    Greg the table looks perfect I am starting mine this week. I have a question about the epoxy polishing. I tried to do this on a clear epoxy flood coat and could never get it glass clear even going up to 10000 grit wet sanding and polishing. Are there any recommendations for compounds I can use? Also can you see any small scratches in the colored epoxy you poured? I find this to be the hardest part to complete. I also noticed you went around the epoxy with the Rubio coat, any reason? I have seen everyone else go over the epoxy and wipe it off, I am assuming since the epoxy is not porous it will not absorb so it is just wasted material. Any help is appreciated! Keep up the great work!

      G3 cutting paste or diamond finish cutting paste same stuff you use to mop a car with keep it moving don't stay in one spot to long or it will burn once cutting phase has been done time to wax polish first with a fine grit mop sponge at low rpm then go over it with sheep wool mop at low rpm that should give the best result

    • @jonelliott4985
      @jonelliott4985 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheMoose240 you need to invest in a low rpm super mop basically looks like an angle grinder with a sponge adaptor it will have a trigger action rather than on off and you can adjust the rpm with a dial on the side having the proper tools for the job at hand is just as important as the materials you use if you don't use the right tools you won't get the Finish result that you want..✌🏾

    • @elyseruben4143
      @elyseruben4143 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes there are many different epoxies for lots of different uses. Make sure you get the correct formula for what you are pouring. Epoxy is not cheap and you don't want to pour a project and find out it's not going to hold up for a long time. Call the manufacturer if you need help.

    Has anyone ever thought of trying this technique, but as a door? I think it would make an amazingly unique and gorgeous front door.

    beautiful work, man. I got a question. how does it become strong if just the edges of the wood bonds with the epoxy? do you use some kind of reinforcements at the bottom?

    • @diywithgreg

      Yes thats correct, we have support beams underneath the table to keep it stable.

    Was going to say you don't have to polish the epoxy, but using Rubio it makes sense. You can just sand it all to 220 and use a film finish like poly/lacquer but I like Rubio better also and it won't fill in the sanding microscratches. Nice finish. You can go over the Rubio with a fine scotch pad and do a second coat for higher sheen and also the renewing oil will add sheen beyond that if you wanted more sheen on the wood.

    Does the epoxy keep the teak heavy slabs together or do you need to join or support it?

      The epoxy keeps everything together, we do however add additional supports under the table.

      The wood we only sanded to about 220. Otherwise the oil doesn’t penetrate into the wood like it should.
