    I use this lens with the old R6 and Im very happy with it and it's the lens that Canon should have produce way earlier. As you have confirmed the R6mk2 is the ideal combo but before I upgrade Im eagerly waiting for the R5mk2. April is just around the corner!

    You have shot this lens with the R5 as well as the R6 Mark II. Please put up your comparisons

    • @vhsstudios365
      @vhsstudios365  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Though the lens works perfectly fine with Canon R5, i would say a more appropriate combination is with R6ii due to its more advanced AF and better low light and high iso performance.

      @@vhsstudios365how different are the AF animal/bird systems between the R5 and R6II? Are there differences in video AF when tracking birds?

    • @vhsstudios365
      @vhsstudios365  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      R6ii being a newer camera it has better subject detection and overall AF, it works almost similar to the flagship R3.
      Though R5 doesn’t have that many bells and whistles like the newer R6ii. It still tracks birds in photos and videos.
      If we try to nitpick to see the real difference, the subject/ eye detection on R5 works in wide area af only. Choosing any other AF area will disable the subject/eye detection.
      In R6ii subject/eye detection can be enabled in any modes. Which could be helpful in certain complex scenarios.
      By using a touch focus or assigning a custom button you can make a workaround for this in R5.
      R5 still has one of the best subject detection and tracking out there despite the fact that its an old camera. But R6ii can do the job with less intervention from the photographer.

      @@vhsstudios365 Thanks for the pointers. However, why I was asking is because I intend to shoot small birds with whichever combo I go for. In that case, I was hoping that the 45 MP of the R5 would have more details on the bird even after a huge crop. However, the AF is also an important consideration and so is the high ISO performance. In the end, I might go for the R6 Mark II due to those reasons, esp. since I mostly shoot in a rain forest.

    • @vhsstudios365
      @vhsstudios365  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Considering F9 being the widest aperture at 800mm, a lower MP camera like R6ii would be a better pair for 200-800, especially when you plan to shoot in areas with challenging light conditions.
      If you are not looking particularly for that higher MP or 8k videos. R6ii would be a better pair for 200-800. We have tested this lens on R5, R6ii and R3. And it performed best with R6ii even slightly better than on R3.
      There is another video in our channel which is a 200-800 field review, all the footages in that are shot with R5. That could give some more insights i believe.

    Hello! Great video so thanks for sharing it. I can’t yet justify getting a new lens as of yet but I do have the 100-409mm USM version 2 L. How do you think it would fare on the R6ii with a 2x teleconverter?

    • @vhsstudios365
      @vhsstudios365  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We haven’t tried that combo. But 100-400 being such an awesome lens, it would be great if used standalone. It would give good results with 1.4 TC as well. But we are sceptical about the results with 2x TC

    Would love to see a comparison with this combo vs the R7 with the 100-500. With the crop equivalent of 800mm I wonder which would have superior IQ.

    • @vhsstudios365
      @vhsstudios365  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We haven’t done a side by side comparison of these combos. But from what we know about R7, Though the resolution will be higher with R7 + 100-500, the image quality will be superior on R6ii + 200-800.

    Fantastic video. How is the performance of this combo for small birds in low light conditions? Do you think it can be used in places like North East or Western ghats?

    • @vhsstudios365
      @vhsstudios365  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you 🙂. It works well with small birds and low light conditions. Based on what we observed about this combo, it can be used in regions like western ghats. The AF will surely track, you may have to push the iso for deep canopy situations. But it will be well managed with the low light performance of this camera, though it may require some help from the noise reduction in some cases.

      @vhsstudios365  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @harshad6489 The RF200-800mm lens paired with the R6M2 handles subject detection or tracking effortlessly. However, in dense forests, lighting can be insufficient, possibly requiring higher ISO settings. Considering the lens's aperture of F9 at 800mm, there will be some limitations to be acknowledged when you compare this lens with a prime lens with a wider aperture like f4 or f2.8 in those shallow lighting situations.

      @@vhsstudios365 thank you for the response sir. So should I go for this lens as I want to capture not only birds but also mammals mounted on R6 mk.2?

    • @vhsstudios365
      @vhsstudios365  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @harshad6489 There isn't a one-size-fits-all lens for every situation. Considering your interests in both birding and photographing mammals, have you explored the RF100-500mm lens? Opting for the 100-500mm range offers more versatility. With mammals potentially closer, the minimum 200mm focal length on the 200-800mm lens might be excessive. The 100mm starting point on the 100-500mm lens could give you more options in such scenarios if you are ok with the 500mm on the other end. It might be beneficial to compare both lenses before making a decision.

    The Best Combo is Nikon camera of the year Z8 and 180-600 Z Lens >> Internal Zooming >> not a dust Sucker like the 200-800 Trombone Zooming= easy to handle the Nikon outfit handheld and on a Gimbal. Need the reach of 800 mm on the Nikon = with the huge 45 m pixel Sensor you can crop deep .. the Nikon is f6.3 at 600mm >> the canon lens is way Darker f6.3 at 200mm !!! and F9 @F9!!!

      Great video and footage

    • @vhsstudios365
      @vhsstudios365  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      We have tested z8 with 180-600 but with the previous firmware. Unfortunately the af performance especially in stills was not at all comparable to R6ii. Yes 200-800 is a slower lens but the awesome low light performance of R6ii kinda compensate for that. Though 180-600 starts at 6.3 at the longer end, it’s considerably softer wide open @ 600, and has to stop down at least 2/3 stops or even 1 stop to make it acceptably sharp. Could be a limitation of internal zoom lens design.
      Meanwhile 200-800 is not perfect either. It’s pumping action is obvious.
      Other things to factor in are the price and the weight of the combo. Z8 + 180-600 is a much expensive and heavier combo. Last but not least, Z8 is one of the most power hungry device we used and can drain its standard battery within no time.
      Being said that Z8’s image quality is amazing, so as its image stabilisation. Its video implementation and codecs are one of the best available in the market.
