When my wife and I got married in 1971 I went to the band leader and asked him if he could play Love by John Lennon as our first song. He said he didn’t know that so I said just play something by The Beatles. So he played “Something” by The Beatles. And that became our song!❤️

When you look at George Harrison from his earliest days, through his years with the Beatles, you see his transformation and his maturation. His soul's journey seems to be on display. A wonderful man.
We can see the transformation and maturation of the Beatles and the 1960s as a whole, not just George. He failed to criticize unfairly that he had "no room" while just at the end of the Beatles he took off as a composer (and even his November 1970 triple album includes 4 or 5 tracks on each side and a long and uninteresting jam on the last side). The others always made him stand out when he came up with the right songs and he owes a lot to the Beatles. George was rather stingy and self-effacing, unlike his wonderful companions. But I really like your songs.
@@GuitarSkash At first they drew heavily from everly brothers and things like that yeah but by 1965 you couldn't say that, by then they grew into a thing completely of their own

@@callum6888 I agree. The bass really brings it together. I can see why George would be concerned though. But massive credit to George for writing it. It was a huge win for all Beatles members. Probably their best song.
no matter how many times i listen to some beatles songs, they still make me cry. it feels so unreal that these four men all met in their lifetime and left such an impact in just around 7-8 years.
Not to take away from your joke, but George wanted to call it Something in the Way She Moves, but James Taylor (who they signed to the Apple label) already had that song title.
Gotta agree with Frank S. It's the most beautiful love song ever written. I'll never forget the night I sang this to my wife on karaoke night at the bar. Got a big round of applause. I thought they were just glad I was done. Then I looked at my pretty Karen. She had the biggest smile on her face & she was crying. God I miss her. When I come to be with you someday, I'm gonna sing it to you again. R I P Karen. I love you & always will.
the way how all 4 beatles look totally different and unrecognizable in this video at the end of the band’s career compared to how they looked when they recorded “love me do” just a few years earlier is crazy!
The chord progression in the middle part is so amazing. It comes out nowhere and lifts the song straight into heaven. Thank you, George. This song is eternal.
To everyone who wants to sing along Something in the way she moves Attracts me like no other lover Something in the way she woos me I don't want to leave her now You know I believe and how Somewhere in her smile she knows That I don't need no other lover Something in her style that shows me I don't want to leave her now You know I believe and how You're asking me will my love grow I don't know, I don't know Stick around and it may show I don't know, I don't know Something in the way she knows All I have to do is think of her Something in the things she shows me I don't want to leave her now You know I believe and how You know I believe and how
I have been listening to this song for more than 50 years and I still like it like it did back then, I feel like it is more modern than the most current songs.
The key change at 1:10 is the essence of what makes the Beatles so timeless. It's hard to write one good melody, let alone 3, let alone 3 that actually work together. Pop music puts hooks in their songs, the Beatles put songs in their hooks. It's just banger after banger.
I miss John and George. When we were young, we never thought about the day that they might die. I think that's true for most young people at any time. It's been 40 years since John's sudden death.
EVERY YEAR when I wake on December 8 that is my first thought. How painful it is each and every year. I remember that day and I do t even remember my brothers bdays ! I know the months but not the day.
I believe they said it was improvised during the recording bcs George Martin said they should only have the orchestra in that part. George rightly thought otherwise.
Lyrics: | "Something" - The Beatles. | Something in the way she moves Attracts me like no other lover Something in the way she woos me I don't want to leave her now You know I believe and how Somewhere in her smile, she knows That I don't need no other lover Something in her style that shows me I don't want to leave her now You know I believe and how You're asking me will my love grow I don't know, I don't know You stick around now it may show I don't know, I don't know Something in the way she knows And all I have to do is think of her Something in the things she shows me I don't want to leave her now You know I believe and how. END.
If you focus on the last part of the song - where their last faces are shown; it resembles how they appreciated/recognized George in the band (at that time). Metaphorically, looking to right is their way of recognizing George's brilliance specially on writing Something. - John: looked but with a mocking/sarcastic smirk - Paul: didn't even bothered looking - Ringo: the only one who looked serious and looked at George - George: didn't care how the others reacted.
[LYRICS] Something in the way she moves Attracts me like no other lover Something in the way she woos me I don't want to leave her now You know I believe and how Somewhere in her smile she knows That I don't need no other lover Something in her style that shows me I don't want to leave her now You know I believe and how You're asking me, "Will my love grow?" Yes he didn't know as he cheated on her, the one he wrote this for. Then Eric Clapton talked her into being with him with the help of that cheating to get her. He wrote Layla and Wonderful tonight for her. Then he cheated on her which is being a backstabber and is worse to do that since he got her for that very reason and hurt her harder. Well he got the lady pregnant in that affair and then the baby died. He then wrote Tears in Heaven that baby. We got great songs because of all of that sin but it's time to STOP cheating and hurting people. 😌🙏
This song and watching John and George .... looking so lovingly and deeply into the women they love, knowing they are both gone, just breaks my heart. You can really see the love in their eyes and faces.
What I loved about George apart from his contribution to The Beatles & his solo work was his honest humility & that he didn't profess to being perfect & spent his time on earth trying to be a better human being & to me this is why George Harrison is loved & respected so much, as we all know we're not perfect but to at least try to better human being is what I took from my Mum & George Harrison & they'll always be in my thoughts... That unmistakable sound that separated George from the rest of the Beatles. Did we understand or could we grasp the significance that this song would have in the coming years. George created his own path outside the sphere of being a Beatle.
Who do you think was the creator or the catalyst of the type of songs that the Beatles wrote together and what I mean specifically is how they would jump from one certain type of a beat from one beat to another week to another week like totally different songs like they did it over and over and over again and I thought I always thought that when they split that really was McCartney who carried it who was the originator because of the types of songs that they did on you know with Paul McCartney in the wings with band in the band on the run and and not so much silly Love songs but anyway I'm just wondering what you think I never even considered it was George Harrison I always thought he was the most spiritual one always knew he was the most spiritual one of the group but they never even occurred to me that it could have been him it really is not really but he does have an amazing amazing amazing body of work
@@sandyowens4068 If you look at the songs that they covered early on. I think they got some inspiration from those connections. Certainly sound wise the "Fifth Beatle" Sir George Martin was an inspiration and a guiding hand. Especially in the arranging of the music over the first couple of years. Yes George was "Spiritual" in the sense he included a lot of the Manta aspects but somehow missed the boat on how well it changed his life. He was still cheating on his wives. I think John was Spiritual to a certain extinct there was some mysticism working in John's life." Mind Games" "Imagine" "Dream No. 9". Paul's Name for his 70's band was Wings. The imagery came to him as he was praying before the Birth of Stella. There were some complications during here birth and Linda and Stella almost died.
@@vickivonck5836 I never said that was a negative. Obviously the remaining band members and family members part of Beatles Inc or whatever the entity is called now have made some handsome royalty checks along the way. But once the four dissolved their joint creative dealings they each forged their own unique paths.
@@nboccanfuso This song is as old as the moon landing. And people are still listening to it. That's very good. It only happens with 4-10 songs a year IF it was a good year. The Beatles released this and Come Together THE SAME YEAR. That's two songs, in just one year, by just one band. Now, THAT''s insanely good.
@@LordSesshaku Here Comes The Sun is also one of the timeless Beatles songs, wich was also released in the same year. That's 3 songs in one year. Yellow Submarine was also released in 1969. That's 4 songs that are still being played today
3 singer songwriters in one band, and all are off the charts! And George is possibly my favourite! Unbelievable!! Also his guitar is a universe all on its own!!
Well he did technically write a lot of songs during the later years, John and Paul just didn't think they were worth putting on albums. I mean George's solo album, 'All Things Must Pass', most of those were songs he had written for the Beatles but had been turned down.
George was just as talented as paul and John don't you ever doubt it! He just did not get the oppertunity to make as many songs with the Beatles...But when given the chance, WOW! wHAT classics
I don't doubt it at all. That's what I was saying, he had 100% success with his writing, even though he didn't write as many. Although I may be wrong in the last part as BronyDan suggests.
He took longer to mature as a songwriter and they were slow to realize that he had. This was the song that opened Paul's eyes in that regard. The only thing bigger than the Beatles in the 60s was John Lennon's ego.
George was not only a talented lead guitarist but indeed an accomplished songwriter, composer & singer too. Truly talented but underated Beatle. Greetings from Malaysia.
Dingle Barry uh no. George struggled to get published all along. He got one song per album. After the band split, he had such a backlog of unpublished songs, his solo efforts yielded a double album and many huge hits including Weeps and What is Life. Most Beatle fans recognize that he was underrated until he went solo and collaborated with Wilburys.
Dingle Barry Paul actively kept George's work off of projects. Harrison wrote songs intended for Sgt. Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour (both projects that were driven by McCartney) that ended up being rejected and later released on Yellow Submarine. McCartney was an absolute monster towards Harrison and, to an extent, Ringo. (Not to mention the ever more strained relationship between Lennon and McCartney...) My personal theory is that McCartney was threatened by Harrison's increasingly brilliant song-writing.
謝阿哲 Definitely Something for me too. Here comes the sun is a close second though. And I like the demo version and the Love version of WMGGW more than the white album version.
the original bassline is more complex than the one we are hearing now. no you haven’t misread, this is a simplified version. after paul came up with the original bassline, george got pissed off and told paul to make it simpler and paul did it. yet this is the one of the most melodic and powerful basslines of all time
When you look at the Travelling Wilburys and all the amazing musicians in that band, it's amazing to know that George stands out so strongly and was STILL only considered the third best Beatle by most.
I used to just assume they were all Lennon/McCartney songs. I soon realized George wrote my favorite Beatles songs, something, here comes the sun , tax man and while my guitar gently weeps.

But I really like your songs.
it's crazy that he would've been around 25/26 when he wrote this song such talent

The key change at 1:10 is the essence of what makes the Beatles so timeless. It's hard to write one good melody, let alone 3, let alone 3 that actually work together. Pop music puts hooks in their songs, the Beatles put songs in their hooks. It's just banger after banger.

If you focus on the last part of the song - where their last faces are shown; it resembles how they appreciated/recognized George in the band (at that time). Metaphorically, looking to right is their way of recognizing George's brilliance specially on writing Something.
- John: looked but with a mocking/sarcastic smirk
- Paul: didn't even bothered looking
- Ringo: the only one who looked serious and looked at George
- George: didn't care how the others reacted.

Yes he didn't know as he cheated on her, the one he wrote this for. 😌🙏

Four… Ringo was as well even though he didn’t write or sing much
George didn't write songs as often, but when he did, boy, masterpiece!
He wrote 28 songs solo out of the total 236 Beatles original compositions.
I wonder if John or Paul listened to All Things Must Pass when it came out and kicked themselves?
A masterpiece where you can feel George Harrison’s charisma. The Beatles’ eternal monumental work. Music that gets better the more you listen to it.
