The Beatles - Something /// BASS LINE [Play Along Tabs]

This time I play over a backing track without bass.
Bass line is the Abbey Road album version, played with pick and (sorry) roundwound strings.
And of course with my Hofner Ignition instead of a Rickenbacker (I don't have it)

I play rhythm/lead guitar; piano & drums. But the reason why I decided to primarily be a bassist is because of McCartney. In Macca's hands, the bass is as integral part of the song. No long, winding & acrobatic bass solos; just give the right amount of bass line that the song needs. The groove, the feel, the melody is McCartney.

99% of the bass players would have played the tonal on each chords, plain and dull ( like on the Lennon's album after the Beatles broke up). This is a marvelous example of how a complex and creative bassline elevates an already brillant song and put it on unexpected heights. Same thing on Here comes the sun, the Harrison/McCartney duo could produces absolute gems when Lennon wasn't around.

The sound of the Hofner 500/1 bass is quite a palate to listen to with this song, McCartney knew how to interpret Something in a perfect way

One question, what strap are you using, because I'm planning to get an Ignition hofner model as well

If you get an Ignition the strap is included but it’s very long, I needed to make new holes to shorten. For my other basses I use big straps and all with straplock
