greater affection for rare misunderstood vehicles like the XR4Ti for example. I guess I like the underdog. When a car goes through a transition it’s sometimes painful to watch, but history shows it served a valuable purpose. In spite of all the famous Mustangs in history to celebrate, the SVO is the one I cheer for.
      PS. Thanks for the back and forth, its been fun 😁

    Like most of your videos, this is great quality content and nothing short of impressive. You've come a long way since the first video and I applaud you for it.
    The only thing I would add is some kind of narrative at the Mustang vs Probe's scene describing what was the reason for Ford sticking with the Mustang instead of replacing it with the Probe. I know, lots of angry letters sent to Dearborn as well as Mustang fans rushing to the dealerships. There was a whole plot around it.
    That would've been the 🍒 on top.

    The Boss is back, that was awesome. I was 15 and test drove a new red 82 GT at Powel Ford in Ft Lauderdale, Fl. The salesman told me it was a virgin and to take it easy, since it only had 5 miles on it. I didn’t care tho, hell I didn’t have a license yet, just a full beard. I dumped the clutch out of a side street and hit a puddle and tank slapped it 4 or 5 times because I was too invincible to let off. It’s funny watching a salesman, go back and forth across the rear seat, in the rear view mirror. If you weren’t around then or not a car guy, you wouldn’t understand how odd it was to be able to do a burnout in a car off the showroom floor, without going in reverse first😜. The Mustang II saved the pony car but the Fox Mustang is probably single handedly responsible for 700 hp cars of today. Ford started making power while keeping emissions low. I know 160 hp doesn’t sound like much but it was a big step up from the 255 V8. We haven’t gone backwards since. The current Hp wars started in 1982 and have been going on for almost 40 years now.

Mustang could be configured so many ways it's pretty hard not to find one variant that would please everyone. Today's vehicles with one style, minimal wheel selection, one interior color and only drab exterior colors......blah. if we could put today's engines and drivetrains into the fox Mustang style and choices would be awesome

Asked dealer what happened and he said they were having trouble with the Turbos, so it was a regular 2.0 four cylinder! Told dealer I didn’t want that. Wow, this is really good work here. Kudos.
    I’m too poor to afford it, but I’d love a 66 GT fastback K code car.
    I’m not a huge fox body fan, but I really liked the ASC McLaren bodied cars.

    I was always a blue oval guy and wanted a mustang ,,bought a 76 mustang 2 . Liked to turned me away but the 79 Indy pace car came out and I bought it . Had when I was married and loved it. 5.0 two barrel but light enough to be respectable in the day

    I like the Mustang II, and yes it did save the Mustang, otherwise the Mustang would be dead. I love the razor hubcaps in 1983. Ugh Superman IV. Fox Mustangs looked great in yellow.

    Thanks' for the video, it helped me understand my 1984 LX convertible as it has the 5.0 HO engine but it's the EFI/auto, it says that it was an option over the standard 5.0 4bbl / stick , the car was also ordered in Triple White and all power trim.

    Great video! Just one very minor correction, when you say in 1991 "The GT Model received 5 spoke 16" wheels." All V8 models did. I bought my 1991 LX 5.0 2 door in September of 1990 with the 5 spoke "Pony" wheels, identical to my older brother's GT. The best car I ever owned!

    5.0 was the car you bought after high school when you got your first good job and your parents only wanted 100$ a month for rent and food :-) Ahh,cruising the avenue on the weekend with your friends,trying to throw that "E",while drinking the sophisticated wine coolers or the ultra bad-ass Milwaukees Best. (don't drink and drive) Good times...
