Here are more details on how to wire the reverse lights to use the cargo lamp switch. According to my wiring diagrams, this should work on 1999-2006 GMT800 trucks. Relay pin 30 - +12V (I used the 20A AUX fuse) Relay pin 85 - tap into the dark blue/white wire going into the cargo lamp switch Relay pin 86 - +12V (same as pin 30) Relay pin 87 - white wires to reverse lights Relay pin 87a - not connected (insulate loose end to prevent short circuit)
You can level the mirrors out with a couple washer In each upper bolt in the mirror arm bracket. There’s a few TH-cam videos out there about it. Really helps the looks on a GMT800
I did that on my 2001 GMC Sierra 2500HD. I also added a bit of rolled up inner tube to keep them tight in the clamp after I added the washers, because they felt a little loose.
@@nickb.237 Agreed, i liked the trailer and other flat bed build he should do something most people arnt doing something interesting and still useful to him
As a mechanic that has to deal with the electrical side of vehicles makes me feel good to see you soldering them connections and applying heat shrink keep up the good work can't wait to see what's next on your channel
I would go with an aftermarket version of the factory issue roof marker lights. I believe "Recon" makes a variety of options. Also, another modification that is highly recommended for the LLY duramax like yours is to replace the restrictive turbo inlet mouthpiece. I went with the bigger, more efficient one from "S&B" and it made a big improvement. I had a 2005 LLY that I did a lot of upgrades to but it was stolen a few years ago so watching you restore Brandon takes me back. Looking forward to more videos on this build.
Dang it, every time I watch this channel I find something else a gotta spend money on. Now I need a set of these mirrors for my truck. Congratulations on the subscriber count, I knew early on this channel was going to takeoff. Good on ya!
I agree Waldo those marker lights are going to really dress up the exterior of the cab. Use the old style not the new ones , they look sort of weird and flat. (at least 5 to7 of them). Mirrors look awesome , great choice! Wishing you 100K ASAP!!!! I've been with you since day one!
Best quality automotive videos on TH-cam in my opinion. I would look into leveling out the new mirrors unless you prefer them tilted. Great work! Hope to see the projects on the road!
Awesome truck, sweet video. Controversial topic warning!!! According to my research crimping is a completely acceptable way to connect wires and is actually preferred for reliability (by race car builders for example). Soldered connections often break where the solder ends and the flexible wire begins. There are many crimped connections on a factory vehicle, not many soldered. Heat shrink is still a must! Look into it you might be surprised!
My favorite crimp connectors are the Phillips-crimp, solder, seal connectors. They are waterproof and have low temp solder in them as well as crimping so they're super secure and offer a great connection. Butt connectors are good because they offer strain relief to your connection as well.
I have never had a soldiered connection fail, but I have had crimped connections fail. Soldered joints also have less resistance. Almost like it was a solid unbroken wire.
If I use a crimp connection I strip enough wire to fold the wire over in half and stick it in the crimp. Guarantee it won’t pull out if you crimp it good. I also squeeze some connector grease in before installing the wire. Never had one fail yet
This is my favorite model year GMC Sierra. Love watching your videos fixing this old girl up. I have the Boost Tow Mirrors on my 2019 GMC Canyon. They are great mirrors for sure.
Waldo, I really enjoy your project and you are very good with you content. I have a suggestion for you, use anti siege dope on ALL nuts and bolts, basically everything that has threads. This will make removal easy in the future when you have to take apart stuff
Waldo, I truly enjoy your videos. I wait for each one to come out. I enjoy the material, how you plan them, what you choose to work on, your editing etc... I enjoy most everything about them. You have even inspired me to purchase my own welder. You are my favorite youtuber to watch. Even though you might not like Detroit, people here like you so please don't slam our big city. Your Cummins swap was awesome. Your Detroit Diesel video was awesome. Your trailer video awesome. I don't know how you can afford so much of what you do but I am glad you do.
When I did cab lights on my 2006 I ordered the factory gm amber lights (new) and ordered a used harness off ebay. Notching the small squares (mounting holes) was a pain, but I wanted factory. I also added a slight amount of silicone for added protection.
Big fan of your channel. I know you mentioned knocking down that building that you installed your lift in. Maybe in the meantime while you save for your "ideal" building, you could slightly modify and improve the one you actually have. It's definitely more relatable, as most of us do not have large work shops. Simple electrical, insulation, heat, flooring, and light upgrades are extremely helpful. Maybe some wood heat...because...it's cold outside. Plus, once you improve that building, you will have a smaller workshop to build/park things.

I agree I solder everything. The only crimps that are decent are the 3M and 3M copies with the glue and stink wrap on them, but they’re to expensive. Soldering is basically free! I have the boost mirrors on my LLY as well. I really like them. I added a couple washers inside to level them out. There’s a bunch of videos on it. As for roof clearance lights you can’t go wrong with a set of 06 and up lights. I have a used set of smoked LED lights I can send you. I snagged them from a junkyard thinking they would fit mine but they’re different than the stock ones on my truck. They have the pigtail connectors with them but you’ll have to make the rest of the harness. They’re yours if you want them.
For a quick bumper cover for those rust holes on Brandon, go to the hardware store , get yourself a roll of metal tape. Or as my buddy says chrome on a roll. Take a strip of that tape & cover over those rust spots on the bumper. A quick fix until you can get a replacement bumper cover. Have a great day!

Brandon the truck is coming along nicely. That was a decent score at $3500. You can sell it for $55k when it’s all done 😀. Looking forward to the next video Waldo.
For another really clean way to hook up the spot lights on the mirrors is to hook them up to the inside door light so it will come on when the doors open and turn off with the dome light and if you wanted them turned on you can hit your dimmer switch all the way up turning on your dome light and the mirror lights. That's what I did with my 04 cateye and I love how it came out I also got a white led bulb kit for the interior lights as well and it looks very clean.
I believe the previous owner of my truck must have done the same setup, I’m honestly not a fan of it because when I need more light for backing up a trailer I end up not being able to see out because of the glare from the interior lights. Prob more so cus of my dirty half fogged horribly scratched windows than the light now that I think of it
@@RiverValleyLandscaping haha true but fyi if you hit the buttons for the dome light white you have them all on it will dim them about halfway although it doesn't help that much I also replaced my reverse lights with led bulbs and there sooo much brighter and helped a ton I did a full led bulb conversion on my truck the end gole being to make it like gm would make it today and I'm doing that by covering to leds and eventually building the engine a little to get it to at least 400 hp up there with most new V8 trucks these days and some overall restoration

my dads 05 f250 lariat is a welding truck with a welding skid. we did a roof rack that goes to where the roof meets the windshield and in the aluminum square we ran wires for some 3/4" marker lights. 5 on the front and 2 red on the rear. might do 3 more in the rear though. we made it 4 1/4 wide so we can fit full 4x8 plywood or aluminum/steel sheet. but we made it bolt to the cabinets instead of the actual truck so we can pull the rack and skid with the crain or forklifts and then its a stock truck again. super nice and we have it down to 10 minutes.
For the roof makers I'd say go for some chrome teardrop ones in a 1-3-1 style. I only say that since you have a decent amount of chrome on the truck but I'd say go for something different if you're planning on getting rid of the chrome
