      I personally think this keyboard would be worth the money if it came with a hot swappable PCB. I honestly think more people would use Razer switches if you could buy them individually and didn’t have to use them on their keyboards, that being said, I also think more people would also be inclined to use a Razer board if they could put whatever switches they wanted into it if they wanted to match the rest of their set up. Those new Yellow switches are definitely an interesting animal and I would love to give them a try

  • @flashbits6614
    @flashbits6614 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    totally agree on your point that the blackwidow line is in kind of a identy crysis and that wireless isn't the way to go. It would make much more sense to give the blackwidow line hotswap funktionality and moving it into the direction of the gmmk. Widely available and easy to mod for entry level enthusiasts, while the huntsman line offers speedfeatures like optical switches and what not.

    • @Brainbean
      @Brainbean  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Razer will never offer hotswap. They are too invested in their proprietary switches.

    • @flashbits6614
      @flashbits6614 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Brainbean you are probably right. On the other hand had razer a very close ear to the market in the past 3 years and their reps are constantly seeking feedback from r/mechanicalkeyboards and r/mousereview. If the gmmk pro will be a succes, i doubt that razer would let glorious take over that growing market by themselves.

    • @mikeyhope7577
      @mikeyhope7577 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Brainbean the only thing I see them doing is making a proprietary hotswap system that would keep you in their own switch line. That way people can swap out clicks for linears or even switch to optical when they feel like it.

    • @Brainbean
      @Brainbean  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Mikey Hope that would be the best solution for them I think. They sell more switches and people can customize.

    I bought this keyboard from Microcenter for $109, because they price-matched Best Buy. I bought the yellow variant, which I fell was a mistake. The key presses felt amazing, and the light effects were fantastic! That's the best I can say about this keyboard. As I said before, I got the Yellow Key variant, which is supposed to be for gamers. However, if you use your keyboard for anything... anything besides strictly gaming, that "J" button will invite itself every chance it gets! Your fingers need to be disciplined in at every moment, or button presses will happen by simply by grazing the top of them. It that's what you want, then far be it from me to give it a poor review; but it just became very, very annoying to me. Every now and then I would lose connection as well, just for a moment. The Razor app would also forget the keyboard about every other day or so, until I shut down the Synapse app and restarted it (could be an issue with my OS as well). Also, with RGB at 10 percent, the battery would last around three days (or more) of use; I typically used it a total of about eight hours throughout the day. However, with RGB at 30 percent or higher, I was lucky to get two full days out of it. Finally, while this won't apply to 99 percent of people, I use two keyboards at my desk; one for work, one for my desktop. I'm constantly switching the order of the two on my desk. The Razor is so difficult to pick up with one hand because of the front beveled edge. To be clear, many will love this keyboard. It's well built, feels great, and looks amazing. However, if you find yourself in any of the circumstances I'm in, you may find it very, very annoying.

    I am into custom keyboards now, so I won't be buying this board, but it is still a cool release by Razer. Going 65% is awesome, and is the best layout imo. I definitely agree with you though, the line between the Blackwidow and Huntsman keyboards is getting really convoluted. It makes 0 sense to have ABS keycaps on a $180 keyboard, but PBT on a $120 board that is part of the more (premium line). For Razer to actually start making excellent keyboards, they need to adopt hotswap, PBT keycaps only, and better stabilizers (preferably plate mount). I really think that Razer would do well in the beginner keyboard enthusiast space, just like what Glorious is doing. You can build a 10x better custom 60% or 65% for the same price, and have it wired or wireless.

    Wish 75% keyboards were more common. I bought a 65% (Perixx 428) but it turns out I use the function row and num row quite a bit and using the Fn key was a pain (espcially for typing macrons as I had to hit shift, esc, fn and a vowel all at the same time).

    Great Video and respect your opinion on this review but when it comes to other cheaper keyboards they are just that cheaper! There is only one Razer! Basically your review says that it's a good keyboard but not price. Would I like it cheaper? Yes but what I want is irrelevant. I would pay the $180 because switching out keycaps is not important to me and it's already been proven that most people don't customize their keyboards anyway. I just want a feature packed good keyboard. Value is with the consumer.
