Though it's funny it can happen a lot in real life. Like when somebody cries and you say incompatible speech or you change the story when you and your friends are talking.
All the little things? I would say as an open world action game it gets a lot of big things right that no other game/developer can match to this day like physics, wanted system, NPC AI, and gameplay animations (minus Naughty Dog games). The performance on base PS4 is also impressively stable even when you are driving really fast through the city.
Well even gta san andreas did things better, you have barber shops, tattoo shops, you can eat ypurself to a fat bastard and then go to gym to work yourself either to a slim jim or a buff boy.. the cops actually patrol the city and give chase and all in all san andreas the city feels more alive than night city.. and all of this was on ps2..
"No graphics card can change how lifeless Night City is" This should be an automatic reply to people who keep hurling their specs throughout the comment sections
my city didnt feel lifeless and not to throw specs but I have a rtx 2060 and had very little issues with population density and activity with a budget build. It does seem like people with these stacked rigs didnt have a better play through than I did which is a huge issue cause I still agree that they failed miserably on this game but it was still amazing in as many ways as it was a failure.
I wouldn't call lifeless NPC with copy pasted diolog full of life It doents matter how many numbers of NPC you have on the screen, if they all can't seem to handle an event like normal people would maybe the game is dead inside
@@MechanicWolf85 Thats asking alot with the amount of npcs that are there. Dude, I hope they can do what fo76 did this year with one big DLC to fix the lifeless beautiful world they created. They need to add real crafting mechanics as well or just get rid of it.
Really? Sitting down on a seat is something you derive joy from? I feel people are putting this game in categories like red dead redemption or gta5 when it should be categorized with mass effect. It has few parts that are scripted and your usually given a choice that does have some effect on the world.
@@spacecowboy8295 lol really? from what i said you just nit pick and say sitting is the only thing i want? i myself got 120hrs in the game , how many hours have you played? have you explored the world outside of main quest and side quest? you wanna tell me the world is alive? CDPR said this will be the most immersive game we've ever seen, which part of it is immersive ? its supposed to be a next gen open world RPG, they promised a next gen game and i don't see any next gen elements other than graphics. I didnt compare it to any other game, but now you mentioned it, why do older games do such a better job in open world than this "Next gen" open world "immersion like we never seen before" game.
I chose the nomad path and got the Panam ending, I think that's the most immersive option in the game. I personally think the game has a good story and good mission storylines but that's it Edit: take note that I said mission storylines not mission gameplay
Outside of atmosphere of the city (especially the cool buildings and verticaly) and the story missions with the side missions, this game is nothing. Against GTA 5, this game cant hold a candle. Strong story missions + side missions with great atmosphere of the city, but inside its a bugged mess, as soon as you drive or interact with an NPC the mess shows up. There are issues with the game on a fundamental level, AI is not just bugged, it doesnt even work.
The game should have just stick to one route. Instead of giving an illusion of choice. It's clear that the game focused most on streetkid path and panam as the main love interest. I mean most if not all of the jobs are street job like clearing thugs, cyberpsycho, etc no corpo job at all the only nomad jobs are with panam. Panam always show up and affectionately care deeply for you as she is the only romance option that can work with you in the endgame even if you don't romance her. So why bother giving river or kerry a role if you never going to hear them other than from a side quest that have no impact at all
@@ghostsdragon9222 We won't, not from CDPR anyway. The only reason Witcher 3 has mod support is because the modders themselves created said support. CDPR couldn't care less about modding or their customers in general.
"CDPR kept adding features and never finished implementing the existing ones" TBH this is a common issue in companies that develop software. I worked as a backend dev and the management wanted many flashy eye catching features that will attract attention but didn't seem to care much about actually producing a working system. Whether the companies are to blame, or the industry where everyone has high expectations and if you don't show shiny ideas you will fail, is up for debate.
Most companies are led by extroverts with A.D.D. who believe that every idea that pops into their head is a winner and must be executed, they don't think about the bigger picture or the result. There arent enough devs in the industry to stop them and say, "wait a minute we have a backlog of 100 other features we need to finish, lets clear the backlog and then we will implement your impulsive, spur of the moment idea", probably because those devs are not seen as "team players" and most executives have fragile egos and God complex. Software development is slow, methodical and scientific process which is completely antithetical to the corporate rush. Executive psychopaths are always imposing unrealistic and unnecessary deadlines for devs, "we have to be first to market", "we have to meet the holidays shopping rush", "if we dont get this out NOW our competitors will release a better product".
@@BillClinton228 These are actually valid reasons for releasing your product at a specific date. The problem is when the management ignores the obvious consequences of these deadlines. Ideally if you can't give the devs enough time, you cut features. It's painful to do, but the alternative is worse. And if you aren't sure what you can finish in time, design the product in a way to not depend on features you might not have time to implement, design a "minimum viable product" and then make a prioritized "nice to have" list where nothing depends on anything below it. This game was obviously not done that way.
@@sweatyslapfight7900 Yeah I see it more when on a bike obviously. But the game could've used cut scenes for more major parts of the story. Like the scene of meeting with Dex after the heist didn't feel as good as the 2019 e3 video. They wanted to go the RPG route, which is traditionally first person with no cut scenes. I would care more about that if there was some sort of transmog system or armor was part of another mechanic. As it stood I mostly had to wear mismatched clothing. It would've made more sense anyway to make it part of the cyberwear system. Still, these days with dynamic cut scenes I really like them.
@@sweatyslapfight7900 Same fucking deal with Destiny which is a damn shame. That's why I quit after Destiny1, worst part is they can enable them but won't. Seems pointless spending cash or ingame money to customize a character which you won't see a lot. It is bullshit!
For me Cyberpunk ended perfectly, by crashing to the desktop during the credits right when the quality assurance team was scrolling. This was a perfect ending to the whole experience, a cherry on a shit cake. Even if CDP will miraculously fix the game bugs, I still have no reason to play it again as almost no choice in the game gives a meaningfully different outcome, the different backgrounds are barely window dressing and Night City feels as artificial as Liberty City in GTA 3 would feel today. The main story focuses mostly on Keanu Reeves not V and it hinges on the player liking Silverhand as a character to work, and since I found him to be a cringy edge lord, it all fell flat for me.
I can’t even put into words how good it feels to finally hear a review that actually calls out what I’ve been questioning myself when playing this game.
Especially the emptiness. It seems like the majority of the reviewers just don't realize how dead the world feels. Like you block somebody with a car, and they are just quietly sitting and waiting like robots. Then you get out with frustration, shoot somebody, just for other people not really giving a shit, and the police spawning on your eyes. Then you start imagining this epic police chase through the city with tons of traffic but realize that this doesn't go any further than your imagination and that all the traffic that you see is a few cars on a HUGE road. So sad. I was really expecting some small crowds and many cars, taxis, busses, vans, etc. driving around like in a real city. Then we got this: i.ytimg.com/vi/PEbMrFxOfq0/maxresdefault.jpg

Sorry i fail to comprehend. Its a basic gangster story with a bunch of civilians on map with no value.... That you can shoot as you please get away from crops as you please and face no consequences. And your being forced in the mission parameters. The only difference is that CYBERPUNK's cop mechanic was godawful. So what consequences is running from cops? Not some deep moral dilemma on what you are what you should be and what you should do like the main story. Its just pointless filler like in GTA to keep your monkey brain occupied. its all a lifeless predetermined path in my opinion. So giving you 5 options before the ending and at least 2 in every sidequest. When those games that are full of life give you a mission. I fail to even comprehend your viewpoint.

My biggest problem is the street, corpo and nomad. Theres little to none diffrence, besides the 20 min intro. I really thought that playing as a corpo, will be more into business talk, dark secrets, military etc, nomad being outside the city entierly almost, and street kid, well being a street kind... but it isnt like that. Almost like GTA 5, Franklin = Street Kid. Michael = Corpo. Trevor = Nomad. But still, its like, the same character. :(

Exactly. And this is why things like Deus Ex, Dishonored, and Thief will always be better and exponentially more immersive games than The Witcher or Cyberpunk.
ill add this about cyberpunk 2077, the game is just... its just ok. its nothing special, the leveling is pretty basic, but its not anything like the witcher perks. a lot of perks in the game feel like just filler, and all the cybernetics you can buy are lackluster and purely a numbers game. the perks are basic and nothing stands out to me, the game requires a ton of grinding in crafting to bring your iconic weapons up to par, which you have to dump a bunch of stat points into technical to keep leveling up crafting. there are also no interesting cybernetics outside of the arm and leg slot for double jumps and cool cyber weapons like the monowire or mantis blades which are sort of lackluster even though they're level locked. as for cosmetics, you cant get a metal arm, cant get a gold leg, cant roleplay as a corpo/street kid/nomad outside of a few voice lines, and you cant change appearance ever once you exit the creation menu. the background option is so short and has almost no bearing on the rest of the game. with the option of 6 dicks to choose from, maybe a few other voice actors for V, somewhere between the hyper masculine man and deep breathy butch wouldve been nice, or not have gender be tied to the voice? it feels pointless to make a femenine dude character when your pronouns are defined by whether your voice is hyper masculine or not. im not playing Geralt, the amount of game breaking builds in this game is pretty high. currently i scan people, then shoot them through walls of any thickness with a sniper rifle instantly killing them. there doesn't seem to really be a point to the game besides "look at how cool and detailed this world is" and yeah. its detailed. but static. the atmospheric npcs repeat to the point of seeing the same dude crossing his own patch multiple times. for the amount of references to other games in this, they could've put in a npc fashion randomizer. the game just feels like its missing content that it shouldve had. the amount of polished art in the game cant compensate for the lack of creativity in weapons, perks, progression, and what a player would want. the cosmetics and voice acting is me just griping, but it feels like a good note to end 2020 on, with the most anticipated game in a long time not living up to the hype. the creativity for this game at some points is spectacular and gripping, but none of its in the main story line. the main story line feels like a chore compared to the beautiful side quests that actually allow me to be the character i want to be. the npcs you meet for these side quests are unforgettable, and definetly setting a new gold standard.
Yeah the game like...... sucks. Or is at most underwhelming. That's what a lot of fans don't seem to want to admit. People want to pretend it's great outside the bugs when it's just mediocre
Better funn i have in Sleeping Dogs, GTA V, Assassin's Creed Origins, Far Cry 5, Rage 2, Fallout 4, Animal Crossing, Monster Hunter... Cyberpunk is a crap. Damn CDPR. Greeting from Poland.
THANK YOU for this. This whole thing has just put a spotlight on how the industry (everyone from media to influencers and even Sony/Microsoft) gave obvious preferential treatment to CDPR. Removing the bugs does not make this good enough to warrant getting a 9/10. They've done rather shallow lip-service to not just in-game systems but also a cyberpunk world and dystopian lore. Don't know the internal situation. Maybe there was some internal reshuffling when they went public etc and people were moved around. But it's nowhere close to what CDPR used to churn out - with likely less money, people and time. I know the dev team is blaming management for "unrealistic launch timelines etc" but they had 8 frikkin years. It was a bad move to say it was ready when it was not. But why was it not ready after 8 frikkin years and 3 delays? Everyone had a hand in this disaster, and it's frankly disheartening to see internal finger-pointing within CDPR.
They almost definitely didnt start working on cyberpunk until they were done with witcher 3, which was in 2016. Realistically the game was in development for about 4 years, with more and more features being promised. The end result is that management set an impossibke date for the game they were making and tons of content had to be scrapped or left underbaked. But the devs focused on the stuff they knew they could nail, the design of the world and storyline is just so damn good. Unfortunately the open world and some gameplay elements just end up feeling hollow, so you kind of have to treat them as set dressing..
I would agree that the devs are at least partly to blame for the glossing over of cyberpunk themes or relevant issues in the game, but apart from that I'm sure that CDPR would have released a much better product with a more reasonable release date. You have to remember that the only reason the game was delayed so many times was because of the dates set by management. And after god knows how many hours of forced overtime, I realy wouldn't blame the devs for creating an inferior product. With more time, the story and world might not have delved that much deeper into the cyberpunk theme, but at a bare minimum the AI and gameplay systems would have been as good as The Witcher's. The studio can't become less capable overnight.
I don't follow CDPR drama too closely, but it was my impression that most of the people responsible for the Witcher series are not with the company anymore and were not involved with Cyberpunk?
@@KotsarisGR If that's true, CDPR might as well just buy the rights to a sports franchise and start pumping out FIFA-style games like EA, lol. I thought maybe they had 2 teams; one that works on Witcher, one that was working on 2077. No wonder the writing regressed so much from TW3. In my first few hours I remember thinking "the inventory system feels like a CDPR game, but nothing else does" Was able to finish the game on PC and its okay. Would I want a sequel? Meh. I was thinking they should go back to making Witcher games, but if all the talent that made them special are gone, maybe its best they just leave the franchise alone. Hate to say it as TW3 is one of my favorite games ever made, but I don't want another Mass Effect Andromeda situation.

"How can you immerse yourself in a world that blocks your every attempt to interact with it". Good point. I thing it's just visually immersive. We'll have to use our imagination to think there is a world alive out there :(. Walkingpunk 2077.
I really don't get this argument, okay so you want to be able to talk to anyone and the get the same vanilla line like in skyrim, that feels more immersion breaking than talking to who you have to, I really don't know what people get out of it
@Sterman99 though I completely agree with what you just said, I don't actually like GTA5 or RDR2, I think it's the RS design philosophy, I feel like this is why I used skyrim and not those games, because CP an RPG and not a sim, I'm not going to make excuses for the game and say it isn't flawed in any way, but it's like in GTA5 or RDR2 to me has so much stuff I'm not interested in to do, I'm playing CP for the story and side quests and the world around me just needs to sell the illusion enough for me to feel like it's a living world going about it's day without me getting involved The reason why I mention skyrim cause as an RPG the AI constantly talking to you from a far and just going about there time and getting into jank situations, where yes Skyrim is dated I really preferred the way CDPR handled it in the witcher 3 and CP since yeah they may be standing around and shit but I'm not going to waste my time watching someone do nothing, I just feel even though they could be better which I wouldn't complain about it's like people were trying to compare to GTA and RDR2 too much which has helped in forming people's misguided expectations, even go back to the witcher and they are pretty much the same I guess it really just comes down to the fact that I'm not out here trying to commit crimes in the game or play it like a sim so it really doesn't effect me, I do empathise but I've been having a great time with these problems not applying to me so I'm trying not to tell you how you should be playing, I just hope you get where I'm coming from
Well, it was mainly focused on the negative, and those negatives were probably a little too emphasized. Is that worse than The Witcher 3? The NPCs are also replying with a 1-line unless they're main NPCs, there is no real interaction with the world either. They're actually very comparable. Too bad they couldn't build the perfect world but if you focus on the story and the sidequests (not the "garbage" quests), isn't that worth it? **However** we cannot accept let these marketing abuses, even if other publishers play the same game. That's how trust is established or destroyed, and now we know where CDPR stands. I regret the press is unable to provide us with real scores that reflect a game state or shortcomings vs what was advertised.
@@punchforpound2808 First of al, transsexualism is a slur, the term is transgender. Secondly, you cannot speak on behalf of people you don't know. There are plenty of people in the LGBT+ community unhappy with CDPR. They have placed numerous transphobic tweets over the years. The outrage for the LGBT+ community isn't over the poster. It's how the poster (that the devs have claimed is something put in the game to rebel against as the player) was used as a sleezy marketing tool by CDPR to market their game. So basically, they used something they put in the game to show how evil this mega corporate highly advertised world is..... to advertise their product. There's much more to it with how the character creator is great in how it allows for almost any gender, but it then goes ahead and genders the player depending on the characters voice, which is a huge, basically nightmarish, anxiety amongst trans people. Also, on the word SJW, I don't think these people actually exist? It seems to be an easy way to lump people into a unlikable category when they have an opinion you disagree with.
@@LukeSparrow221 yeah there's no criticism of the ads in game and most of the corps are just in the background. The setting honestly feels wasted there's only one questline in the game that uses it's setting effectively which is disappointing. As someone who identifies as non-binary the character creator is limiting especially given they made a big deal about removing "gender options" whilst keeping it with the voice options. Personally I feel like representation within rpgs is more important than other genre's as it would allow for greater self-expression and freedom.
@@LukeSparrow221 let's run through some logic for a second. The point of the sexualisation in the in-game advertising was as a critique of where we're going as a society, within capitalism. As in the hyper comodification of sexuality. Do you agree that trans people should be treated like every other person? If hyper-sexualisation is how all other people are treated within the game's lore. Shouldn't trans people be treated exactly the same? I don't get where these arguments and gripes are coming from. If you want trans people to be accepted you cannot treat them like a special class of people. That is never going to work. This is why people just stop engaging with this kind of topic.
@@LukeSparrow221 I use the term to describe people who think they are tackling real world issues when really they're just punching air and usually doing what they do for selfish reasons. I'm all for LGBT+ peoples, but some are just in it for the wrong reasons, hence the term SJW.
@GiRayne I have been describing this as having two open worlds layered on top of each other- not one coherent open world. The environments and such look great, but it's like the AI were coded entirely separate from the roads and world. The number of times I have found duplicate NPCs right next to each other is crazy. Something too that I noticed before even leaving my apt. Building is that there are only 4 foods served and consumed in all of cyberpunk- burgers, hotdogs, fries in cones, and skewers... But yea, it's been very clear to me that immersion and bugs are highly subjective terms given how many people flaunt never experiencing a single bug or how enveloping Night City is.
The issue with Cyberpunk for me wasn’t the bugs, but rather the fact the game got eaten up by its own ambition. CDPR spent so much time trying to make the game everything that they lost any sense of direction the game had.
I diagree with this whole video... after I had his exact same complaints at first.. but with more time with the game... it all changes for you. You can one shot enemies from stealth, there are cars that handle well.
I get this is probably the most likely answer but what I don't get is the choices they made. For example loot and weapons. Why did they choose that system? It would strike me as easier and made more sense you get base weapons (SMG, Sniper, Assualt, Pistol etc) then the upgrade progression would be through modding (actual mods you can see on the guns you're using) and then add customization. So you get that feel of this is your gun but also enable progression. COD does a better job at this. Hell Fallout New Vegas does it better. Instead they went with the loot systems of Destiny and The Division. Literally nobody says I love *my* guns in those games (they have great controls), so why would they choose it? They just become throw away disposable. In a world with augmented enhancements plugged into their brains it makes MORE sense you'd see direction markers on the road. They could have gone further and included actual voice directions. They choose The Division's loot system but ignore the way it desplays its map and directions? I don't get it. Their choices are all wrong.
@@b3at2 Only 1 thing you disagree with and now you disagree with the whole video? So the rest 40 minutes dont matter at all to you? Shitty AI, physics, the whole open world? And you have to play over 30 hours to be decent and kill with one shots. 30 hours is an overkill for a lot of people.

@@Yolo_Swagins yea people are just frustrated with the game. but i do agree with alot of points made. The stories, i love, the missions, i love, the open world, hell no, many other open worlds do it better and for such a beautiful city, there is no immersive things to do, things that make u feel like you are living in the game. Idk how they can make such a pretty city, and u cant do shit in it, even the R rated stuff in the game is watered down. GTA 4 and san andreas have better romance system than cyberpunk and better things to do aside from story missions. You could even go on dates. Go out with friends. All of that was fun to me in GTA. i just wanna feel like a person with a life in the city.
@@KingSavy100 I agree but I think that's a pipedream. This is CDPRs first title like this(obviously built on the bones of witcher). GTA got to where it was by many sequels and iterations. So I think by the time they get to cyberpunk 2077 part 3 they may have something like that.
@@Yolo_Swagins He has the point. Did you even question about it? Go to this man, talk to him, shoot this guy, come back for reward. That's whole lackluster mission design. And then you're considered as a hero and they know you very much like they've been there for you in whole life. Wth is with this trash story? It is lackluster.
I remember how shocked I was when I saw the wanted level and cops ai for the first time on a supposed next gen game. a total killer for me. Like how could you design a game so badly when you have a team of people at a big company for 12 years. makes no sense, like what went wrong ???
lol they dont have anybody for 12 years. Nobody works for more than 1 project because how horrible of a workplace it is. Thats why all the witcher games look and feel very different than each other. Nobody in the new project knows how to work on the already existing features and they have to reinvent the wheel again and again. Also all the trailer were fake, including for CP77
I'm new and this made me want him to stay. If this is a "low effort video," I'm cool with seeing more. Doesn’t need to be fluffy or flashy, just honest.
Still cannot get over how short the main story is. I knew it’d be shorter than the witcher 3 but maaaaaaan I was so disappointed when I got to that elevator where it tells you you’re about to finish the game
The length of the main story in my opinion is the biggest blow to the longevity of the game. Its just so short! You can play Skyrim for 200 hours and still not do everything you need to do in the game! In cyberpunk you can complete all the main quests and important side quests in less than 30 hours and its really disappointing because thats all there is in terms of quests! Night city is just such a big beautiful world with so much potential and its wasted by the number of quests.....
@@toughmunths No you can not 🤣 What the hell are you talking about. I hear that so many times and most of the time an image of kerry even makes them "Who is that"
You said of Fallout: New Vegas being one of the most immersive experiences even beyond the awful looks, I'm inclined to agree. I play all games through the first time as the paragon, then as an intelligent manipulator, hell-bent on taking ALL for myself. The only game ever to know or "foresee" that I was playing the "long-game" was FNV. Mr House called me out, insinuating I understood about something in which I was trying to be coy and underhanded. Cyberpunk 2077 is barely an RPG in comparison. I've played 70+ hours of the broken mess and have deleted it unfinished because too many quest lines can't be completed because of bugs. I'm very disappointed.
Spot on man! When I hear someone call night city or this game in general "immersive" I think to myself "Was I playing the same game as this guy?" Nothing gets my blood pumping like spending an upgrade level point on "2% damage increase with pistols". OOOOOooooooOOOOooooooooOOOOOoooooooooOOOOOOO exciting stuff!
I'd been searching the internet with queries like "what can you do in cyberpunk" and "do cops/gangs care if you kill them etc". Definitely convinced i was playing the game wrong. I was so confused watching the glowing reviews on TH-cam, glad i stumbled across this. After the cutscene sitting with jackie at the food stall i found i was stupidly mourning not being able to just sit and eat at shops. And as soon as we team up with Jackie and are met with a cutscene of a montage of friendship adventures we don't get to have i was like oh, this isn't gonna be one of them ludo-narrative meditations huh hahaha. I was also thinking back to gta2; how ancient games like that ended up creating emergent gameplay through simple game design rules. I dunno. I'm a little bummed and rambling. Sorry.
You're not alone. I don't hate the game but as it currently stands the it is a shell of what it was supposed to be. There is some meat there but in the form we already know. Looking at it after playing the Witcher 3 it is literally nearly the same but in the future. Mainly when you look at the map you know what they failed on and when you see it is mainly a bunch of side quests and stuff it makes me worried that they had just talked up this huge insane RPG idea an while some of it was there most was concept. So when it came down to it the features that were supposed to be game changers were too difficult to figure out and got canned. What worries me most of all is that they are essentially done with this game meaning they will do bug fixes and such but we'll NEVER get to see this game that THEY hyped the fak out of for 8 years.
Seriously. Even something as "mundane" as being able to go to one of the random food shops, sit down, order something, and just chill and eat, would've added to the immersion. That would be so rad.
I'm clueless since I don't own the game and don't know the lore. So to take out gangs, you can only shoot them? Is there no other way around like kidnap them or something else? that just sounds like the USA to me lol
I get it from a world building point of view, but why would you necessarily want the game to play for you? I personally hate using auto pilot in games but that’s just me
“At any given moment, V looks like she got dressed by covering herself in tar and running through Elton John’s closet” LMAO. Agreed. I recommend turning down the difficulty so you can wear whatever you want even if it sucks, that’s what I did.
I wish that they had a system like AC Odyssey where you can pick outfits you've already picked up and reskin your current fit. I've only had V dressed up semi decent once, then I found a bitch skirt that was better.
Me too 😂, but sadly he's totally right. My V looks like a fuckin idiot most of the time. I guess I'll get into crafting soon in order to make him not look insane!
@@seriousdamage3339 What things he says is wrong? his video convinced me to not play the game atleast until later. If he's wrong that would interest me.
Your analysis is basically confirming my assumptions and fears; there are fundamental issues with how CDPR has built and designed this game and it shows, regardless of the bugs/stability.
Yup they wanted it to be too many things at once and ends up failing to be anything other than a decent story with some good characters but not really an exceptional rpg/open world/shooter etc
@@RPanda3S Did you play, or looking on trailers of bugs? Cyberpunk is Witcher level of quests and story, destiny gunplay, oryginal deus ex freedom gameplay, dying light exploring city and secound best driving in open world games.
I mean we still do, Doom Eternal, Ghost of Tsushima, most Nintendo games. Hell even TLOU 2 sucked ass but at least it was complete....not many of them sure, but there still are...
This game looks dumb as hell. A open world that looks incredibly outdated. Compare this to Sleeping Dogs or 2008's Gta 4 . People have incredibly low standards.
I've tried to like this game so much. I didn't know exactly why I felt disconnected with the game and the world in it but you just described everything I've felt (and a bit more, I'm sure). This video also made me very anxious in a "oh my god I need to call this guy immediately and discuss this" way. I feel "desperate" (in an exaggerated way, of course) to discuss these issues with someone that is willing to accept that this game is far from the masterpiece it is being painted as. This REALLY makes me want to make my own video take on Cyberpunk - although I'm not really a youtuber. I have to say that I'm kinda angry at you for saying bad things (to which I agree) about a game for which I had high expectations and payed so much for. Thank you so much for that. I do hope you scratch that "I'm not doing this for long" because you did such an amazing job on this one.
I was watching a streamer play the game, and they found out the npcs aren't even static moment to moment. He ran around the block and every time he did a new npc would be in the hot dog stand. One was asian, one was a women, and then just other generic models. This was just by doing a 30 second lap around the area. Basically if you're not close by the game will just reset the npcs. Very low effort.
A lot of that has to do with practical limitations. Do you have a 128 gb of ram? No and most people don't either so it spawns and despawn an npc as needed. This is an unreasonable expectation.
@@u13erfitz First i have 32GB of RAM and NPC will use more CPU and not much RAM. An NPC model would take a bit more ram than a trashcan placed in the world. Second i work with Unreal Engine and know a bit of game making. You can store the model of an NPC or the model of a car as a number which takes almost no space. Third-Any 3d game does not render models that are out of sight. Calling the expectations "unrealistic" is an uneducated guess by you. How can GTA San Andreas do it so many years ago. How can RDR2 do it? The developer was lazy or took the cheat route.
@@u13erfitz Not really since there are ways to optimize these things by only storing the most relevant information. For instance, I feel that most people wouldn't notice if the people walking on the street (especially the other side of the street) were different, but static NPCs will certainly stick out. Thus, you could divide NPCs into two subclasses (minimum, that is, if they're not already divided by different criteria, but even then you could attach attributes). Then create an array that stores the important data of the last however many NPCs the player has come in contact with. This wouldn't need to be the same as storing the entire object, just a reference to their [x, y, z] coords and the model. Then you could unload them as needed. When the game needs to load NPCs in at any point, it checks first to see if any of the NPCs in the array match with the position it's trying to spawn one, and if so references that spot in the array to create the "same" NPC as before. You could also automatically store all NPCs for a period of, say, 30 seconds so that they don't change every time you turn your back. This is a similar thing to what a lot of games do to store global entities. Data compaction through abstraction is a pretty fundamental concept in CS in regards to optimization. If you're confused as to how it could cut down on the RAM and processing power necessary, just understand that you are deleting the object and just storing the most fundamental information necessary to uphold the illusion that you didn't delete it. Considering how basic the AI seems to be, it shouldn't be too difficult to apply to this game (that is, if they haven't already put in some sort of system that would make it considerably harder).
They cut out most of the uncompleted features that they promised in the last 2 years, to launch the game on Dec. 10. This game is unfinished, simple as that.

You're honestly too modest. You said this video is 'low effort content', but honestly this is the real problem with the game. I was lucky enough to play with minimal bugs on PC, since i got a new gaming PC in November with a RTX 3080. So I was really fortunate enough to play with only a few bugs, none of which were game breaking (such as being bald in the mirror). The gameplay is really quite shallow with crappy interfaces. They should have not made it a looter shooter and also not done a crafting system like the Witcher 3. It suits a fantasy game but not so much an open world rpg with a strong fps element. That said it's hard to call it an rpg as there is almost no role playing in most main quests and even side quests like in the Witcher 3.
Not to mention the decision making here is nowhere near Witcher 3. The game basically just makes an impression of having variety of playthroughs. You can choose at least three dialogue options everytime but nothing really has any impact here. For example in Cunningham subplot it does not matter whether you side with NetWatch or VoodooBoys, it does not affect anything in the game. Cunnigham will help you no matter what you do. And that goes for everything. The 5 different endings are determined just by finishing several side quests not by HOW you played them. Therefore each and every one of the endings are determined by on spot one time decision you can go back to by loading your save. Also storywise it felt like act 2 was so thin, act 3 had just handful of quests. I ended the game including all side jobs under 38 hours and that is laughable compared to the Witcher 3.
@@lukea3262 care to elaborate? I thought this was a discussion under the game's review. I am explaining in details why the narrative structure and decision making is behind the devs' promises and in fact is worse than their previous 5 years old game. If you think otherwise I would love to know the reasons.
I guess it is a valid point that there are so few differences in height, but there are kids in the game. Does seem strange to only have... I guess its two heights then? Except for... what I guess must be special NPCs.
Meanwhile I'm totally immersed in the world in Ac Vahalla. Immersive, detailed, visually stunning, tons of activities to do, variety of animals, locations, NPCs etc.
I think you are selling yourself short calling the introduction section the "angry ranty bit". You seemed incredibly measured and restrained while even admitting to anger in the process. You summed up in a nutshell why customers have every right to be angry, and why we should all turn a critical eye towards the entire industry as of late. For my part, I have largely scaled back all purchases lately, mostly waiting for a good long while before making a purchase, often from upstart developers. The whole industry has had a cloak of corruption creep in over the years.
Exactly, there is this guy I forgot his name, but he perfectly put everything what I thought about Super Mario Odyssey into a 2-hour long video. I just had problems with the game, but couldnt really pinpoint them.
So far this is the most truthful and in depth review of the game, most of the reviewers were way too forgiving and what he is saying is also exactly what I felt during the game and was a bit dumbfounded when everyone else was praising the game. I imagined it was going to get a backslash like Mass affect Andromeda did and get mostly 6 and 7 from reviews but no it was all 10 and 9, I guess not being EA really does help a big deal.
The AI and police is so underwhelming! I wish it was more like: 1 star: Police on foot come to investigate and engage combat 2 stars: Police in vehicles arrive and engage combat. They could also follow you in their vehicles if you try to escape 3 stars: Heavily armed SWAT arrive to engage in combat. Police will also set up roadblocks to prevent you from escaping. 4 stars: All police back off and stop following you and there is a moment of silence before the MAX-TAC comes to take you out. The AI is way too shallow, I really hope they get an entire rework.
You mean like GTA has been doing for over 20 years now? The fact they could not even try to copy GTA police system is sad they just made police magically spawn and unable to chase the player at all.
@@chrisrawr6177 I mean, Rockstar are ridiculously good at making immersive worlds through functional mechanics like that. But yeah, after GTA V especially I think that quality of police AI in these types of games should adhere to Rockstar's standards.
They made the purchase of each vehicle its own side mission and littered the map with icons that look just like ones for actual missions. I think we can all agree that purchasing a vehicle is not a fucking side mission.
i think we can all agree that crybabys like you complaining about icons on the map instead of focusing on the gameplay should be banned from making reviews
Your point about feature creep... I feel like that was the biggest poison for this game. The upper officers of the company wanted something that would break ALL OF THE RECORDS and have ALL OF THE MARKETING POINTS, and then all of the people who were building it never saw a day where their buckets weren't overflowing with tasks. Probably caused by poor workflow and the managers having no idea how to fix it except to crack the whips harder - which clearly did not pan out. They had a house of cards that kept collapsing under its own weight until the word came from on high to get the damn thing out the door, come hell or high water.
When a game specifically advertised around modification and customization of everything does not have the feature that even GTA: San Andreas had 16 years ago, you know you screwed up.
The world just feels lifeless because there's none of that amazing interactivity that other open-world games strive for. Literally, the only side activity I've encountered is hiring a prostitute. I'd even be happy if they just had a reskinned version of Gwent or if those nice looking arcade cabinets and Pachinko machines were actually playable. Compare this game to Red Dead 2 where there is so much variety in what you can do in that open-world; I mean there's gambling, fishing, hunting, bounty hunting, magic shows, and an entire virtual camp where you can interact with the Van Der Linde Gang. All of that content is completely optional but the fact that it's still there makes the game world feel alive. Cyberpunk lacks any kind of creativity or artistic flair in that department. Sure even on a base PS4, the artistic design of Night City is amazing but it frankly feels like window dressing when compared to Red Dead 2 and the most depressing thing is the fact that both developers had around 7-8 years to create these games. Red Dead 2 isn't perfect by any means but Rockstar still showed a lot of passion when it came to the game's development. Edit: I wrote this comment before the point in the video where he addressed this.
Agreed, no way they could of done it to the scale of night city. Also this game only started development In 2016. red dead 2 only released on consoles initially. They tried releasing this game on current gen, next gen, PC and stadia all at the same time. They were doomed lol
@@matthewwheeldon668 from the few hours I played of it; The npcs had more of a purpose and the taverns, towns and villages had a way more interesting atmosphere than Night City.
The moment I saw that cyberpunk 2077 have below 100GB size I knew that this game won't be as immersive as rdr2. Games that have big size like rdr2 is what make the game fully immersive imo. But yes size isn't everything though haha. I just feels something was off when I saw cyberpunk 2077 only have around 70GB and yep the game is full of bugs and there's so much that lacks in this game. But I still play it hahaha.. *sigh*
Dang that's sad to hear. I appreciate why doing this TH-cam thing is probably not worth the time and work investment for the outcome but I'd love to see more of your work in one shape or another.
Even your ‘low effort’ content is monumentally essential given the state of game ‘journalism’ nowadays as you stated in your opening rant. We NEED more videos like these.
I've been waiting 45 years for video game critique to catch up with the technology that produces it, and almost without exception, it hasn't. The dismantling of mainstream journalism, the disheartening state of public education in many parts of the world, most notably the US, and the rise of influencer culture have all actively worked to undermine thoughtful, intelligent commentary on and about media. It's a real shame that TH-cam and most every other mainstream gaming content has lowered the bar to such a degree that Chris is willing to throw in the towel rather than continuing to offer his well-thought out observations on games. AAA gaming is a corrupt racket, play games you like, support smaller developers, and never pre-order games.

Sounds like you had a similar problem with the gameplay that I did, in that Cyberpunk would seemingly work better if it leaned into the Deus Ex style of gameplay as opposed to the Borderlands style of gameplay.
@@dinar8749 It’s very much in between. My first play through I went full stealth and it was Deus Ex in every way but name. Second play through I’ve gone full blown combat and it’s more Borderlands in the way enemies are bullet sponges outside of headshots/crits and weapons are swapped out constantly. The loot system is like Fallout 4 in that you spend an absurd amount of time picking up scissors and beer bottles but without a proper crafting system and projects to put the materials to, it all seems a little pointless. Outside of main story missions, the gameplay consists of going from spot to spot clearing out gangs much like in Saints Row 3. Leaving aside the beauty of the Cyberpunk world, it really has all the soul and interactability of Saints Row. The narrative is the true strength of 2077. It’s at it’s best when it tries to be a Naughty Dog game and leaves the gameplay at the door.

The lead guy of Warhorse that made Kingdom Come:Deliverance also got backlash for the same reason. He even noted that Black people weren't in Poland in 1403 AD. It is a historically accurate game and he isn't putting Black people in the game, which wouldn't be historically accurate. This has nothing to do with Trump or Republican beliefs at all. The issue of the cars and pathing reminds me of how incredibly good GTA IV was when it came to that. If you got in the way, they’d beep at you, try to drive around you, or even push your vehicle out of the way to pass, and all of those functions were made and implemented over 12 years ago....
"People wanna hear nice things about the game they ordered two years ago." THIS! They also want to say nice things, which is why there are so many comments here on TH-cam and Steam saying the game is phenomenal. LIKE HOW? It's lacking major RPG and immersion elements, how is that phenomenal?
Nearly three years later, and while they’ve fixed majority of the bugs and made a lot of improvements, it’s still half baked and nowhere near what we were promised.
It's a better game. But it's a completely LIFELESS game, without any advanced AI scripting. It's laughably bad. There's less bugs, but there are obvious bugs still. Skill tree is much better, combat is much better. But there still are issues. It looks fantastic on my 4090 in RT Overdrive with path tracing. This can't be understated, it's a huge achievement. But the AI is still awful.
I think the best way to explain how this game feels is by looking at a scene from the final mission: there was this big discussion about friendship, family, etc.. beautiful stuff, I was almost crying but then I look at the crowd around me... the same npc 4 times , 2 guys trying to make a fusion, literally EVERY cigar was floating i lost all emotion...
That's the game in a nutshell right there. It's really well written, as expected from CDPR, but the gameplay, the ai, and the bizarrely limited assets are constantly shooting it in the foot. And the world is huge, but there are massive stretches of absolutely fuck all. Oh and CDPR still can't design an inventory and upgrade system that isn't utterly, eyepoppingly incomprehensible.

If there's second hand market, then the item is most likely not a consumable. This is a matter of semantics and it is incredibly important to remember, because corporate interests are trying their hardest to ingrain in end users' minds that we consume, and hence can't sell our games, or even actually own them in their ideal world. The nomad lifepath takes 5 mins to end up in the linear path lol.
I chose the nomad path and got the Panam ending, I think that's the most immersive option in the game. I personally think the game has a good story and good mission storylines but that's it
Edit: take note that I said mission storylines not mission gameplay

"CDPR kept adding features and never finished implementing the existing ones"
TBH this is a common issue in companies that develop software. I worked as a backend dev and the management wanted many flashy eye catching features that will attract attention but didn't seem to care much about actually producing a working system. Whether the companies are to blame, or the industry where everyone has high expectations and if you don't show shiny ideas you will fail, is up for debate.
I believe it's called "feature creep"
@@BillClinton228
These are actually valid reasons for releasing your product at a specific date.

For me Cyberpunk ended perfectly, by crashing to the desktop during the credits right when the quality assurance team was scrolling. This was a perfect ending to the whole experience, a cherry on a shit cake. The main story focuses mostly on Keanu Reeves not V and it hinges on the player liking Silverhand as a character to work, and since I found him to be a cringy edge lord, it all fell flat for me.

ill add this about cyberpunk 2077, the game is just... its just ok. its nothing special, the leveling is pretty basic, but its not anything like the witcher perks. a lot of perks in the game feel like just filler, and all the cybernetics you can buy are lackluster and purely a numbers game. the perks are basic and nothing stands out to me, the game requires a ton of grinding in crafting to bring your iconic weapons up to par, which you have to dump a bunch of stat points into technical to keep leveling up crafting. there are also no interesting cybernetics outside of the arm and leg slot for double jumps and cool cyber weapons like the monowire or mantis blades which are sort of lackluster even though they're level locked. as for cosmetics, you cant get a metal arm, cant get a gold leg, cant roleplay as a corpo/street kid/nomad outside of a few voice lines, and you cant change appearance ever once you exit the creation menu. the background option is so short and has almost no bearing on the rest of the game. with the option of 6 dicks to choose from, maybe a few other voice actors for V, somewhere between the hyper masculine man and deep breathy butch wouldve been nice, or not have gender be tied to the voice? it feels pointless to make a femenine dude character when your pronouns are defined by whether your voice is hyper masculine or not. im not playing Geralt,
the amount of game breaking builds in this game is pretty high. currently i scan people, then shoot them through walls of any thickness with a sniper rifle instantly killing them.
there doesn't seem to really be a point to the game besides "look at how cool and detailed this world is"
and yeah. its detailed. but static. the atmospheric npcs repeat to the point of seeing the same dude crossing his own patch multiple times. for the amount of references to other games in this, they could've put in a npc fashion randomizer.
the game just feels like its missing content that it shouldve had. the amount of polished art in the game cant compensate for the lack of creativity in weapons, perks, progression, and what a player would want. the cosmetics and voice acting is me just griping, but it feels like a good note to end 2020 on, with the most anticipated game in a long time not living up to the hype. the creativity for this game at some points is spectacular and gripping, but none of its in the main story line. the main story line feels like a chore compared to the beautiful side quests that actually allow me to be the character i want to be. the npcs you meet for these side quests are unforgettable, and definetly setting a new gold standard.

Lackluster? Try double jump and mantis blades. You will be leaping across rooftops and jumping down to ambush enemies like the fucking predator.
@@KotsarisGR bingo!

The reason why I mention skyrim cause as an RPG the AI constantly talking to you from a far and just going about there time and getting into jank situations, where yes Skyrim is dated I really preferred the way CDPR handled it in the witcher 3 and CP since yeah they may be standing around and shit but I'm not going to waste my time watching someone do nothing, I just feel even though they could be better which I wouldn't complain about it's like people were trying to compare to GTA and RDR2 too much which has helped in forming people's misguided expectations, even go back to the witcher and they are pretty much the same

First of al, transsexualism is a slur, the term is transgender.

It's really awesome how you brought up the problems with immersion in Night City, Apparently good graphics = Immersion.
But yea, it's been very clear to me that immersion and bugs are highly subjective terms given how many people flaunt never experiencing a single bug or how enveloping Night City is.
the design of night city itself is immersive the rest is not imo
@Ambrose Delgado because you agree or disagree?
@@sunnycyberbum Out of curiosity, why would you say that the design of Night City is immersive?
@@khankhomrad8855 because the city itself really makes you feel like you are in a cyberpunk city.

Yeah, right! New Vegas is the fucking bomb.

They work short shifts.
NPCs and cars despawn then you turn your back to them and new ones spawn in their place. You can pick what car to steal by doing 360s.
A lot of that has to do with practical limitations. Do you have a 128 gb of ram? No and most people don't either so it spawns and despawn an npc as needed. This is an unreasonable expectation.
@@u13erfitz
First i have 32GB of RAM and NPC will use more CPU and not much RAM.

"I guess that could be a bug" is exactly how I questioned many events in this game. I seriously felt like the game was gaslighting me.
god, that feeling comes up once every hour in the game, right?
that video definitely needs a counter for that phrase xD

This review has aged perfectly into 2024. Almost all of the issues discussed here still exist.
This review was exactly what I felt playing but couldn't put into words
Exactly, there is this guy I forgot his name, but he perfectly put everything what I thought about Super Mario Odyssey into a 2-hour long video. I just had problems with the game, but couldnt really pinpoint them.
CP2077 has much deeper issues/shortocmings than visual/engine bugs. This review says it all.
I wish it was more like:
1 star: Police on foot come to investigate and engage combat
2 stars: Police in vehicles arrive and engage combat. They could also follow you in their vehicles if you try to escape
3 stars: Heavily armed SWAT arrive to engage in combat. Police will also set up roadblocks to prevent you from escaping.
4 stars: All police back off and stop following you and there is a moment of silence before the MAX-TAC comes to take you out.
The AI is way too shallow, I really hope they get an entire rework.
Amazing idea, having the lower level police retreat at 4 stars. Make the MaxTac feel terrifying.

You have cyborg eyes, they could easily right off driving instructions on the road as an advanced future HUD that is basic with all cars and cyber eyes
Agreed. They already do something similar during the racing missions with Claire.
You don't even need to do that! Other games have magical driving instructions in the road with no such justification and nobody cares.
@@PhoenixFire2 True, but it's always better when there's a logical, in-universe explanation for things like that.
@@TheDrewker In fact they should do that with every HUD elements, such a miss opportunity ...like so many things. The crunch/time constrain on the dev team shows itself too often imho. I just hope all those thing can be moded in (the dev team being busy fixing the game). Like the dodge, why isn't it a cyberware stuff (to enable it, to change it etc.). Even the arms cyberwares are kind of half-assed and could be so much better :/
Remember when Sleeping Dogs, a game from 2011, managed to implement this?
Sounds like you had a similar problem with the gameplay that I did, in that Cyberpunk would seemingly work better if it leaned into the Deus Ex style of gameplay as opposed to the Borderlands style of gameplay.
The original Deus Ex
Deus Ex style, also known as an immersive sim
Cyberpunk 2077 should've been like another modern styled Deus ex game...but it sounds like it's a looty shooty borderlands instead?
Looting reminds me of Borderlands so much

There has to be consequences for the video game review industry. It's a broken joke
Don't watch them or dislike their videos when you disagree. Challenge their scores etc
They lost some money during GG, but enough people are willing to give them clicks, so nothing will happen. It doesn't help that some people read them precisely for their political leanings instead of their ability, or lack thereof, at their fucking jobs. This is the problem with everything being political; folks get ever more tribalist, backing any random asshole who agrees with them and ripping anyone they disagree with even when that person is actually competent.
Lol gamergate is a pro Trump sexist attack group of nazis coordinating thier efforts via 4chan and other online nazi strongholds funded by pro American pro nationalist groups in Russia hell bent on destablizing the gaming industry and embolding the misled youth of America to rebel against the status qeoue.
@@BoleDaPole. Please tell me this is satire. Gamer Gate is about forcing developers, publishers, writers, and journalists to separate their political beliefs from the game. Battlefield V is a great example of pushing political agendas in a game and ruining it as a result. There have been other instances in the past such as CD Projekt catching backlash for not having Black people in The Witcher 3, even though it is based in Polish old mythology.
Hell, the Gamespot reviewer of Gta V even knocked points off it for being "sexist" and said it was a game about following a anti feminist agenda. That wasn't true at all. Gamer Gate is about us taking a stand against this kind of bs behavior
@@Deadsea_1993 forget it man dont reason with these type of people. trump and the so called nazis are living rent free in their heads
You got to “find the fun” Perfectly sums up this game. I like that chris
You've hit more nails on the head in 5 mins than most critics are capable off in 10 hours.
One of the few honest takes on this game. I think a lot of people don’t want to admit that it’s bad because they waited so long for it.
That's kinda true the fandom is still coming down from the hype train, give it a month and people will move on then the real critics have time to shine
Just because a review is negative doesn't mean it's any more honest than a positive review. You just like what he's saying because you agree with his opinion.
@@pepsitate8019 and vice versa, funny how this applies more to u guys....some opinions are rationalized bias and some criticism factual observation.

@@tedflips1501 I saw so many reviews before this game dropped that either outright lied or told half-truths about content in this game to make it seem better.
There are more issues I have with the game that I thought were even more damaging that this video didn’t even mention.
I don’t even hate CP, its still an enjoyable game. But I am still disappointed with it.
People are acting like this would be a 10/10 without the bugs when it’s a 7 at best.
From a design standpoint it’s so outdated that even older games have done its ideas better.
I am just genuinely enjoying the game and i didnt even pre order it
I definitely wouldn’t say the game is phenomenal but to say the game is bad is ridiculous.
@@SahiPie Its bad. The truth.

This was downright therapeutic to watch
Just want to say, this is one of the most thoughtful and articulate breakdowns of the situation I’ve ever heard. Very nice job!
But the AI is still awful.
it's sad as witcher 3 set a standered and cybperpunk 2077 is more a first person gta clone then an rpg.
Bruh😂
That's the game in a nutshell right there. It's really well written, as expected from CDPR, but the gameplay, the ai, and the bizarrely limited assets are constantly shooting it in the foot. And the world is huge, but there are massive stretches of absolutely fuck all.
Oh and CDPR still can't design an inventory and upgrade system that isn't utterly, eyepoppingly incomprehensible.
@@timk6181 they should make a movie not a game

End of the day corporate companies and people that support them creates the damage, the industry is slowly burning and you have bravely spoke out and not many will be able to pick that up sadly. Standing up for our consumer rights is important at this point of time.
*customer
I agree with you, but end users aren't consumers. Consumers destroy what they consume (cows and chickens eating grain) whereas customers don't (I can buy a table and not consume it).
If there's second hand market, then the item is most likely not a consumable. This is a matter of semantics and it is incredibly important to remember, because corporate interests are trying their hardest to ingrain in end users' minds that we consume, and hence can't sell our games, or even actually own them in their ideal world.
Very punk.
Ironically, a message which was supposed to be core to the cyberpunk genre and setting. Silver lining, at least we get this amusing life-imitates-art commentary.
kinda ironic isnt it
