- Phenomenal film and performances all around. I had no idea what to expect from this and was blown away. 10/10
p.s. did NOT expect a Goblet of Fire reunion haha
In Bruges (2008) starring Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Ralph Fiennes, Clemence Poesy, Jordan Prentice and Thekla Reuten.
Directed by Martin McDonagh
For anyone curious, the dream sequence clip I used, it's from the film Living in Oblivion (1998), an old favourite of mine. If you like weird indie films, you'll love it! It stars Steve Buscemi, Catherine Keener, Dermott Mulroney and Peter Dinklage
Stay tuned next week for a Guy Ritchie favourite: RocknRolla 😎
It requires an especially dark sense of humor, but this is one of my favorite movies of all time.
Not gonna lie, when I was editing I actually had a moment where I was like, damn should I be laughing at this lol but then I remembered the people watching this probably share the same sense of humour 😎
@@chrissiereacts This movie was written and directed by famous playwright Martin McDonagh who has made several movies. This one is my favorite, but I would highly recommend Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri which he is probably most known for, it was nominated for a probably should have won Best Picture in the stupid shape of water year.
@@rextside Seven Psychopaths is my favourite McDonagh film. And his plays are fantastic.
lollypop man is essentially a crossing guard they carry poles with stop symbols on them that look like big lollypops so that became their name
Ha ! Lol, i literally pictured an Oompa Loompa in my head and thought that they didn't remember the name and yet understood each other perfectly, or maybe that they couldn't use the name for copy right reasons. Now i feel silly. Thanks for clearing that up for me :)
That actually makes a lot of sense. Thanks!!
I imagined some random candy shop owner.
If I'm being *completely* honest, I imagined the person pushing the trolley on the train to Hogwarts
Most are at the least, 2nd degree black belts in bottle karate. It's a requirement.
15:30 "you're an inanimate f*cking object!" 😆
It shouldn't be funny, but it's just so real!
For years after seeing this movie my friends and I would occasionally just be like "I'm sorry I called you an inanimate object" out of nowhere and burst into fits of giggles.
I use this more than I should...
This movie has such an incredibly specific tone, like a dream sequence...on horse tranquilizers.
It makes me happy to see people watch it all these years later.
Alcoves?
You're the first person who managed to put into words exactly how I felt after watching this movie, bravo
Absolute masterpiece of a film. One thing that people often miss is how the the scene in the museum, where they are looking at The Final Judgement painting, is referenced back to at the end, on the the film set with all the bizarre characters.
The 'Do I have to?' exchange never fails to crack me up.
Superb film, great writing with acting to match.
"It's Jesus' fookin blood isn't it? Of course you don't fookin HAFTA" 😂
Seven Psychopaths, The Guard and The Banshees of Inisherin should be watched.
The Guard and The Banshees of Inisherin are amazing!
But why not Three Billboards outside Ebbing Missouri as well? Frances McDormand is great, and it's another Martin McDonagh movie.
@@LethalWalou Kind of forgot about that one to be honest! But yes, another great film.
@@Jim-fd9jz Easily forgotten as it's a murican one instead of Irish, so no worries.
@@LethalWalou No, not at all! It's just that I have only seen it once when it came out.
One of my top 3 films. It’s the perfect blend of action, comedy, and tragedy wrapped up in exceptional performances by all involved.
And the, “You’re an inanimate fucking object!” still cracks me up more than it really should.
What, prey tell - are the other two??
@@dancarter482 Joe Versus the Volcano, probably the existential film in a digestible package ever made-definitely the most existential romantic comedy.
The Wizard, but that’s a purely sentimental reason. Not to mention, writing an analytical essay on how it dissects the modern nuclear family structure got me into NYU film school. I owe that film a lot, which is crazy considering it’s basically a 90 minute commercial for Nintendo. Lol
You need to watch better films lol 😂
I don't know for you, but for me that scene hits hard not cos of seeing the graphic death of the boy, but because of Colin Farrells performance. Seeing him see that knowing he is responsible he draws you into that horrifying moment much more than anything, to the point where the boy doesn't even need to be on screen for it to be just as effective.
The scene really sells the impact of ending a life via the contrast: the priest was dying for a reason, even if we didn't know why, it feels deserved, but the boy was just wrong place wrong time. And there's no taking it back even though it was just a stupid mistake
Under the radar and amazing for that reason amongst many others
My fav film and my new fav reactor, as a 32 yr old male i have no shame to say i sit and cry with you through these dark meaningful films. Youre a wonderful soul and Im a huge fan. Keep it up :)
😊 thank you!
This young lady is a super hostess!!!
Such a relief from much of the nonsense a viewer experiences out there!
Bravo to your disciplined and reserved approach.
Also your obvious skill at observation makes watching with you a positive ride-along. 😎💯
The tower scene when Ken sacrifices himself gets me choked up every time i watch it. Great reaction.
The Banshees of Inisherin by the same director stars the same 2 actors & was highly praised. I personally *would not* go in blind just because it gets a little weird 😅 but it's beautifully shot & Colin Farrell's performance really moved me.
The number of times me and my friends have yelled "you're an inanimate f*cking object!" or “Alcoves, you have this word?” with zero context because of this film would be very, very high. A great blend of tragic and comic. If you liked this check out "The Guard" "The Killing of a sacred Deer" "The Lobster" and "The Banshees of Inisherin."
3:37 "what? on a job? here in bruges? here in bruges? on a job?" 😆
I think the metaphorical "killing of the child" to be an adult is a theme revisited here by most of the characters. The innocence, honesty, loyalty and humour of a child lost to the hardness of adult life is its own death. The real murder is the murder of the child inside. I mean if you want an essay on this, it wouldn't be difficult to write.
I embarrassed my missus so much at the theatre when we saw this movie. I was a teensy weensy bit high, and when he calls the dwarf a " little fuckin c word" (see 7:03) I completely lost it and could not stop laughing 😂😂
If you enjoyed this you'll love "The Guard", no Collin Farrell but it has Brendan Gleeson.
The guard is one of my favourite movies. Such a hidden gem though, whenever I'm near the sea I picture him coming out in his spedos
And Don Cheadle...
You can't do far wrong with Martin McDonagh (Writer/Director) of this film.
His latest film Banshees of Inashiren has the same main actors.
But he has also worked with Brendan Gleeson and Colin Farrell separately (The Guard and Severn Psychopaths respectfully). But, I would recommend Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri highly. Oh and the afore mentioned The Guard is quite the companion piece for this film.
Absolutely agree on everything you said but it was his brother John Michael Mcdonagh who directed Brendan in the guard. And Calvary also.
Came to comments to see did anyone recommend Seven Psychopaths, great movie.
@donnchaodalaigh4031 Well I never. I didn't know it was his brother who directed The Guard. Hopefully you can see why I mixed up the two, they have a very similar quality and style to them. Both choc full of witty banter but with a dark heart.
@@icepee9252 no worries was just letting you know, for awhile I believed it was him too until he made Calvary
Such a brilliant brilliant film! A roller-coaster.
Great reaction.
Dark humor is my favorite humor, because it's kind of a 2-for-1 deal: You get a laugh wrapped in a dark, more serious context. "I shouldn't be laughing at this but, damn it, it's funny!"
Thanks for another very enjoyable reaction, pretty lady. 🤗
Same! Life is absurd so why not have a laugh at the absurdity 🙃
The McDonagh brothers just have a gift for writing. Brendan Gleason gives a phenomenal performance in Calvary which was written by John Michael.
I think the best performance I've seen of Colin Farrell was in Phone Booth which is another great movie (and almost a film in real time)
For a very different performance from Ralph Fiennes, I thought The Constant Gardener was an incredible film
My sister went to Europe on a holiday years ago and when we watched this movie together afterwards, she was sitting there keenly watching for ... "OOh, I went there! And I went there. And I saw that!"
She loved the place, and I don't blame her.
It's like a fucking fairy tale. ;)
Seven Psychopaths is incredible - it's the film In Bruges' writer-director did after this movie. I'd definitely recommend that one.
10:10 "a bottle!" 😮😆
This movie was so unexpectedly funny lol
there is very few movies that cover soul crushingly sad to ridiculously hilarious and even manage to jump between those feels like this masterpiece
Ralph Fiennes is mega as the gangster. Top movie.
Man, I had forgotten all about this movie! Forgot how really good it is 🙏🏼
my first visit to your channel...........this is one of my top 10 favorites.........enjoyed your reaction. thanks for sharing.
This movie is one of those genuine hidden gems.
Nobody goes into it knowing what to expect at all, and it's just so good.
So well written and darkly funny.
Absolutely love that you watched this! Such an under rated gem…and Bruges is definitely not a “sh*thole”…and I thought you’d appreciate the “I heet the Canadian?!” bit 😊
LOVE this film.
_Layer Cake_ is an ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE! The BEST film of the genre followed closely by _Get Carter._
Well, given your name... ☺️
Unrelated, just looking at your pfp -do you sail? I'm taking my boat out of hibernation in a few weeks!

Effing Bruges!
Love this movie and will love this reaction i’m sure 😊
9:01 "what the f*ck is a lollipop man?" 🤔
I don't know, but I don't think I would want to be called a lollipop man.
Hahaha! It's giving white van no windows
0:05 "and I do plan on doing it in the next couple weeks."
i'll be there man . 😎
Layer Cake is great too.
I love every second of the film. It's just sad so many people don't know of it.
My favorite comedy of all time
it's always nice to see a channel in the comments.
Fantastic reaction to a crafted movie - such emotion when the kid got shot - think I was upset first time, but less so.
You might enjoy Brendan Gleason in - The Guard.
Or - the greatest Brit flick ever
- Withnail and I.
I’ll have to subscribe to see. 😎👍
I recommend other stuff from this director, its pretty good, every film.
(not yelling)
SEXY BEAST- If you've seen Ghandi, this is Sir Ben portraying the Polar opposite of Ghandi
THE GUARD: Brendan Gleason and Don Cheadle are one of The Best comedy duos I've ever seen.
This was directed by Martin McDonagh. The 2 actors are reunited in McDonaghs The Banshees of Inisherin. Also did 3 Billboards, with a similar mix of comedy and drama.
His brother John McDonagh directed Gleeson in The Guard. The most financially successful independent Irish film of all time. A personal fav of mine.
So glad you loved the movie. Great reaction as always. I must have watched this black comedy 20 times. Beautifully shot, wonderfully scripted and beautifully acted!
Colin gives a great performance in Phone booth 👍
Glad I stumbled across this channel. You got me hooked straight away, binge time! :D
I absolutely love this film. It's easily in my top ten. What a fantastic script with great performances.
one of all time fav movie. glad more people are discovering it. so underrated
Loving your reactions and really looking forward to Rocknrolla probably my favourite Guy Ritchie movie
Nice!! I'm really excited now, so many people expressed their love for it.
Great reaction ! Layer Cake is a fab film you would enjoy it.
My first vid of yours i have watched as i was looking for reactions to one of my favourite films and i am really impressed, you are a pleasure to watch. Glad you enjoyed it, i will be checking out some of your previous stuff for sure.
Thank you! 😊
"Seven Psychopaths" and "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri" are also great movies by this director
I actually went to Bruges just because of this movie. They had great beer.
One of my absolute favorite movies ❤
This movie just hits you with combinations of emotions in a beatiful way
My favorite British or Irish crime/drama movies I would recommend are ''Get Carter'' (1971), ''Scum'' (1979), ''The Long Good Friday'' (1980), ''In the Name of the Father'' (1993), ''The Boxer'' (1997), ''A Room for Romeo Brass'' (1999), ''Sexy Beast'' (2000), ''Dirty Pretty Things'' (2002), ''Sweet Sixteen'' (2002), ''Dead Man's Shoes'' (2004), ''Red Road'' (2006), ''This is England'' (2006), ''Fish Tank'' (2009), ''Harry Brown'' (2009), ''Tyrannosaur'' (2011), ''Kill List'' (2011), ''Ill Manors'' (2012), ''Hyena'' (2014), ''Bull'' (2021). There are of course more.....
Great choice. I didn't know what to expect on first viewing but I really liked it. Second viewing I liked it more and third viewing I Loved it!
Kojak was a lollipop man.
"Who loves ya baby?" :-))
Tony Savalas could pull off the lollipop look look no other.
Hi Chrissie, my first tome watching you. Glad you r doing this movie, I love it. Not a big Collin Farrell guy but I love Brendan Gleason. That being said Farrell is great in this movie. I agree with some of your other viewers - “The Guard” is a really good Brendan Gleason movie. Kind of like “In Bruges” you will laugh and certain scenes will make you cry. I saw the “Banshees of Inisherin” I was not impressed. Not the same chemistry you see here. “Calvary” is another great Brendan Gleason movie - like “In Bruges” and “The Guard” it is another dark comedy. The last one I would recommend is “Snatch”. All star cast, great story, very enjoyable film.
I'm still quite new, so welcome! :D
Before starting the channel, I had never seen any Colin Farrell... I didn't get the appeal. The 2 performances I've seen of him have been amazing, so I guess I've been converted!
A few people have recommended The Guard, so I'm definitely adding it to my list! And I agree, Snatch was fantastic 👏
Lovin your work 🙏🏻
Great reaction to a wonderful film. Subscribed! You should do all of the McDonagh brother films! The Guard is maybe my next favourite. Seven Psychopaths is quite a ride too.
One of my favourite films 🎥 defo
Try Seven Psychopath’s.
This film is easily in my top 10. An almost unheard of, under appreciated masterclass of film and story telling.
'Calvary' from 2014 is another great movie with a towering performance from Brendon Gleeson.
One of my fav movies! I am so glad to find your channel Chrissie! Watch next ''Manchester by the Sea'' please
Great suggestion!
I think you'd really enjoy Seven Psychopaths, The Banshees of Inisherin & The Lobster 💜 have a lovely film journey
Martin MacDonagh (writer and director of this film) is a playwrite first, and movie director second.
He is also the master of mixing utter bleakness and sadness with pure hilarity.
I would recommend his latest fim, 'The Banshees of Inisheerin'
It also stars Bredan Gleeson & Colin Farrell - along with Barry Keoghan and Kerry Condon.
It's on my channel :)
@@chrissiereacts well then, I know the next reaction I'm checking out 🤣🤣👍
One thing you have to give to Harry. He certainly stuck to his principles.
one of the best movies ever
Living in oblivion reference. Instant subscribe
One of my favourites
P.S. Living In Oblivion! Saw it in the theater when it came out! Haven't seen it in YEARS!! Thanks for reminding me about it! I may have to do an In Bruges/Living In Oblivion double feature!
I used to own the VHS - I love it!
First time on the channel, glad you liked the movie, absolute classic for me. I love the tight script and smart foreshadowing for pretty much all plot points and the overall message, however bleak, is really well executed imo.
Just wanted to commend the smart editing with resizing the camera portion of the screen to cover up things that YT might flag and all that, very well done !
If you enjoy dry and dark humor, i would recommend "The Voices" with Ryan Reynolds and Anna Kendrick, certainly not a viewer magnet, but well worth a watch imo.
Hope you got your beer eventually :)
Thank you!! I still got flagged lol they are so strict but at least the video can still stay up :)
Also, beer tonight for sure haha
@@chrissiereacts Oh, that's a bummer, still a good effort !
0:28 "... if I'm totally honest."
I insist on total honesty from a reactor , so thank you. 🙂
😄 always 😁
That expression burrowed itself into my vocabulary one random day. Like a squatter I can't get rid of.
Ralph Fiennes..awesome
5.10 soon as he said Herve l thought of " De plane De plane " lol Fantasy lsland
This is just such a remarkable movie, fucking hell.
Also, you should watch The Banshees Of Inisherin, same 2 lead actors, same director, just as brilliant as this one.
great film i enjoyed it and got a copy.
8:02 "😢😢😢"
really changes the tone of the movie.
A bottle!!!
great movie
look forward to a few more, i have a few random ones
Something Hollywood never understood is that a movie doesn't need a happy ending to be good. Two of my favourites is La Femme Nikita (Beson) and Himmel uber Berlin (Wender). Both of which were totally slaughtered because apparently 'muricans need to be handed the story so they don't have to think themselves. I will never forgive them for putting Nicolas Cage in "Wings of desire" or "City of angels" as they called it.
Colin Farrel is hilarious in "horrible bosses"
Ooh I'll have to check that out!
If you liked this movie, try "the Guard" with Brendan Gleeson
After LotR probably my favorite music in a movie as well
7:08 - Me whenever my crush ignores me 😂
Another British dark comedy to watch is Four Lions.
Bruges, Rounders, Bad Santa and Succession?! I think you are my soulmate.
I was wondering when you'd show up!
4:54 That's mean. I lost a bet because I was positive that it was Peter Dinklage that was in In Bruges.
I did like Colin in Total Recall.
One of my all time favourite movies, but one that can't just recommend to everybody, y'know?
Chrissie! I've always meant to watch this movie; my mom actually loved this movie and was always telling me to check it out. I should have listened to mom! Now I'm shut out of the party! I'll try and watch it this weekend/soon and then catch up on this reaction. (PS: I changed my handle from Tic Toc Melody to this more generic name, but it's still me! :D I haven't/would never abandon the channel short of grim death!) (Incidentally, "Tic Toc Melody" is the name of a super rare early 70s song - I used to post rare records.....it had nothing to do with TikTok!)😄
I was about to tag you haha! I was going to ask if you've seen it because I genuinely think it would be up your alley (based on the movies you've talked about). No rush but once you watch it let me know what you think 😀
@@chrissiereacts Will do, sis! 😉🙃
That school uniform reminded me of Gryffindor with its colors.
If you haven't seen "a Clockwork Orange" you should!!!
'The necessary death of Charlie Countryman' has a very simular melancholic, but kind of beautiful vibe and some really cool moments
Shia LaBeouf, Mads Mikkelsen and even Rupert Grint(Ron Weasley) in a small part
'Lucky Number Slevin' is another great movie in a not so simular but simular way ;)
Josh Hartnett, Lucy Liu, Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman and Ben Kingsley are the main Cast of that one
These sound like fantastic recommendations. Thank you! Will them to my list :)
@@chrissiereacts hope you enjoy them as well :)
*A girl in my old school threw herself from the roof of our science block was something like 12 floors up, she landed on some weird artistic concrete made up of pebbles, rocks & shillies she was a mess but she was still alive until the paramedics tried to move her.*
That's awful.
@@chrissiereacts It was terrible, what made it worse was that she could still mumble words. We never found out why she did it, she had straight A's was pretty much going to any college she wanted. May have been the pressure but it was our last year of school & she didn't seem unhappy.
Grosse Point Blank would make good follow up…similar subject matter but as different as 2 films could be👍🙂
5:48 - She said it was Dutch.
His other films are quite beautiful in a similar darkly humorous way as well. "Seven Psychopaths" and "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri". And I'd also highly recommend watching "Synecdoche, New York" it's also darkly comedic and it's what I consider the late, great Phillip Seymour Hoffman's best performance! From the person who wrote "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"
Great recs! I really want to explore more PSH films.
Talkin' 'bout brushing teeth, check out the making of ''The Shining'', made by Stanley Kubrick's daughter Vivian, and watch (well, only if you've seen the movie itself, of course) how Jack Nicholson brush his teeth,! This is my introduction to your channel, and ''In Bruges'' is one of my favorites of the last 24 years. Greetings from The Netherlands.
This and Silver Linings Playbook are two films I only watched because there was bugger-all else on telly that night. Lucky for me I was too lazy to do anything other than shrug, grumble and start watching.
Me, when I can't reach the remote... "welp, I guess this is my life now"
I don't know why but something in me is resisting Silver Lining Playbook even though I KNOW it will be good...
