"" They somehow thought they would be welcomed "". Thy were but not in the way they thought , instead of flowers they got tanks and artillery as a greeting .
I was there for the first three weeks and the battles were intense with the Ukrainian army holding and driving the Russians back . That was in the north , the Saltivka area where there is a road that comes direct from Russia and meets the ring road.
I am a Brit , came here to make Ukraine my home . I have heard nothing but praise for the stance the U.K has taken , everyone shakes your hand and says thank you to Britain

A lot, if not most people in Ireland speak English. But they do not wish to be English. Just because a larger neighbour force you to speak their language.
When Russia eventually leave, the people will remember this invasion and with time will forgive (but not forget). But relationships will be mended after a lot of time, like UK and Éire.

Despite having served as a war correspondent for years each conflict is different and I greatly admire your strength and determination to get information out of Kharkiv and destroy the Russian narrative of non-aggression against civilians which some countries still believe. I recently called out an individual or a bot on another site that claimed that Russian troops were losing because they have not fought offensive wars only defensive ones in contrast to the US's aggression. My response was direct and I listed all the countries that Russia has invaded and ended with their aid to Assad in Syria where the Russians in concert with Assad's military used chemical weapons with impunity against unarmed civilians.

I Just looking around and seeing the devastation worms you down. War is not the solution to any problem. It is unbelievable what Russia has done in Ukraine. I thank all the world countries who is standing up for Ukraine. With God help Ukraine will come out victorious. Slava Ukraine.

I can assure you that He exists. I and millions of born again Christians experience His indwelling and transformative presence daily. He has given us dominion of the earth. So don’t go blaming Him for the evil perpetrated by mankind. I know that He is intervening miraculously in this evil invasion by Putin in answer to the prayers if His redeemed. It is probably not wise to mock God, because every knee will bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God.

While Kharkiv is majority Russian speaking, the ethnicity of Kharkiv is 2/3 ethinic Ukrainians, 1/3 ethnic Russians. There is a reason the original war boundary of the Donbass was where it was. Outside of the rebel area ethnic Russians rapidly becomes a smaller and smaller percentage of the population.

Belgorod is also Russian and inside Russia... but if the Russian army turned up outside Belgorod and started shelling them I'd be fairly sure the inhabitants would not be best of friends with them just because they are Russian. Also Russia doesn't have 9 months of money to fight this war... let alone 9 years. I'd doubt they have 9 weeks left at the current attrition on their economy. Unlike the US or EU Russia is a little tight for money these days.

Russia may be a huge country, but it’s economy is that of a minor European country. Add the sanctions, their inability to manufacture anything without sanctioned parts and it is hard to see how Russia could sustain a war lasting years or even many months. Russia’s strategy is to stand off and flatten everything indiscriminately with artillery, but hopefully that will be countered soon by the next wave of aid, can’t help feeling like Ukrainians that it could happen faster.

May God's plan and purposes for Ukraine 🇺🇦 be fulfilled and may the truth of what Putin has done be be known by the people of Russia 🇷🇺 and may the mothers of Russian soldiers find out exactly what they have done.

I wonder if a "Zama" approach to this war would work, find a group of people within Russia's borders who want to assert their independence from Russia and clandestinely supply them with weapons. This would take the war to Russia and maybe make it clear to the Russian people what a useless government they have. Of course, this would probably be a big mistake and would "heat up " the conflict much more.
