    The 15 minute masterpiece about the creation of the universe. Nice. EDIT: Part of the "disconnect" and loneliness that the song talks about is that the universe is ever expanding, and we have no idea what's out there in terms of other life forms. "If we're a product of the universe, how can we choose whether we're going to be a part of it or not be a part of it?" I think the song refers to us being alone in the universe, which we most likely are not, but we don't know yet. As Neil said, "I see beyond the plight of humans". We have our own problems and wars here, that in the grand scheme of things mean absolutely nothing. If another species ever makes contact with us humans, they will see all of our war and famine and hunger and think "wow, these beings are stupid" because we can't get over our own problems and realize that we're all the same. The universe isn't "up there" or "out there", WE ARE the universe. "You are a function of what the whole universe is doing in the same way that a wave is a function of what the whole ocean is doing."

    First 5-6 mins is a musical creation/inspiration of the big bang.
    The lyric section/slow part is the evolution of life.
    The last section w/Neil basically describing the cosmos and our belittlement/impact (if any) to the universe as humans.

    Dont know if you guys know but this song is literally about the creation of earth. There was nothing in the beginning, hence the softness. Then bang! Its heavy for a while while the solar system is being created. When it gets soft thats about the time life starts on earth. Amd when ndt is talking at the end, that is present day asking ourselfs whats at the stars. This song was carefully planned

    Not that it really ties into the track too much, but Dr. Tyson once said, in so many words, if you think of how small and truly insignificant you are when you look at the existence of the entire universe, & you become saddened/depressed/hopeless (kind of how the tone of the lyrical portion of this songs sounds), your ego was waaaaaay too big too begin with, & your view on life was far too self centered, but in all actuality, you have no reason to feel so depressed or hopeless, because the very atoms that make you, you- the very substance that is you, in its most basic form, is also found throughout the universe. You literally are one with the universe. If you don’t become completely awestruck when you really sit down & take that concept in- really internalize it- then something is truly wrong with you, my friend. Interesting conversation as usual, guys. Thanks.

    This song made think, until today I have many ways I approach this song's meaning, religiously and non-religiously

  • @smokeemifyougotem9662
    @smokeemifyougotem9662 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    The album is all about science essentially. You have it tacking simulation theory (Simulation), the fermi paradox (Fermi Paradox), creating self aware AI (Creating God), transhumanism (Paradigm), human history is a endless bloody loop coming to the realization we are all puppets to death or by essence ourselves (The Stage), the sacrifices of those who sought the truth at the hands of the ignorant (Roman Sky's), the sorrow of our past ideals being wrong and heavy pessimism for the future (Angels) and Exist which tackles both a feeling of loneliness and solitude within the universe coming to the realization we are not alone as we are the universe and it's our task to go forth and observe it as we are its means of observation. Humanity is the universe looking back onto its itself.
    As for where you get free will from this perspective. I dont really think you do. I act day to day like we have free will because you cant operate on the inverse but even with a God if they are omnipotent than everything was already decided before "let there be light" and there is no counter argument as if you know all including the future than you know what your creation will do before you make them you will know how all factors all variables play together and in turn decide how they will fall as you are the pusher.
    From a scientific perspective, you simply remove the will behind it, the God, and everything is just a chain of dominos going back to the random explosion of creation known as the big bang. We are just biological computers programmed by genetics and feeding off environment circumstances. Whether religious or not neither can truly awnser if we have freedom.

    I truly believe the answer to the question of the pastor in the end, I heard a bit from Sir Roger Penrose on Joe rogan's podcast. Something about how Consciousness is the most different thing in the whole entire universe. And it is true, it really is quite a different aspect to be found in the universe. It is not like gravity, and does not follow the laws of physics, but it manifests itself in the short lifespans in the known universe that have the ability to make choices in order to survive. Life is finite and uses consciousness in order to survive or wander through existence itself. How do you think a pack of dogs, wolves or fish react or make decisions individually and/or with a group? I understand that those two subjects earlier, isolation and free will don't connect but they don't have to, but I'll try to connect it: The latter part of Neil Degrasse Tyson says is true however in that our actions are reflected by our human ego, because we have a potential never seen before. We struggle constantly trying to build our own universe with our own imagination. And whatever potential we have barely scrapes the universe, maybe showing us how insignificant our time may be, which probably gives us a lot more meaning in our lives for we will all die one day and that we are very lucky to even be alive.

    I couldn't wait for this reaction, and it didn't disappoint either. Now that you've cleansed your palate for long songs with long instrumentals you should check out Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Iron Maiden. It's about the same length as this but has a more ominous feel to it, and tells a story with some spiritual messages too. It's based on an English poem from the late 1700s or early 1800s, very interesting story!

    i think it goes off higher in my thoughts i might be wrong but thats what i think... i think the song is about exploration and how well the guitar is fast means its supposed to be science taking off and how much people explored the earth and the solar system then after a while things went dormant (guitar solo slowed down) then the lyrics came in and told you why its slowed down i guess maybe idk...i guess the songs about exploring and people should never stop exploring... also this album reminds me a lot of like the pink floyd stuff but this song particular is reminding me of learning to fly glad your back!

    Such a wonderful musical & philosophical masterpiece this one. Think, for a moment, in the entire history of the cosmos, all the way from the moment of the big bang, the spark of cosmic creation, to this very second. Humanity has only lived but a single second in that cosmic lifetime. And what do we have to show for our single second in space? Death, war, suffering, & hate beyond measure. We are the product of the cosmos. Countless stars died & shed their matter so that we may exist. Yet, by only focusing on "me, myself, & I", or our own human ego, we are refusing to expand into the cosmos where we truly belong. If tomorrow, all of humanity was wiped from the face of this single planet, the universe wouldn't be any different for it.

    For me the part of Neil Degrasse Tyson is about realizing how small we are compared to the universe. When he says there are more stars in the universe than grains of sand on the worlds beaches, more stars in the universe than seconds of time that has passed since earth formed, more stars than every sound that has been uttered by all humans that have ever lived makes me see that when compared to universe we are ants. Think about it. Every human that HAS EVER LIVED? If you do research on history that is dated back trillions of years ago to the very first human to walk this planet. Do you know how many sounds that could have been uttered since then by us? And there are more stars than that? More stars since earth was formed which is probably trillions of years before even humans and dinosuars were around? That's alot of fucking stars dude!! When you compare your life to that, you realize just how meaningless your daily struggles of society really are. Mixed with the fact that we are so often caught up in our daily ruts of life, that we forget anything can happen in a moment's notice to take everything away from us or us away from those we love. You really start to think and realize just how precious every moment you are alive is. And how much of that you have taken for granted and did not appreciate over the years. As I quote the fictional character Drizzt Do'Urden from the books of R.A. Salvatore. Everyone dies, it is how one lives that matters.

    The song that solidified my atheism I mean nothing against you guys are you beliefs but to me the song finally realize that we couldn't have a Creator because the universe is so vast and so big and nothing could have created that or nothing could have had enough energy to do that because even though it it said that the Universe should have a Creator by that logic the universe would be so big that the point of a creative wouldn't even need to have existed in the first place just like us a God would just be a very small Speck in the vastness of the universe also you kind of missed whenever you pause at the end the meaning of why it was just nothing but white noise that's supposed to solidify the meaning of the heat death of the universe meaning that nothing could happen after that
