The broken hammer 'misses' if you kill the enemy with the first attack OR they move somehow from directly in front of you. Its why you kept getting frail at the end of rounds because you would kill the enemy, the hammer would swing at no one and 'miss'. And as for the gambler you upgraded him THEN looked at the upgraded side hence the confusion with the damg numbers. The upgrade was actually 0-15 damg to 0-20 damg

i like its basically become second nature to know when a series is a series
The portals will cycle until you have gone through all of them, so you can effectively "farm" them until there are no more options. Think of it as all of the portals you can go through have been decided at the start, and it can get through all of them or go to the boss as soon as it appears.
The party members also have 3 abilities plus slap, at the start of every run you can choose one member and 2 of their abilities, and you'll get one other random member. If you have active bias on it will get a member that compliments the squad, as in: if you choose a damage dealer as your sure companion it will try to choose a healer, or vice versa. Party members acquired through the run will have 2 random abilities from their 3.

I always suggest going straight for any gold/blue portals. Especially in the second area since almost every npc in the second area can be unlocked as a playable character.

some small advice: you shouldnt ALWAYS take all of your party members, while yes, more party members = more damage, it ALSO means you have less room to doge, a party of 5 cant get out of harms way, same goes with pigment, sometimes a battle simpaly has no red enemys, in that case someone like boyle would be useless, try to think about it like this "is this party member good for this battle, or sould i keep him for a diffrent battle?"
Good job! You got the Stolen Gold which is an amazing item! Here are some tips:
1. If you go into "Party" menu you can change the party starting positions, so you can put them in better spots at the start of the fight. Or you can put them out of the current party in the "storage" to have a smaller party. Which deals less dmg but its easier to dodge. For example you can remove the party members that use red if you see enemies won't give you any red.
2. If you need some blue pigment for healing you can attack empty spaces (with Slaps or other attacks).
3. If you feel the game is taking too long you can turn off the attack animations in the menu. This will make it quicker but I'd recommend you to leave them for now, bc they look really cool.
4. As Bosch have said, not everyone one is a recruitable party member. Some are just NPCs you can talk too. Party members are usually more "distinct".
if a blue encounter is a waste of time, it's usually easy to tell if the character you're trying to talk to is not a time waster since (some encounters occasionally have multiple) it is usually implied they can be recruited in some way also
most time wasters are in zone 1 anyway

11:35 I realize you misread the gambler's hand.
You don't have a chance to hit for double damage; you have a chance to GET hit for double damage.
You also have a chance to get hit for regular damage, or no damage.
Oh well, I'm sure you'll find out soon enough. Edit: 23 minutes in, you found out... and it worked okay.
Pro tip: always go for the yellow/golden portals, specially if they contain gray chests. The faster you can upgrade your boyos, the easier it becomes to defeat enemies...
Oh and if you find a dude sitting next to a bonfire, try to interact with the environment.
Advice: hovering over the enemy icon in the timeline will show you which positions its going to attack/affect alongside a description of the move they'll use.

About the pathing in areas: I usually full clear and I go like this.
I proritize money chests, NPCs and easy fights until I save 20 coins. Then I check the item shop, then I save 14 coins and then check the character shop. This way you afford the things you can buy. And then I upgrade my characters.
Love this game, I’m on and off for most series but I’ll be here for this whole series. Also, I love how this game makes complicated gimmicks for fights, but ties it to a conceptual model so it’s intuitive, like roid’s exhaustion mechanic.

I would recommend trying to read the passives a bit more, also maybe don't bring stolen gold into a boss fight.
One last thing, having more party members isn't always a good thing

i love that you started a new series, but id love to have numbers on your vids. that way people can easily click the next vid without having to check the video history on the channel tab. just a lil quality of life thing, whether directly, in context of the title or just the thumbnail
Unfortunately, numbering videos results in views absolutely tanking on them. It’s something I used to do diligently and the reality is it hurts more than it helps

My understanding was this game was supposedly completely choreographed. So presumably thier is some way to tell which way Roid will move.

I like your content man, but after watching a few of your videos, I have determined that you are high as balls when you make these videos. It may help the content with an aloof personality, but it's also very frustrating when you go off on a tangent that you are completely wrong about. I attacked an enemy 6 times in a row and didn't hit anything. Has to be one of the dumbest combat systems I've seen in any game.
This seems like a you problem. I’m pretty sure there’s only one character with a % chance based attack and you unlock them way later in the game so you wouldn’t have them this early.
@@OlexaYT I mean it was on the very first fight? I've played lots of games like this (I can beat Battle Brothers legit on the second from hardest setting) so it just seems like a stupid mechanic.
