    Great video - inspiring!
    Does the camera and solar panel need to be carefully matched? Or do all these solar panels tend to produce the same voltage? Can they overload the camera if the sun is too strong, or is there clever circuitry to stop that happening?

If and when you make them available to the public for purchase, will you let those who of us who follow your channel know? For us older, & non-handy people, thank you, it was beautiful to watch the bluebirds' progress in the nestbox.

    • @BeakPeeker
      @BeakPeeker  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I find that they roost on the highest point. Which would be that elevated tab on the back. The panel does get hot but i have tried to dissipate it a bit with the double thickness roof. The next gen models will have a bit more ventilation. It isn’t that big of a problem in PA because the days here are still a bit chilly. Temperature might play a part if there is a second clutch though. These cameras have a built in thermometer so i’ll be able to monitor that too. The silicone is just a basic sealant from Home Depot. Thanks for watching!

      I love this guy's work too and he answers questions!
      Try adding four blocks to the roof and place a larger "shade roof" over the primary roof. A larger solar panel will fit on the upper roof and it is barely any extra work. Just imagine a roof over a roof. I used a wifi thermostat (Ewelink WiFi Temperature works with Alexa/Google)and figure while under full sun it is is cooler by 25°F.
      I learned this when a house wren flew within 5 feet away and started vigorously serenading me (beautiful songs) then fly back to her box and back. I finally figured her chicks were roasting alive in her nest box. Luckily, I had a mister sprinkler and cooled the box down for the rest of the day.
      Glueing one inch blocks to the roof, then screwing a second roof with that airspace between, not only cooled off the box but generally protected it from the UV and rain elements. Next spring I will easily replace the faux roof for the third time.
      If you live in the frigid north, you might also one to consider small vent holes with pivoting covers at the top of the box under the roof line. During the early spring, keep them closed and open them summer.

    So far I am not happy with any of my solar products, if the sun isn’t shining right on them they don’t work. Now if this holds a charge and still works when shade or clouds come that’s better but still have reservations on it.

  • @MsHerminio

    • @BeakPeeker
      @BeakPeeker  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The camera has a glossy black finish. So i think they notice a bit of a reflection. I wouldnt say they are scared but they do initially notice it. It becomes a non issue after 30 seconds.
