    Trivia. The first hit of SAI is the cause of the knockdown. With some characters you can block the first hit up close, take the rest to recover a bit faster and punish. Denjin Hadouken is one of the few projectiles that can penetrate Urien's SAIII without having it reflected back.

    Nasty little trick with Ryu is his flip out resets. After EX Donkey Kick you can do close standing LP to flip the opponent out. From there you can dash under them, fake dash under, overhead as they land, low attack as they land, throw, medium or heavy Tatsu for a crossup, jump over for a crossup.
    In the corner if they're dizzy and you have almost full Denjin or have full Denjin, this combo makes a nasty re-dizzy and does tons of damage. J.HK, S.HP, EX Donkey Kick, step back so they're still in front, S.HP, L.Tatsu(whiffed for meter and positioning), blocked or hit S.HP, H.Shoryu, Denjin. This is one of the reasons he lost the second bar from 2nd Impact.

    • @dkblade27
      @dkblade27 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those aren't very optimal lol. Only good thing about the first is if you use SA1 with a lot of spare meter and you use cr.jab instead of st.lp.
      Denjin setup one won't work. LK tatsu pushes you too close and you won't have time to do any of that.

    • @shindukess
      @shindukess 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@dkblade27 You use it for a reset, it's very potent. The Denjin setup works. I don't know what you're doing wrong. You're suppose to be in close as they reset to force a block and build meter for the Denjin cancel.

      @@shindukess You'll get grabbed before you can DP. And even if you can DP, the risk isn't worth it. That's why its not too good of a setplay.

  • @Fly_Ry
    @Fly_Ry 6 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    Regarding the Light DP vs Medium DP discussion at around 9:03 for SA1, MP DP is technically the best in all applicable situations because HP > MP DP > SA1 does 65 mid-screen, and in the corner, a juggle with HP DP afterward does 71.
    With a LP DP before SA1, the damage drops to 63 and 69, respectively.
    (tested against another Ryu)

    • @Toomnyusernae
      @Toomnyusernae 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Q is my old main so I'm looking forward to any new information I overlooked. I use to play around with Oro a bit but never got fluid with him. Necro always interested me but I've played with so little actual people the cpu discourages exploring with Necro. Twelve interested me as well until I checked out what cancels off his normal. Then I realized he fought with jabs and throws and instant air dashes. To have any hope with Twelve I think you need to master invisibility against a human opponent.

      Yeah. It's deceptive because he does pretty well against the top tiers, and he doesn't really cream the bottom tiers. He's fairly well balanced, especially compared to most of the other characters in this game.

    • @Neogears1312
      @Neogears1312 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@ghost_ib9928 it’s more ryu just is a great bit worse. Ken is just completely faster on his moves and even just general movement and gets meterless combos comparable to Ryu’s meter combos, and he has a super you pick for free where ryu has to choose offensive pressure with denjin or being generally better with shinku. Like not to sell ryu short at all by saying he’s not that impressive outside of how great he is at spending meter as I don’t think a single option he has is anything short of really good, but it’s more Ryu still isn’t that great is a sign of just how incredibly good Ken is. Ryu is super average by third strike standards and ken basically shares most of his options but he’s got way better versions. It’s not quite human smoke vs scorpion or Marth vs Roy because ryu definitely brings some great unique options to the table. But outside of that even akuma is marginally better at doing the same things even ignoring the air game and boosted damage per hit by comparison.

    These make me feel so inadequate lol. I'm fairly new to Third Strike (not really, but I've only played Ryu/Ken accross all SF games, casually, all my life). This is the first time I'm getting serious with it.
    The Crouch+Fierce into shoryuken "in case the airborne opponent parries" has me going crazy. Are you supposed to guess if the opponent is going to parry, or is this on reaction? I can barely get shoryukens out while getting up from falling and having a long time for the input, much less do it on reaction like that.
    Also, I didn't know you could EX the donkey kick. How awesome is that?

    • @jaykelley103
      @jaykelley103 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's definitely not a reaction but an intuitive guess(regarding the cr hp xx shoryuken anti air thing). Anti air situations are quite volatile in third strike compared to other games because of the existence of the parry. They could parry, you could parry, both could and nothing would happen until they landed, etc. Just gotta feel out your opponent. Cr. Hp into shoryuken is great if your opponent jumps then parries too much, terrible otherwise. Theres a lot of plays in 3s that are like that: an idea that is bad until it isnt and wins you the game. That's a huge part of the reason people will still be playing 3s until the sun burns out lol. The nearly infinite number of interactions that can happen. All because of the way parry works

      I have never seen this confirm used in a real match, probably not worth it considering EX.Hadouken and EX.Tatsumaki are pretty safe and the cost of missing the H.SRK is huge, but here they are anyway
      You have to be point blank for these to work at all
      -On Urien, H.SRK works very well after c.lk>c.lk, EX.SRK hits only once so no reason to use it
      -On Hugo, you have to use c.lk>c.lp to land a H.SRK, EX.SRK works with the regular hit-confirm
      -On dudley its very inconsistent, seems to be corner only, EX.SRK works every time
      -Remy EX.SRK only
      -Oro EX.SRK only
      -Alex EX.SRK only
      -Twelve EX.SRK only
      -On Q you have to use c.lk>c.lp instead or else EX.SRK will hit only once, H.SRK sometimes works in the corner
      -Elena is same as Q EXCEPT you in the corner you can land H.SRK a bit more consistently, still wouldn't recommend it
      -Makoto c.lk>c.lp EX.SRK only
      -Chun-li same as Makoto
      -Necro same as Makoto except completely inconsistent, basically doesnt work
      -Doesnt work on shotos at all

      Whatever you play on is strictly a matter of preference. There are great pad 3s players. The execution is stricter in this game as compared to say US4 of SF5, that's the main thing to remember. You have to retrain yourself if you started with one of those games. Not as many execution shortcuts. So althought you were getting a DP in US4, it may not come out in this game because you aren't hitting the motion completely correctly. Just keep practicing and playing and you'll get better. Get 30th Anniversary and play online or if you don't mind dealing with the occassional toxic asshole, jump on Fightcade and play. Good luck!

      Little things are shared between all three but as for most of the combos, yes but they're not optimal, and for all the super combos, No. I already did a video for Ken though: th-cam.com/video/va8fK7GQdew/w-d-xo.html

    It's hard to play this game with gamepad controller. This game doesn't support input shorcuts, ex(special) dual buttons isn't very responsive and it's doesn't support L1 and L2 as alternatif pp or kk. 😡

      I said you can't buffer supers during freeze but tbh i don't know if you can or not. I only know you can't buffer parry during freeze, so I assumed the game just locked your inputs during super freeze. I'll do some testing when I get home

    • @MGSBigBoss77
      @MGSBigBoss77 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair enough, but lets all remember since the days of SF2 most Capcom games including 3rd Strike, all have "negative edge". It maybe considered a cheat or a type of glitch that allows for a semi bufferring during the freeze of the Supers. Or can be interpreted as a; "Rock, Paper Scissors" scenario of coming out with the right move that beats out other variations of Supers at the right moment in a mere split second, i.e. Super grabs beating out Akuma's Raging Demon etc's. Or certain hit boxes over-riding others due to range and properties that they have naturally over other Super Arts and their properties/capabilities etc's (shrugs).

      @MGSBigBoss77 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah only a mere nano-second delay i reckon, lets not exaggerate here. But yes i am fully agreed with you on the whole 720 thing. Saw several Hugo players in my old arcade struggle with the buffering of the 720 motion without jumping during a match. I think "negative edge" has something to do with it, otherwise performing the super naturally wouldn't allow for the move to surprisingly come out as it did.

    So what does Ryu even do in this game? The Fireball DP trap is ruined thanks to parry so what his gameplan?

    • @Bafael
      @Bafael 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm curious as to why you think that one thing was Ryu's whole gameplan but Ryu is mostly characterized by high damage output thanks to EX donkey kick, and his incredibly good dash speed. He has very well rounded normals which let him play neutral well against almost every character and he's got three pretty unique supers which are all quite viable, particularly Denjin which creates a mixup no other character can do.

    I get the feeling as if this guy doesn't know quick rise exists. So much detail about "50/50" Denjin setups yet not one mention of quick rise that is the most fundamental escape and Denjin knockdown mixup, which is bad for Ryu. Succesful Denjin use requires a hyper aggressive Ryu playstyle, not beginner friendly at all, SA1 is generally reccomended for beginners, I think a lot of useful information about Ryu was not touched on in this video.

    • @Bafael
      @Bafael 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Everything I talked about assumes the player is always quickrising, since there's almost no reason not to in SF3. I specifically mention the corner being important for getting meaties, and that blockstrings or close range fireballs into denjin can be strong. You can see I manually delay my meaty denjin stuff but I could be doing it sooner against quickrise and even if I do it early and they don't quickrise I can just delay denjin release on reaction and still get a 50/50. Watch almost any high level footage of Ryu. It doesn't take hyper aggression but most characters should play aggressive in SF3 since zoning isn't really a thing. All denjin needs is a knockdown, and it has by far the easiest "combos" (actually sequences) of the three supers to execute.

    As a complete newcomer to Street Fighter, (I used to play in the arcade in the early ‘90’s and it was the first game I ever bought with my saved pocket money, but I was only around 10 or 11 years old) this tutorial doesn’t really help me. You’re not explaining the buttons or when you’re inputting them etc. I know none of the lingo or anything, so I’m slightly lost lol. Even though this tutorial isn’t going to help me just yet, good job m8. I’ll probably come back when I’m a bit more advanced 👍🏻👍🏻.
