I can’t wait to see all the goodies you got! I have the original version of Someone to Watch Over Me. I thought it was fine the way it is. Lisa Kleypas was the reason I really got into Historical Romance. I wish she would write new books instead of revising old books, IMHO, that don’t need to be fixed 🤷🏻♀️ And if you really need to revise it, at least change the title. She did it before with Only in Your Arms. The revised book is called When Strangers Marry. That’s the version I have.
I agree with you 100%. I'm so curious to see the differences in those two versions! In fact, the other two books in the series have supposedly been edited too, so I'm curious to read the originals and the edited ones. (Books 2 and 3 have only mild editing in comparison to book 1, I've heard.) And yes, I have Only in Your Arms and When Strangers Marry! I need to read those as well. Soooo much to read. 🤣🥳
@@mamaneedstoreadromanceThrough my research on re-edited Kleypas books, I discovered all but the last book in the Hathaways was re-edited; Hello Stranger; Wallflowers 1,2, & 5; Lady Sophia's Lover; and of course Only In Your Arms/When Strangers Marry. I agree they should have just been left alone, and perhaps a content warning added so readers were aware of the problematic text. When authors re-edit stories they don't always do an extensive continuity check...case in point: the new versions of Secrets of a Summer Night and It Happened One Autumn from the Wallflowers. It's disappointing to me that authors bow to current public opinions when reissuing old works...just add a cw and be done with it! ...ok, rant over 🤪😊
@@alisonm4830 Exactly! You said what I was thinking. I think it was changed due to public pressure. People get offended so easily now adays. They are Historical books. Things happened back then that wouldn’t necessarily happen in today’s world. Certain words were used back then to describe people that we wouldn’t use today. But that’s what they were called. If this current generation of readers can’t handle reading about that, then I don’t think they should be reading Historicals, especially older ones. They should just stick to authors who are writing Contemporary disguised as Historicals. Because if they think Lisa‘s books are offensive, then I wonder what these people would think of Rosemary Rogers, Kathleen E Woodiwiss, Bertrice Small and others authors of the true Bodice Ripper era. They would be livid. Even I can’t reread some of their books. But I’m not going to demand they be adjusted to suit my sensibilities. I just won’t read them. 🤷🏻♀️ If any book of LK needs to be edited it would be her Contemporary book Blue-Eyed Devil. What happened to that heroine is horrible. I don’t see any content warning on that. I’ll get off my soap box now 😁
@@sicilianbeauty13 YES! I 100% agree with everything you said as well. It's nice to know that we're not alone in our thoughts and opinions. I just wish that publishers would take that into account when dealing with their old catalog.
Oh we are absolutely doing that buddy read! I'm so glad I was able to send something to help with this summer, this new series is so good too! Might take a while to get through all of those stacks 😂
Woohoo! Can't wait, Debra! I have a strong feeling it will take a while to get through the stacks. My local library is having a sale this weekend, and I'm like, "NO! I won't go!" But it's HARD. 🤣

Just when I was thinking “what awesome book video series will Bea come up with next” you come back with Friday books hauls! Pure Bea fabulousness!! Loving this idea! I’ve been picking up original Lisa Kleypas books because I want to read all her books without revisions/being rewritten.
Oh Paige, you are just the sweetest! How are you feeling? Better, I hope!! I too want to read all of Lisa Kleypas' originals. I need more hours in the day! 🤣
I am with you on that! I wish I had more hours in the day too so I can read more. 😊I’m feeling a little bit better every day. You’re so sweet for asking. I hope you have a wonderful weekend and get some good reading in!
This is an amazing idea Bea. Can't wait to watch these every Friday ❤ Leather wrist cuffs have a rich history that dates back to ancient civilizations. They were initially worn for functional purposes, such as protecting the wrists during battles or handling heavy work. Over time, they evolved into a fashionable accessory that symbolized status and style.
Thanks for the recommendation of Lauren Smith's books. I haven't read a good pirate book in years. Now nowadays most romance books are set in England. ❤😊
Love of My After Life is super cute! Emily Bleeker is a great author. I recently read her book, Whe We Were Enemies which is a dual time line that takes place in present day and WW2. It was very good!
Love this new series! The Heiress cover looks gorgeous and gave me old school fantasy vibes. I have and have read the original Someone to Watch Over Me (at least I think it's the original). I really liked it, but I hate how Lis Kleypas is changing everything.
Nice compilation of books. I have the Love of My Afterlife, which I picked up via Book of the Month and Someone to Watch Over Me. I have no idea why Kleypas rewrote it. I have the 1999 version. When I get around to reading it, maybe I'll figure that out!
Oh how cool! I need to read all of the Kleypas originals/re-writes. It'll be interesting for sure! Looking forward to reading The Love of my Afterlife!
Hello. So I used to hate historical romances back when I was a kid, but now that I'm grown up, I'm actually starting to love them (Thanks to Bridgerton). I feel like I'm so late on collecting this type of books. May I ask what is your favorite/recommend author and books with stepback? I love the art styles so much they're very pretty. I tried to do my research and found out that there are so many authors from 50s to present and I feel overwhelmed so I don't really know where to start, but I heard a lot of good things about Lisa Kleypas and Johanna Lindsey. Thanks for the response. Love your videos btw.❤
Oh how exciting! I love that you're just beginning your journey!!! There's so much to say! My favorite authors are Tessa Dare and Lisa Kleypas. What are you looking for in terms of spice level? Do you prefer some humor? Are there particular tropes that you gravitate towards (such as "sweet heroes" or "forbidden romance")? I'd love to give you some tailor-made recs!! 🥳
@@mamaneedstoreadromance Thanks for the response. ❤💛💚 Tbh, anything will do since I'm just a beginner but I kinda like the enemies to lovers type stories because of The Viscount Who Loved Me and also fairytale-like stories. After I read the entire Bridgerton series including the prequel, I started to read the Wallflower series. I'm currently into Devil in Winter and so far I'm loving it 💖 I guess I prefer books that are written from 90s to early 2000s.😅
@@Magmeow05 Oh awesome! We're actually doing a Wallflowers readalong right now! On Sunday, September 22nd, Ava over at Avas Romance Books will be hosting our book club on It Happened One Autumn, if you want to join! We'll be going through 2025, reading Kleypas' Hathaways and Ravenels, which are spin-off series of the Wallflowers. I'm reading an enemies to lovers right now that comes out September 12th by Tracy Sumner, and it's so good! It's called Three Sins and a Scoundrel. My first Sumner, and I think I need to read the whole series!! I highly recommend Never Blow a Kiss, by Lindsay Lovise, which has book two of her series coming out in February. And one of my FAVS is Elizabeth Hoyt's Scandalous Desires, Maiden Lane book 3 (book 1 is not that great, book 2 is also good!). Tempting the Soundrel by Katrina Kendrick was another five star for me! I also recently loved Taken by His Sword, by Florence A. Bliss!
