- I thoroughly enjoyed driving this car even at lower power. Sun was out, windows were down and the Vtec crossover was echoing through the hills... perfect. Enjoy...

I had one of these for my first car at 17. Not the fastest but my god its the best handling car I've ever driven - lift off oversteer on roundabouts was a joy. The paintwork was terrible though you could sneeze on it and it would scratch.
Never had lift off oversteer. Bought mine with shit 'dollar tree' tires so understeer madness. Got a good set at home now but waiting for new wheels to arrive
What was insurance like
would you say this is on par with a ford fiesta or an auldi a1
@@Twongz_does_anything 110% better than both
Any issues I should keep an eye out for? Me and my twin brother are thinking of buying it as a learning car to keep for around a year
You were being generous giving the turning circle 5/10. It really is terrible haha
Good review, and very true what you said . A good way to get into Honda Civic’s even if you have to drive a poor mans type r for a while . Makes you appreciate the real type r more when you eventually get one
Mugen Mugen thank you very much. And yes I think you've hit the nail on the head there. 👍🏻
Yeah this is my plan. Ep2 for a year...don’t mod too much. See if it’s decent get ep3
I’m nitpicking because this is a beautiful car, but, that dent on the passenger side is bugging me 😂😂😂
DJ Crisis UK haha I did notice it too.
Do miss my EP2, they’re mint for first cars. Can’t get much better for the money imo
BC MX5 exactly my point mate.
Yaris t sport
@@kanewithers2612ep2 100x better, I owned both.
Brilliant car review lewis . It Sound's and looks the dog's.
Looked like a type r from a distance 👍
3:17 when I used to put a crushed water bottle on the back of my bike as a kid 😂
Same I still do
Nice editing at the start bud, looking forward to more vids like these!
Evan Hughes thank you mate I'm glad you enjoyed it ☺️
I didnt expect the flashbang
What a beautiful civic. Clean example mate
gonna be my first car
Only thing I’ve noticed about these engines the D16V1(not stopping me from getting one) but when I looked up parts there isn’t much availability compared to the older generation engines all I could find that wasn’t cheap universal bits were headers exhaust and intake, still seem like great cars im buying one soon I can’t wait
Update?
You can use d16 internals, and older d16 valvetrain parts like cams/ rockers from a y8 for example. But K20 is really the way to go.
2:32 driving through chapeltown. I live about 1 minute away from that that pub (wagon&horses) sick video btw mate
Bang on mate. Thank you 😊
Tinted rear lights PLEASE!
I'd love one
My cousin called Oliver has this exact car and this exact colour but a different registration. I really want to get a Honda Civic EP2 Sport or an EP3 Type R in Competition White.
Honestly if you haven’t already, do it! I have an EP2 and it’s such a fun car no matter what you do with it
@@matthewavery850 I’m only 14 but I’ll think about it, I’m also thinking that a Corsa B GSI would be a good first car.
Anyone else think he sounds like guy Martin ?
What she do miles per gallon?
Great vid btw.
I'm not sure on this buddy sorry. Looks like a job for Google.
I've got a buddy club 4,2,1decat manifold and a 2.5 inch buddy club prospec exhaust with an ITG induction kit on my Ep3. Its bloody loud, but really nice tone.
If you take it easy it's not bad, about 20-23 mpg, if you tonk it in vtec you can see the fuel needle dropping.
Was my daily drive for 13 years until I got my fn2 champ white last month so it can be economic on fuel.
It's now a project car, can't part with her.
My fn2 is averaging around 28mpg. Mixed driving. This is regular driving, under 4 thou. The type R is thirsty, love it. On a long cruise I had it averaging 31 but anything lively it soon drops. So in reality mpg is anywhere between low 20's and low 30's dependant on conditions.
FYI; EP2's have D16V1 a VTEC-E engine, they're not that tunable and don't like to rev out. The VTEC crossover is about 2.3k rpm where it switches from the low rpm 'high swirl' econcomy cam to a standard one, there's absoloute no 'vtech-yo' here.... the economy and low rpm response is further obliterated if you decide to remove the inlet resonator.
Great
That's false, the D16V1s and V3s are not VTEC-E. The way they set it up in this specific engine is by having aggressive exhaust valve profiles at all times. For the intake valves, 4 are always on an aggressive profile, while the other 4 are in a much lower "economy" profile. The VTEC activates and it basically switches the economy-mode 4 over to the aggressive profile of the other four. It's pretty clever. In any case, the VTEC doesn't have an exact switch-over point, it's based entirely on how the ECU calculates speed, gear and rpm. Thus no, it does not switch from an economy cam to a standard one, it turns all 8 intake valves into an aggressive one rather than 4/4. VTEC kicked in yo is unnecesary in this case, it's a much smoother transition.
@@ChrisTheBasileus I disagree, the partial opening of one of the two intake valves is consistent with the early 2-lobe VTEC-E definition [source wikipedia]. In this generation of Civic the D16 engine was massaged to be Euro-4 emmissions compliant, why couldn't they have done this with the D17 for a little more power? The low-rpm phase with 'added swirl' helps to improve low-speed fuel economy to the point where there is little to differentiate between it and the non-VTEC 1.4 engine. In 2004 with the facelift version Honda UK were trying to push the '1.6 Sport' trim particularly in the brochure, I can't imagine for a moment they would have highlighted the economy optimised aspect of the engine! I owned a '1.6 SE' from 2004-10, I ran mine on super unleaded (ron-97) and was disappointed by the engine, maybe because of the SOHC drivetrain and compromised map, but for me there was no top-end 'zing', maybe my engine was not 100%?
@@paulthomas6609 whats ur idea of if i swapped a d16y8 head onto a 1.4l block
@@hisheeelijah1482 I have a distant memory that the block is the same for 1.4 & 1.6 units, back in the day people were either putting highlift non-VTEC cams in 1.4 engines or shipping 1.7 heads / ECU's from asia to europe to get good power gains, this might be harder to do 15 years later.
Great review, that EP2 looks mad! Any details on the owners instagram ?
Tay Lor thank you. It's Kyle_ep2
FNLEW Awesome, thanks very much
i've just got my self a fn2, are you based in sheffield ? only asking because i am xD Do you ever do meet ups?
I am in sheffield mate but I've never done a meet up before 🤔
@@FNLEW no worries. Well ifi see you driving about, I'll give you a flash 😂. You part of the honda civic fn2 group on fb? Ive only had the car 2 weeks, n loving every bit of it 👌👌
@@OGSplinter000 haha nice one. I am indeed yes. It's a brilliant car to own.
Would you reccomend this for an 18y/o ??
If the insurance is adorable then why not.
Right thanks
type r badges, really :p
Only red Hs mate 😂
Can you list the body mods
I was saying in my head that grill is worth more than the car
Probably
What wheels are those all help appreciated?
I think they're xsr 527
FNLEW thanks they look amazing and wanted to get them for my Corolla g6r , videos amazing mate 👍
@@ewanjohnston5985 no worries and thank you 😊
Hi I am a young driver and would like something sporty and fun to drive but Insurance is an annoyance
Jaden Shortland well this is a good car to start with or even a Jazz sport can always be cool ☺
Excellent cars although I’m a bit biast 😂
Sick Will haha just a bit 😂
Are them seats standard??
They are yes.
It looks good but performance is not good its a single cam with 110 hp as much as my grandmas vits
Unfortunately that's what makes it cheaper to insure.
@@FNLEW but you can get the civic ek with the 1.6 vtech that puts out 130 bhp
@@cliffordsant3262 fair enough, but I think the less modern handling wouldn't be as stiff as this would be cornering wise so it's pros and cons.
which exhaust is this? I have a pre facelift ep2 and doesnt sound like this.
I can't remember but I say it in the video. I think it's some combination of three different ones 😂.
Are there LED bulbs fitted to the headlights? :D
You insert them inside the headlight casing.
Hi , I cant seem to find this car anywhere, I've had look on autotrader, they only have ep3s, where can u find these ? I've looked everywhere
That or ebay are your best bet. Should be under EP2 or Civic Sport.
Thanks alot mate, that helped me
@@i.aproductions7495 no problem dude 👍🏻
Ive just bought one of these how much would the insurance be for a new 17 yr old driver
I haven't a clue mate sorry. All depends on post code, insurer, named drivers, inflation etc. A comparison site is your best bet.
Around £1300 a year
KriS98 this is with a black box I’m guessing as don’t want black box insurance how much would that be
@@keatsy9333 Depends have you passed your test yet or are you still on a provisional licence? What year is the car, do you live in a town or rural area? Is there any modifications done to the car that you're going to need to declare? Ep2's are a deadly first car but having a blackbox in your car defeats the purpose of owning one in my opinion. Ye you should take is easy going through the town and not act a prick but when your on an open back road we all love to give it a good razzing. Insurance companys label civics as boy racer cars and they hold it at a higher risk lvl then most cars so your automatically going to be paying a higher premium then you would on a different make of car with an equivalent power output. Best thing to do is try get insured under your parents as a named driver on their insurance, otherwise they will charge you an utter mess of a price considering your age.
@@AquaFlowGaming why you telling him how to live his life with a civic shut up and let him do his own thing
Hey, is stock ep2 still nippy?
It's nippy but not exactly fast
If you had to choose between this & yours, which one would you pick?
Dr Chunky Biscuit well I'd choose mine because I'm used to the power but if I'd had neither and money was a factor then I'd get the ep2.
Interested to know, you mentioned the car is decat, what does he do when it comes to MOT? Does he have a stock downpipe or what?
Gareth Bolton yeah he swaps it for a standard cat for the mot 👍🏻
I swear he’s going through chapeltown Sheffield
Key20 B that's correct 👍🏻
I seen you on a couple of times I beep at you last time 👍
Key20 B oh really? what do you drive?
Black corsa c with a side plate I beeped at you on yew lane, you looked so confused 😂
Love the vids dude keep it up 👍👍
please name and size wheels ;)
Patryk Km the wheels are xxr 527

Mod list ?
Sorry dude its just what's stated in the video.
And cheap to modify
What insurance group is it?
I'm not quite sure on that one sorry

What’s the rpm vtec engagement? I usual take mine to 4K revs on 3 gear / 4 to 5th no higher on mine as I put it back to fully standard due to using it for work and couldn’t afford filling it constantly 😂
Craig chapman haha it's usually between 5-5.5k Revs. It doesn't hurt to treat yourself every now and then. 😂
FNLEW scared that I’m going to blow it up say it to everyone with the tiny manifold on it 😂 I used to take it to that with toyo mani on it about 6k revs but haven’t with this one I darent 😂 got a sponge panel filter on it though so helps breath abit 🙈
Craig chapman they're made to rev to the limiter and love it mate. That's why these engines were built to rev so high. My engine is completely stock. I only have a catback exhaust. Honda engines are known for being bulletproof from factory so you're probably in the safest car to rev up mate 😂.
FNLEW very true might give it ago in the morning 😂 take it you’ve got a fn2? What’s your Instagram I’m follow you 😀😀
Craig chapman haha yes that's what I drive. It's fn_lew. It's in the description too 👌🏻
I'm getting one of these soon but I'm sorry.. No exhaust too cringe
No problem, I will say they're much quieter exhausts 😂
The amount he spent on the car he could of bought a ep3
Maybe, but not insure it.
Sid :D
Are these reliable?
Aaron O'Brien I'd say so yes. Most hondas are quite reliable.
Very!! I had mine for over 5yrs and I never had a problem, drove it from 86k to 147k until someone wrote me of last month, I now have a type r ep3 😎
Dre Joseph sorry to hear that, just had my motorcycle writ off after someone hit me.
I’ve seen a Civic Sport 2004 which has done 120,000+ miles (FHSH) apparently.
Should be a good bet then ?
Is that a question mate it’s Honda
RealSTYLISHx I’m 20 turning 21 do I realistically get an ep2 or ep3 ????!
I boost it💨
Arthur Simon boost and budget don't really mix 😂
The Insurance was really high on one of these
Jaden Shortland anything small can still be modded to your taste. Nissan micras are really popular.
Isn't it an EP3??
ctrmint no the 2 letre type R is the EP3.
Ep1 is 1.4 Ep2 is 1.6 Ep3 is 2.0
Whats the insurance like on these?
If your in ireland forget it m8 unless u can afford to pay 4 grand a year. Speak about getting ripped off.
That hook behind , I mean, cmon , that is so ugly!
Are you just hunting for tow hooks 😂? I don't think people are bothered what others think when they put one on. I'm certainly not.
Bla Bla Bla Bla on voit pas les perf ni la voiture
Sorry I don't speak French.
D series 🤮🤮👎
Your Honda sounds like a lawn mower
Would the insurance be really expensive for a first time driver?
It can be for most cars but I'd always recommend trying a car enthusiast car insurance or modified car insurance.
@@FNLEW ah right thanks man
