You did a great job on the cording Richard, something that the happy couple will treasure. I always said if I ever got married again I'd insist on a handfasting/jumping the broom wedding & I'm sure it'd last longer than the courthouse ones lol. Congrats to the happy couple )0(.
Michelle and I wanted the cord but silly me forgot to bring it with us to the ceremony when her and I got married. I am sure it will last, they have already been together for some time now, around 5 years now.
Loved that Richard not to sure how or why they are used...are they all hand made..?. .can't think who is getting married???..she was so excited, I hope it was a fantastic day...
They vary according to need or want. I think this one was about 6' long. You generally need about three or four times the length to start with. I have made a few if these for weddings and, as my memory serves, they were all right around 6 feet long. 3' would work but I enjoy weaving and I tend to over do rather than under do.
Adding more ribbon would be easy to do. I have a video on making cordage from grass that might show you but once you reach near the end all you need to do is add more ribbon. Over lap, by a few inches, and as you continue to weave it it will just blend into the weave. I'll try to find the video and link it for you.

well, the video that follows will demo that. But this is how the "tie the knot" got started. They are not all hand made but I like to make any I use.
What is the Length of the ribbon used? And what Length does that cord end up being ?

How to you join a new strain of ribbon on if you run out and need to add another piece or do you use one long piece as most rolls are 3 metre rolls

It can be hard to watch these old videos, she has passed and after having her around me for 10 years it is sad she is gone.
