Congratulations! This is the 4th DIY bird house video I've watched and the only one to show the finished bird house at the beginning of the video. You are the only one that knows bird houses AND videos. The other videos forced me to fast forward till I could see what the finished project look like. You did it right.
I have so much timber and scrap wood laying around, this was just what I was looking for! I’m glad I’m not crazy for considering repurposing them for birdhouses haha
These are great instructions. Though I've heard it's best not to have a peg in front because "enemy" birds will use it to more easily come in and loot the nest or attack it in some way
Kind of, the perch is more attractive for invasive House Sparrows, which will kill native bluebirds and swallows. All the native birds are well adapted to accessing holes without a perch
I have dozens of these scattered throughout my property. They look great. If I could give you a tip, cut a disk off one end first for the bottom, just looks more natural and saves you cutting one to fit from another material.
This is just superb, I've been looking for "birdhouse instructions simple" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Ever heard of - Daniliana Birdfly Babar - (search on google ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my cousin got amazing results with it.
That's a good idea but you'll get better drainage if you recess the bottom, so I would actually use a slice of the core and screw or nail it about a 1/4" up inside the birdhouse.
hi everyone ,if anyone else wants to uncover building a bird aviary plans try Debuncar Amazing Aviary Aid (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some pretty good things about it and my buddy got cool success with it.
I don’t even have logs but this video is too good to skip 🤣💯 I took woodshop all years of high school it was one of the best Classes available, Peaceful work I felt like Jesus himself haha
They look great, I would put a drainage hole or two in the base to allow water to escape just in case the rain water came through the entrance hole, also use stainless steel screws (that will not rust solid and stick) so that the sides can be opened to remove old nest material, the dead runt of the clutch (there is always a victim in the family), and sterilise the inside with boiling water. Allow to dry out and reassemble.
I made one like that for bluebirds, they came and nested first year. Then blackbirds started pecking hole bigger, not to be defeated i took a piece of plastic pipe, cut it to fit in the hole, the blackbirds tired to get in but failed bluebirds came back! A victory for our side!😊
Loving so many options, but agree with others... slice a piece off the bottom before splitting or carving up the body for the base. This piece could easily be screwed on for access to clean it out periodically.
Just curious what species of wood a person should look for. I live on the Canadian Prairies in east-central Alberta. Not many large trees to be had and not much variety of different species. Lots of box elders (or "Manitoba Maple" as we sometimes call them). Any poplars that fall down are usually too rotten and cracked to make use of.
DO NOT put a peg in front! Your target nester species don’t need it, but it absolutely provides predator birds a place to stand while they reach in and pull chicks out !
The opening seems very high for the young birds. I piece of mesh or cloth inside leading up to it would help a lot. Also, the size of the hole is determined by what type of birds you want to attract.
I need help. We live on a 1st floor apartment. Our neighbor on the 2nd floor just moved in and uses an owl decoy which has affected birds (and humming birds) to come visit our beautiful patio, bird feeders and bird bath. Before she moved in our birds visited often and had so much fun. Can you give me advice on how we can get the birds to return to our bird haven. Love your youtube video
The 45-degree cuts made with a template are you still cutting the centre out with the bandsaw ? Also what size blade are you using on the bandsaw 1/4 ?
That a nice idea but a lot of work to not know what bird will habitat. The location of nest, size and location of the hole are important as well as the means to clean, provide drainage and venting
Great ideas! You could also use the e-chainsaw as you already have it there for #2. One thing I would/might/will do is cut off a puck from the chosen piece of log to attach straight back onto the bottom. Aaaaaaaaaand yet another cool project for me to do! Dang you! Ha ha ha ha

If you sell those bird houses, tons of people will buy them! So beautiful they are!

True

you goddamn genius, i didnt even think of that. Thanks! will do that to the one im building

@@underthetrees4780 Yes I made sure to drill holes in the bottom for drainage....cheers
This log bird house is the number one way of getting birds into your property
The best one
You clever ingenious man. You covered every method so that everyone can have a go at this project, thank you ❤
A hinge on the bottom plate for easy clean out. Great job keep them coming.
Great idea! I just cut down a sizable limb from my mother-in-law's cherry tree. I think I'll try this. Thanks for the video tutorial!
I really appreciate you taking the time to show how it can be done with various tools, just awesome thanks

The hatchet looks best way and the fastest , thanks for sharing
I like the different ways you used the logs. And how easy you made it look. I gotta try your method. Thanks for sharing.
Amasing idea in itself but your video is perfection showing so many ways of achieving the result!!!!
Use the cut out part of the log for a hummingbird house? I love your design.
Hummingbirds don't use houses or nesting boxes

BRAVO !!!
Those are adorable! I'm gonna need a bigger band saw
Thanks for these ideas! You must be very fond of birds!
Now that is Lateral thinking. Impressive!
Ein ganz feines Video! Sehr gut und anschaulich gezeigt. Bravo.
Great tips! A miter saw (chop saw) would probably work well, too. 12" would probably be easier than a 10."
Great... We liked and enjoyed to the end. Thanks Have a happy day!

Thanks I like the idea of splitting the log. I think it will look more natural

Looks so pretty. I definitely don't have the tools for this project yet.
Good idea, might give that a shot if my bandsaw will hog through that much material.
Wow. Great job. Super bird boxes😃👍
Any place where I can buy these already made? I dont have any space to make something like this or the tools either.
Szuper jó ötletek.
Very Very Nice 👍

Love them! What a great idea!
Good video! You forgot to mention another method... Wood lathe... Awesome video in any case. 👍🏼
Very good ideas and a great demonstration sir well done..
Those are really cute
Hatchet for the win
Really minimal effort if it's a sharp hatchet.

Very nice 👍
Good for both round birds and square birds.
So good. The bad part is the sawing would take ages and nice logs are hard to find.

Very nice.
Y cuando después de un tiempo quieran limpiar el interior, para eliminar ácaros, restos de heces, etc, como harían?
Thanks you very much 😊😊😊
Bravo et merci pour ces bonnes idées.!
Thank you and congratulations for your simplicity and exemplary clarity in the examples provided! best wishes end good work from Roma
Great ideas for preserving our biodiversity of VASUNDHARA (🌎)

Nicely done...
I drill mine out with a 4/5/8 inch but with drill press and use slate or some other durable top. Unscrew top for cleaning.

This looks like a great project for me!, i got the trees too!
Awesome, love it
So beautiful.
That's pretty cool nice job 👍
Could you tell me what band saw blade that is please.
Great projects.
Ohh i like it....im going to make this..from our oak tree ..

Thanks for the nice video!
What size band saw? I'm looking to buy a used one.
Excellent Out class idea appreciated
Need a bigger band saw. 😂 I will split my log like you showed, got a piece in the garage, what fun, thank you
What size do you suggest for the bird access hole?
1an1fort. No more than 1 and a half
@@davidwoodman3655 thank you, interesting ways was shown the hollowing out process!👍
@@davidwoodman3655 thanks!
Put a Metall ring around access hole, otherwise predators like woodpecker or squarel will get there easily. Better if it's not a ring, but short pipe.
Hi, could you not have used the woodturning lathe to hollow out your logs
Very nice nestbox. Love it. What species of wood did you use??
Free!!!!!!
Thank you!
Really well explained! Thanks
VERY NICE
So simply! All I can do in our kitchen...
Don't fix a perch under the hole as it gives predators something to sit on as it eats the young.
Nice one
where do you buy the hatchet and the rounded Az which you used in your video?
Another way is to use a large diameter boring bit like a 3"-4" one or stacked hole saws.
You could probably use a lathe to hollow out the middle
A bit more wasteful but it should still work
Those middle sections could in turn be hollowed out to make bird feeders!
perfetto 👍👍
I need to buy it where I can buy 1?
using an Electric Worx toy chainsaw. lol Cute !!!
Grt n amazing beautiful 👌👌
excellent
Great 👍👍👍
Just lovey
Tuyệt vời
C'est vraiment très joli !
👌 super coooool.txs
If you had a band saw, why would you use the chainsaw to make the cut for the roof pitch? Really dangerous.
he is showing people how to do it if they dont have a bandsaw
Why not use a lathe? It would only take about 5 minutes to hollow out a log.
Because it’s aimed at the masses, not carpenters with a fully developed workshop.
What's the idea of cutting the Log into 4 pieces after the band saw. I have made similar without cutting the Log up.
Obviously shows how to remove the centre if you don't have a bandsaw or power tools 🙄
Brilliant. And now I know what an adze is - as well as being a useful word in Scrabble.
