  • Hi there, I'm Eileen. While my favourite designer bag is my Hermes Birkin 25, I definitely do not wear Hermes or Louis Vuitton from head to toe. Defining my own saves and splurges, has allowed me to enjoy nice things responsibly and sustainably. I'm someone who enjoys fine jewelry, but I also wear my Vans with pride for walks. I don't buy luxury body care but I'm happy to pay for effective skin care. I don't buy designer T shirts, but I'm ready to splurge on solid outerwear. Luxury for me doesn't mean buying the most expensive of everything, it means buying what works for me. This video is my version of a luxury minimalist's saves and splurges, I hope it gives you some ideas on how to spend on designer items wisely xx

Love it! I found some moth holes in my Valentino sweater! Sometimes buying the newest next thing is not satisfying or long lasting. Reminds me of the scripture: Matt 16:19"-Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in or steal." Blessings to you - and us all in the new year!

Your points in this video deserve a big thumb!
I definitely agree that we can splurge on some areas but need to save on some others. Life is a matter of priorities and choices. After all, we have bills to pay and kids to raise.
I splurge on quality skincare (not for the brand name) and fine jewellery. I do not like costume jewelry, either. They depreciate and age so soon because of the cheap materials.
I love handbags, but the obsession subsided when I grow up and in my mid thirties now. I do not splurge on handbags now. Although I do find an expensive handbag can make one look more expensive and rich, I do not see the value of doing so nowadays.
On this point, I want to share how I and one of my friends choose to splurge and save in a contrasting way.
My friend owns a lot of luxury handbags and costume jewellery but her clothes cost under £20 pounds each. Although she gets the expensive look from afar, you can tell the clothes are in poor quality which I personally do not like (and we all know fast fashion is an environmental issue). And she owns thousands of these cheap clothes. When my boy spilled soap water on her faux leather boots, she felt nothing because it only costs £20 and she will throw it away.
On the other hand, as I aspire to be an elegant lady, I know I do not need to look expensive to be elegant. I think glowing skin, silky hair, and healthy body shape are signs of elegance. I buy nicely designed clothes at mid-priced (£50-£100 for tops and bottoms, and £200 to £400 for coat, sweaters or shoes items). No Brand name. Just nice designs. I take good care of them. If my son spills anything on my genuine leather boots, I would feel upset.
Also, as an environmentally concerned person, it hurts me to throw away something so soon, cheap or expensive. I would rather spend time re-home them by selling or giving away. As it takes me many efforts to scrape something, I am even more careful when buying something new.
From the Mainland China TV drama, 三十而已(In putonghua pinyin, San1 shi2 er2 yi3, I guess you understand Chinese as you mentioned you watched this drama), women go after quantities in their 20s but should opt for quality since 30s. I can’t agree more with this.
When someone sees me from afar, no one would find me look expensive because I display no luxury logos. I enjoy the low-key quality and elegant look.
I do not deny that, when I first met my aforementioned friend and saw her owning so many luxury handbags, I exclaimed how rich she is. That was on the assumption that she took good care of herself and her financial status before owning so many luxury goods.
There is no right and wrong. It’s just a personal preference, which is what you wanna bring out in this video.

Hi Eileen, ♥️Recently I came across your videos. I love your format and overall "life ethic" in terms of how you discern what is reasonable regarding finances, designer items and how it goes in with your life in the day to day. I am in my mid twenties and was looking for a channel like yours for the longest time and came across this gold mine of a channel.
Being in my twenties, now earning my own income- sometimes I find it difficult to reason with myself regarding whether or not to buy an item because I like it, and whether I need to live up to an image ( expensive car upgrade ) to be able to enjoy my designer peices I have.
But after watching your channel I have many of my questions answered.
I am joyed that there are others out there who also agree that you can have classic timeless staple items that match your everyday life, serve my needs and not worry about what is trendy- because individually your are happy with what you have.
Love from Australia, happy new year 🎆❤️☺️
Please don't stop making content ☺️❤️

Also, not that you have to take my advice, but better to store your Rolex on one of those Cartier travel cushions so that the back of the watch face is not touching the strap 😊or maybe on its side (left side, with nothing touching) ❤

I totally get why you prefer fine jewelry over costume jewelry. Years ago I was there and I found I was leaning toward white gold or silver and I gave all of my yellow gold jewelry away to friends. I’m on a slow crawl in adding new costume jewelry to my collection mostly because I don’t really need a huge variety for my lifestyle. I recently did a closet clean out and donated some items I never wear. I tend to wear bracelets & earrings the most. I like Brighton, Lagos & Alexis Bittar for my jewelry.

Thank you for the video! I never thought to look outside of my wardrobe to minimize. I have been using Chanel and Dior skin care products because they must be "the best", right? Well, I went on holiday and had to toss out some products at the airport because I forgot to de-pot so they were to big. I purchased The Ordinary to get me by. My skin was just fine. I think I convinced myself that I needed my high end products again the moment I got home because frankly, I am addicted to the scent and routine. After these jars I will cut back for sure. I also received some Aveda and Body Shop items for Christmas, I'll see how those work. This video is so eye opening! Thanks!

Oh my gosh, we think so much alike. Especially on the costume jewelry vs precious metals/gems. The one advantage to buying precious metals is they generally retain their value, regardless of condition! You lose a stone out of a Chanel or other piece and it's instantly devalued. I am curious, the cashmere loungewear, do you wash it at home or take it to a dry cleaner? I've recently purchased a cashmere shawl that I just love for wrapping up in around the house when it's chilly. After watching your video, I'm thinking maybe investing in 1 or 2 good quality cashmere items might be the way for me to go. I'm tired of buying sweaters that after wearing a few times, they look like scrub rags! (I''m sure you know what I mean.)

Dear Eileen, speaking about the so imortant dentist‘s handcare: I found something that moistures like a dream, has no damaging chemicals , no endocrine disruptors and is very affordable: lanolin ❤️ ! I use it in the dental office before and after work ( because it is greasy it takes a bit to absorb into the skin, but it does it more efficiently as any other cream) and on the lips of the pacients. Lots if them asked me what the new super lipcare is 😁 , and they bought it for themselves .. it is great for footcare too ..

Hey Carolyn, apologies! I filmed and scheduled this video a while ago (before the controversy). I was quite unwell in the last 2 weeks so I totally overlooked it, I’ll see if I can edit it out xx

I saw on IG that you have been sick, I hope you are feeling better.
I believe you are a very thoughtful person and assumed you just overlooked the bag due to your recent illness. Be well, My friend.

Goodness those holes look more like an insect infestation. Be careful with moths! Those darn things are such a nuisance and a pain to get rid of but it can be done.

Definitely not moth related, this is the only piece in my wardrobe that has holes xx

@@ColourfulNoir You’re quite right, moths only eat wool, though sometimes other insects can create damage. Sounds like from the other comments it’s a common issue! I don’t own any Balmain and I guess that’s a good thing 🥹
