I've used a Proxxon hot wire cutter for a few years now for scale modeling and dioramas and nothing beats it. Get a foot switch so you can control the off/on with your foot and it's amazing.
Hot wire cutter tip: when slicing multiple layers under a template, keep it all together with 3M clear packing tape. The wire goes through it like a knife through yogurt.
Thanks for the full dress up. I was prepared to see the video end without it, but I have to admit that I wanted to see the full effect. It was a lot of work, and I think it's good that you showed the process so we can appreciate the extra effort you put in for that final payoff.
Ive been unable to buy more than one costume for halloween, so ive been making and remaking the same costume for the past 5 years, this is a channel that I deeply identify with just because of episodes like this.
What I love about watching Adam is the little tricks that I never think of that are just an unconscious movement for him. Tells you just how well tuned he is to his setup and the decades of experience
This is how I’ve been making my Wookiee feet for the past 10 years. I met Adam once at Celebration in Chewie, I had no idea it was him till later when a couple of Legion friends pointed him out to me. The Wookiee aka Adam was being rushed off and I was being a costume nerd trying to compliment and ask build questions. Missed opportunity to talk shop. Though whenever I am Chewie at Dragon Con or Celebration, I get asked if I’m Adam. You should know over time the foam will compact so you have to replace it. Thanks for making this, it’s very helpful for future Wookiee builders and cosplayers.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this video at 2am but the best part was at the end. I cried when you explained the demerit badges. It's been a particularly hard season of life. It means a lot that someone as successful as yourself views screw ups as valuable. Thank you.

Since those latex toes are were still in good shape you should have taken a mold of it while you had them off that way you can make new ones when these eventually fail.

Your comment on the mask being if its not comfortable you won't wear it is so true. I ordered 3 czech m10 gas masks to keep in our shared shop. Extremely comfortable and really easy to take on and off. And the price is good too,I think they where like 28 bucks each shipped.
I see that too. I've been thinking that a hand-shaped one would be useful since every tool in the shop is a handheld one so a hand shape is the right form factor for it. The only issue is how to build it (maybe with wood and armature wire?)

When I saw the pink foam came out I knew what the new tool was. Nothing cooler than the hot wire. It's like a table saw combined with a bandsaw in all the best ways. Combined with a slingshot wand, you can do pretty much anything with foam.

Seeing the bandaid - I didn't notice it till about 45 minutes in, but it makes me wonder if that was why the Xacto warning happened, because there were moments when you were removing the toes where I was thinking, "Adam, be careful there!" The lack of fancy dust collection systems is refreshingly down to earth - you clean when you clean, all is good. I must be watching too many woodworkers with fancy shop gear. The cave is way better. I'd be afraid of the hip wrenching total fail at that height, every time you hopped I cringed, that's what happens after 50 I swear! Demerit badges...We use "Safety Last!" around here a lot because we have evrything we need to be safer, but too often remember it after the fact.

I have been using the finger template thing ALL the time now with some of the prop/foam stuff I have been working on, so easy! dont know why I didnt think of it till I saw Adam doing it. Like he said, its GREAT for doing curved rather than trying to measure out and fake it freehand.
I'll be honest. Those are some fantastic wookie feet. You got the Mayhew standard stomping around right there. Full-on legit wookie happening. And walkable like a wookie. Ready for the film poses.
As a snowboarder I am surprised to see that you were comfortable with the angle of the boots, after a whole 12 seconds testing them out loose on your feet. Snowboard boots have "forward lean" built in to keep the rider's knees bend as they shred down the mountain. Please let me know how your legs feel after prolonged use and the boots properly tightened, with that increase of heel lift. Love your videos, even tho I do have a dream job myself sometimes I wonder if I should just start a prop maker career. Cheers.
That maker progression is completely understandable. When I first learned about pop rivets, then about tapped & die holes, and finally welding each progression came with seeing repairs and builds completely biased to their use!
I'm a mechanical engineering major, and I relate so hard to when Adam is talking about integrating a new technology. I just learned how to use a CNC mill and now everything I do needs to be CNC milled

I have been using the finger template thing ALL the time now with some of the prop/foam stuff I have been working on, so easy! dont know why I didnt think of it till I saw Adam doing it. Like he said, its GREAT for doing curved rather than trying to measure out and fake it freehand.

As a snowboarder I am surprised to see that you were comfortable with the angle of the boots, after a whole 12 seconds testing them out loose on your feet. Snowboard boots have "forward lean" built in to keep the rider's knees bend as they shred down the mountain. Please let me know how your legs feel after prolonged use and the boots properly tightened, with that increase of heel lift. Love your videos, even tho I do have a dream job myself sometimes I wonder if I should just start a prop maker career. Cheers.

That maker progression is completely understandable. When I first learned about pop rivets, then about tapped & die holes, and finally welding each progression came with seeing repairs and builds completely biased to their use!
