And because, realistically, you would probably be going into the level with a reserve item (a super leaf, which doesn't exist in SMM2) and, that being the last chance to use it before the red coin section, you would probably end up using it there.
@TheEcliseFan I’ve beaten some relatively hard games before. Champion’s Road is very hard if you do it the intended way with no power-ups. It was one of my favorite levels in the game.
I am currently trying to 100% 3D World including beating all the levels as every character. I know this means i have to beat champions road 4 more times (I already beat it once as Mario) but i wont let that stop me. Edit: I already completed it.

I’m sorry if I’m wrong, but at 1:35, the lava balls can be bigger if you put a mushroom on top of it, then it should look cleaner if you space it out. (Side note: I play Mario maker, the first one on the Wii U.)

No, Champions Road has no checkpoints or power-ups. That’s one of the things I love about the original level. It’s brutally hard and I love it.

But are you allowed to change the speed of the blocks? Maybe that was why they used the contraption

It’s because the beep blocks can be faster in 3D World, and the only way to make it that difficult was the koopa shell contraption

Actually there are these sometime appearing, disappearing blocks in sm2
I think the reason they didn’t use the actual beat blocks was because the beat blocks don’t disappear at the right speed and the on/off blocks did.
