Why you should never buy furniture from Bassett Furniture review

  • After a long process that eventually ended up in court, we finally got Bassett to take our couch back and they agreed to give us roughly 90% of our post tax money back. Bassett is not interested in selling a quality product or standing behind the quality guarantee they preach in the store before you buy. They were not at all surprised or even that upset when we started informing them the couch was falling apart and was made incorrectly. They just felt it was perfectly acceptable to keep repairing it until the warranty runs out. We have had many couches from Jaromes, Mor furniture etc and they never fell apart and were made very well. This couch was normally priced at $4200 and that's the base price. Higher quality fabric and cusion density raises the price at lease a grand.
Please do some research and you'll see other reviews on consumer report sites that mirror our experience.

Long time Basset customer, would recommend them over higher priced brands as I feel like they are the sweet spot for quality and price. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with them. My wife and I have a design consultant we work with everytime which really helps to create a consistent experience. Man it is so weird how experience can be so inconsistent from one client to another.

these companies USE to put out good products at one time. they earned their good reputations because they made good products. people trust the name and buy based on that reputation. BUT, like every good capitalistic company, they got greedy. they cut corners and people are paying more just for the name. the product is scaled down to cheap material and webbing or sinuose springs for support. i should know i have been looking to buy a sofa but have not found one. i searched and searched in my area and online. i will pay more for a great well made comfortable sofa. i will not pay more for a cheaply made name brand that is basically made the same as a no-name. you have got to do your research. A sofa is an expensive purchase - I want it to be around for a while. With a little research, i want to make sure i won’t be spending a lot of money on something that will fall apart quickly. sadly, in todays market, that is pretty hard to do

Seems like maybe they've gone downhill? We got a chair-and-a-half and a couch from them in 2009, absolutely the most comfortable furniture I've ever experienced, and the cushions are still like new (covers have taken a beating from pets/kid). Couch frame was destroyed in a move, so we ordered another based upon or previous experience. New one isn't half as comfortable, doesn't seem to be built with nearly the same attention to detail, and isn't holding up nearly as well. Probably won't be considering more Bassett furniture in the future. Sad.

Thanks for your review. I recently purchased 8000 worth of new furniture. The bulk of the 8000 was from the tempur pedic breeze lux mattress 4,499 and the adjustable frame was free as a 4th July special worth 899. I wanted the Bassett sofa but after thinking hard about the price, it was 1100 more even with the sale, so I went with England furniture for my sofa. I will say the sales lady went on and on about how wonderful Bassett is. My old sofa was Broyhill and lasted 22 years. So I can not say anything bad about Broyhill. I hope I made the right choice going with England. I also got a Franklin reclining chair, Ashley table set, and 2 lamps. Oh and a tempur cloud pillow along with mattress protector.

We have also had issues with Bassett. The fabric on our new sectional (delivered 2022) needs to be constantly shaved. Long broken filaments/fibers all over the sofa - looks like fake fur in places (I have photos). They replaced the cushions. The new ones are doing exactly the same thing. I don’t know what has happened to this company. We will never buy another Basset product. We are out of pocket almost $4,000.

    HI Nils,
My husband and I visited the Bassett Furniture store in The Rim, in SAn Antonio, TX. We loved the staging and the designer look of it all, but hey, $12k for certain sofas is certainly out of of our budget. I am very sorry you had such a poor experience with Bassett, looking at the money you paid for what you thought was a fine piece of furniture.
Anyway, I wanted to compliment you on your taste on furniture style and colors, and I want to ask you where in the world you found that GORGEOUS MODERN area rug. Would you mind sharing? I have been looking for something that graphic for a long time, to no avail. Thank you again for sharing your experience, I am glad that Bassett has priced us out of their products. However, we tend to visits high end stores to get inspiration for decor and style.
    Thank you!

I wish I had seen this before I went down the Bassett black hole! $8500 and only got cushion replacements. While I have not experienced any tears (yet) I am totally disgusted with how it looks. Gaps and wrinkled fronts on the
cushions. One cushion insert had two pieces of foam placed next to each other. Two days in and you could see the divot. Total disappointment and no solution from store or manufacturer. I guess I should have taken them to court. Stay away from Bassett.

This was great American made furniture in the 90s, but their cost cutting measures in the past couple decades means Bassett today is hardly a shadow of who they used to be. The swapped quality control for marketing. They were all over HGTV thanks to the MBAs running their marketing department. Sad.

Even worse than the quality of the couch was their obviously lack of caring. It was so apparent they just didn't care. You could tell they had policy in place for situations like mine and they use them often. I'm not the guy who complains usually, and always give people the benefit of the doubt but this was too much. Incase anyone wonders, this was the first and only time I've ever been in court for anything, so this isn't a pattern for us. Hopefully you find this info useful. We bought a replacement couch from Macy's for half the price and it's been perfect.

I'm having a difficult time choosing between an anthropology sofa and a basset/benchmade grand sofa. I have to have deep seat cushions, like the one in this video, and down filling is an absolute necessity for me. Imo, down certainly makes for the most comfortable sofa cushions, although they have a tendency to sag overtime.

I was actually about to buy Basset Grand Sofa, I went to the store twice to look at it. The sofa seemed really comfortable but at the price tag of $3600 I realized that the frame of the sofa is made from 5 or 6 pieces of plywood glued together, that is ridiculous! Close to the $4000 price range, i expect the frame of the sofa to be made out of hardwood. Also watching this review and going online and reading other reviews made me realize that a lot of things seemed to be going wrong with Basset products and the company seemed not to be standing behind their product and taking care of the clients. I cannot put my $3600 in jeopardy so I decided against buying a basset sofa

  • @mariafrank7130

Wish I'd seen this sooner. I bought a recliner, went with a designer to help me choose a quality fabric. Within a year I started noticing that the foot rest seemed to be "pilling" but I had just broken my leg, was bedridden and was not in any shape to contact them. Honestly, also I had no idea that their "fabric warranty" was one year. Ok I thought, I also bought an extended warranty so I sent in a warranty claim and it's been denied. I been buying furniture since I was 20 years old and I'm now 65. I've NEVER had a fabric perform so poorly. It is doing it all over the chair and I think the fabric was defective and it has been discontinued. They have offered me nothing and I will consider filing in small claims court to see if I can get them to refund my money. I would say NEVER buy from them and I would also pay more attention to the warranty on the fabric or leather.

Well let me just tell you something that is horribly and I can relate to your frustration I have a similar experience with Lazy Boy. Lazy Boy is another worthless company that I will never recommend to anybody whatsoever I have a chair from lazy boy . Lazy boy claims that they have a lifetime warranty on their spring and mechanisms in their rocker recliners. That is not the case they will sucker you into buying their products and blow smoke up your Wazoo until the cows come home. But when it comes time for them to back up with what they tell you about their product they will not do it either a spring broke and the back parts of the upper part of the chair and it literally ripped the fabric in the back part of the upper part of the chair. I contacted Lazy Boy they told me that they were not able to fix it because the Springs are not guaranteed for life and I said well you're nothing but a bunch of damn Liars I said in your advertisements and I said in your paperwork I said it clearly states that the spring mechanisms are covered for life I said is this not a spring that's in the back part of the upper chair and the representative that came out he told me yes it is and I said well then it needs to be covered and it needs to be fixed and the fabric needs to be replaced. I was told that the fabric was no longer manufactured and then they can replace it with a different color fabric but it wouldn't match the rest of the fabric and I told him I said why and God's green earth what I want two different styles of fabric on one chair. So I suggested that I wanted to be compensated and that I was willing to buy another chair from them and they were going to give me 70% off of another chair and then I could use that on sales and other promotions as well well when I went to the local shop Lazy Boy store to pick out a new chair I was told that the 70% would not be in conjunction with either sale items or markdown items or anything of that nature. I will no longer buy lazy boy lazy boy is nothing but a worthless company I honestly don't think there's any type of company out there anymore that stands behind any of their products same thing with Chevy Automotive dealership I'm having a problem with them as well I don't recommend buying a Chevy product come to find out I was told that my car was made here in the United States from the dealership and it's not it was made over in Korea. My condenser and the air conditioning system started leaking and come to find out the Equinox which is based on the same line as the Chevy tracks also had problems with their condensers so I have reached out to the Chevy Corporation to ask for partial reimbursement for the amount of money that I had to spend out of my pocket to get my vehicle fixed they told me that they were not going to reimburse me because I did not go to the dealership to have it fixed. Like I told him I said you can't go to a dealership that will not bother to call you back and I said I called seven times to this dealership and I said I also called other dealerships and no one could tell me first of all things was under warranty so on and so on so my point is unfortunately that none of these companies nowadays give a rats ass about their customers. It's buyer beware. And I suggest everybody looks around and if it's made in China pass it up let's no longer support Chinese exports.
