  • Taki is our 7 month old Lutino cockatiel. He is most likely a "she" but we call him a "he" anyways. His wings are uneven because of a botched clip job he had before we got him. Our avian vet has suggested letting them molt out and regrow. He will be fully flighted afterward.

I love building DIY parrot toys with Taki and letting him choose which parts and pieces he would like to use. His favorite toys, besides foraging and shredder toys, and bird safe plastic and/or metal rings with anything simulating a "stone". I made this "bird ring" using one pony bead and a plastic ring link from mysafebirdstore.com This video is in no way sponsored. I purchased the toy parts myself at full price, and I do not receive any compensation for suggesting their website or products.
If your bird has a habit of chewing holes in your clothing or chewing on your rings, take a stainless steel, unpainted safety pin and pin it to the inside of your shirt. On the outside of your shirt, use the safety pin to clip a toy to your shirt that's personalized to your parrot's preferences. If your bird continues trying to chew on your shirt or rings, redirect their attention with a different toy or by cuing them to do a trick that makes it impossible to chew on whatever you'd prefer they didn't chew on. Reward them with a treat and verbal praise for performing the trick. Eventually, if you are consistent enough and repeat this for long enough, your bird will lose interest in chewing holes in your clothing or chewing on your jewelry. If interest starts peaking again, simply repeat these steps until the bird loses interest again.
