    I've watched a few forge builds with this style of kit but not seen anyone enjoy the build as much :)

    Hey I just wanted to leave a comment and say that I really appreciate the approach you took to discharge the LP bottle and the extra safety steps you went through to accomplish that. Working in fire art and performance this stuff is always absolutely crucial to understand and I just really appreciated the way you approached it!
    The build looks amazing, your metal work is great and overall total legend of a build, thanks for sharing!

    Hi Rowan. Great build. Very functional and well planned. Just purchased a forge kit from Gameco. Wondering if you would be prepared to share the dimensions of your build. Cheers.

      Thanks Darren. Overall height of the trolley is 900 high (to match my benches), 820 long by 500 wide. The handles, forge and guide rail protrude beyond these dimensions.

    Mate that's awesome work. The fit and finish is great. I just bought the same forge kit pre-made and it looks like the coating for the kaowool is worn off. Bought some other paint on stuff from gameco they said it's better than the ridgidizer spray. I get nervous around these harmful products!

    Hey mate, well done on an excellent build. Very clean and well engineered. Great video too!
    I'm looking at buying the forge kit from gameco and wondering if you bought the one that includes their burner? And now that you have it going, is it performing well?
    Cheers from central Vic 👍

    • @rowanferguson
      @rowanferguson  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the kit comes with the burner too. It goes well for smaller peices but I can't get enough heat for heavy stock like 25mm solid square bar.

    Could you put 2 burners in this size bottle? Just started to blacksmith. Not knife making. Im making camp tripods..hooks.. cook sets etc... sometimes 18MM roundbar

    • @rowanferguson
      @rowanferguson  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've been told you can. It could do with a little more heat if you want to move 18mm.

  • @lukerothwell2914

    Thanks for the video. Does the forge get hot enough to forge steel?

    • @rowanferguson
      @rowanferguson  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's hot enough for smaller pieces but I'd probably go double burners if I was building again.

      Hi Stuart, main is 140*95. Back is 110*40 but it's almost always closed off with the firebrick.

    looks like you still have exposed refractory wool. that's not good the rigidizer will break down and the fibers will go airborne over time. you need to seal it with 1/4" castable refractory then ideally add a thin ceramic reflective coating. also make sure your forge chamber isn't bigger than 300 cubic inches. as it is your forge isn't optimized and might not reach forge welding temps.

    • @rowanferguson
      @rowanferguson  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Chris, agree the chamber could be a little smaller in volume - it's about 350. Where do you see exposed wool? I was pretty careful to ensure every surface was carefully coated, as per the kit instructions.

    • @SimplyChrist
      @SimplyChrist 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rowanferguson I believe he was talking around 10:45 where you coat the bottom but don’t seem to put it around the rest of the inside of the forge. Perhaps it’s just the lack of video. I was also wondering if you had coated the entire inside of the forge or just the bottom. Good video. I plan to use your idea in about a week. Thanks!

    • @rowanferguson
      @rowanferguson  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SimplyChrist castable refractory cement is only used on the floor. The rigidizer was heavily sprayed on all wall and ceiling surfaces. You do need to keep inspecting the walls for any cracks or damage - and reapply rigidizer immediately if there's any exposed wool. If you wanted to go for a hard refractory, look at a thin layer of satanite or RTZ wash coat.
